PLM and Blake did an amazing job on completely reimagining our front and backyard. We had just completely remodeled our home and wanted the landscaping to match the more modern look of the house. The extensive work included virtually everything you could do in a yard including, re-doing the irrigation to match the new layout of the yard, installing artistic steel planters, new modern concrete pad walkways, Travertine tile patio, a new drainage system, new plantings in the beds and new grass. Their work was incredible! Working from home I was able to watch much of the work being done and was really impressed with the attention to details. We have received many compliments and we often see cars slow down as they pass the house to admire their work. They are very busy but it was well worth the wait if you want a high quality job!

In summary, I could not recommend Blake or his company PLM. We paid for an initial design with another full-service landscaper which cost $375 to complete with an estimate of $21,830 to install. We felt it was somewhat high and some of the content could be more to our liking. We found PLM in the Plano Best Companies publication and sent them our original design. Blake came out and quite frankly said he would cost more. We discussed whether it would even be worth going forward then. In the end he said he was raising his design fee, but he would do ours at the old rate of $300. Two weeks later he delivered an overpriced and over designed landscape proposal with an estimate of $39,856 to install.

We then took both designs and created an edited one taking scope out to somehow get an estimate that was closer to value for money and in line with our Shoal Creek neighborhood. In the end, we concluded PLM is just over-priced for their services and it would be more effective to work with the original landscaper with our new revised design. I communicated that to Blake, he wished us well and sent me a bill for another $300. We disagree on whether he mentioned his design fee was $300 or $600, but in the end, I get an unusable/unedited design for $600. Point one, get it in writing with him especially if you don't go with his company.

Really…$600 for a design. You are better off working with an independent designer to get to your answer. It will cost you $250-$375 to complete with no miscommunications. Then have 2-3 landscapers bid it and include PLM if you wish. My advice…. waste of time as they’ll be the highest of your bidders.

On the positive side, Blake knows his stuff. To be clear though he will deliver a design that he wants to install not necessarily the one that you want or willing to pay for.

We hired PLM for work to be done on our front yard. It took a month to get someone to come out and see us, which we were fine with. Our thought was - If they are good, they will be in demand. Blake Melby came out to our place and spent half an hour talking with us on what we were looking for. He seemed quite knowledgeable and confident in his company’s abilities – he gave us a ball park estimate of $7,000 to $10,000 for our job. When we set up our appointment initially, we were told that our type of job wouldn’t require a design as it was relatively small, however, Blake suggested that we do the design (and that it would cost us $300 to begin and $300 once they delivered the design, with any number of iterations to make us satisfied). This amount would then be put toward our installation if we decide to move forward.

We requested 3 quotes based on budget – cheap, mid-range and splurge. Within two weeks we received only one design which was way overpriced ($20,000) and was asked to pay the remaining $300. The design that was provided was definitely not worth $600 to me as a paying customer as it did little to modify the footprint that was on our yard and even lacked measurements that may have provided some value. When we asked for actual measurements for each section (in an effort to reduce cost), we were asked to use the scale on the design! Post payment of our $600 it has been a nightmare to get responses for any changes/information we are requesting to the design in an effort to get costs down to something manageable. It honestly seems like the business model for PLM is the $600 design fee and they have no interest in actually helping customers fix their yards. Based on my experience thus far, I’m really not inclined to give any further business to PLM Landscaping.

I am super pleased with PLM, they replaced some grass, redid a portion of my front landscape and put down granite rock on the side of my house where grass wasn’t able to grow. I worked with Blake who was courteous, smart, made wise recommendations and instructed the crew well. I have more projects and will call Blake and PLM again next year (spring 2024).

Jon Melby came to my home and gave me an exorbitant quote about two tree removals and 100 sq yards sod installing in my front yard. Two weeks later he did not deliver the contract,. When the contract finally comes is missing one tree and includes a regrading I did not ask for and never discussed about, but it was on my next door neighbor's contract since they had a drainage problem. When I asked to remove the regrading Ann called me and canceled my contract. Move on to better contractors.

The work that the PLM team performed at my house was exceptional. Each member of the crew was diligent, staying busy the whole time, and ensuring that every task was completed to perfection. The gardens were beautifully landscaped and the shrubs and trees pruned with great care. I highly recommend PLM and will definitely engage their services for my landscaping needs in the future.

TITLE: AN OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE: PLM, INC., LANDSCAPING
    The Abstract:
My wife and I had our yard completely landscaped, a patio and privacy fence built, and a sprinkler/soaker system installed. PLM, INC. did the work and the results are outstanding.
    The Process:
The PLM, INC. team did the work over the course of slightly more than a week. They dug drains for the rain gutter system downspouts that drain into the alley that runs behind the house, built a ~ 700 ft2 patio, built an eight (8) foot board-on-board privacy fence with two (2) gates, build flagstone pathways on both sides of the house where the sun rarely if ever shines, removed a dying tree (griding the stump), planted a large variety of plants in the beds they built in both the front and back yards, planted an oak tree in the front yard with a bed around it, lined the beds with stone, trimmed a large oak tree in the back yard, and installed a very comprehensive sprinkler/soaker system. After planting the beds, they covered the beds with mulch and finally sodded the yard.
As noted above the process took slightly longer than a week. During this process, PLM, INC. personnel were very careful to cover, wrap and protect our outdoor furniture and all the exposed portions of the house.
    The Results:
The final results are truly OUTSTANDING. Those familiar with the Kano Quality Model will understand the descriptor of final outcome as a ‘DELIGHTER.’ We were gratified at how it came together, and how quickly, and how it was done in spite of conditions of less-than-optimal temperature and weather.
Two (2) aspects of this renovation that bear special mention:
    1. The professionalism of the work was outstanding. I was impressed by the diligence of all the crew members; they went to work and worked diligently each day. In addition, they cleaned up the job site at the end of each day, so that there were no messes for our neighbors to deal with.
    2. It rapidly became apparent that all of the PLM, INC., crew members respected our home and our property; we found that the electrical outlets on the outside of the house were quick to fault, so the power tools necessary to cut stone, wood and pipe were attached to extension cords connected to outlets in our garage. Nothing went missing; indeed, the crew would not enter the garage to unplug at the end of each day’s work without notifying us. We quickly concluded [QUICKLY DEMONSTRATED TO BE CORRECT] that we could leave the garage open completely without concern.
    We recommend PLM unconditionally.

The service we received from PLM, their employees, and their subcontractors was superior. In all our years of home ownership, we have not had a better experience. Calls were promptly and courteously returned as were emails. Blake really knows what he is doing, how to manage a project on this scale, how to manage his workers, and has made connections with some highly skilled craftsmen. If we ever have another landscaping need, there is no question that we would use PLM again.

The landscaping we had PLM do was extensive—essentially remove all trees (except two), shrubs, and grass, and start afresh. All new sod, soaker hoses, flowers, shrubs, and two trees.

Before we signed off, we met with Blake Melby (Summer 2024) to discuss, in general, what we wanted. He offered some sage advice, and a month later he returned with an 11”x17” full-color proposal for our yards that was nothing short of amazing. There was still room for options, but in the meantime he and his crew began the ‘cleanup’: digging up our trashy yard (including stump grinding) and amending the soil. While the raised planter beds were being dug and built as dry stack flagstone walls, we looked at potential surfaces for our new patio. Blake sent us to a showroom/warehouse full of porcelain, travertine, and pavers of various designs where we found something we thought would look nice. Once the patio and beds were in place, they installed the sod, flowers, shrubs and two trees. By the beginning of November, all was done and held the promise of an edenic garden come next Spring.

After a moderately harsh Winter, we waited to see if the plants were just dormant or dead. Everything came to life in March, and it was glorious! Our Zoysia lawn is a luscious emerald color, thick and rich, the layout of our new trees and shrubs is gorgeous, and the artistry of the raised beds and patio is stunning. Before PLM, we could hardly bear to go out in the yard; now, thanks to all the work PLM did, we are out every day, relishing our yard’s beauty from our new patio.

I am absolutely blown away by the travertine patio PLM built. Its craftsmanship is a work of art, fashioned in the smallest detail by highly skilled tradesmen. When I walk across it, I feel like I’m treading the floor of some ancient temple.

If I had any minor quibble, it would be that PLM is in such demand that, after we agreed to move forward, they couldn’t get started for nearly two months. But that seems inconsequential now that they finished and every plant is thriving.

Thank you, Blake, and thank your people for us!
