Do not settle with the estimate, get a second opinion!

Alejandro provided an 85-year-old woman with an estimate for work she did not need. She gave him a $2,500 deposit for the work, because this was what he stated was due to get the ball rolling. She asked for a copy of the estimate, and he told her he was not able to provide her with a copy.

I know many businesses take advantage of senior citizens and contacted him because the repairs for a space less than three hundred square feet should not have warranted an exuberant amount of repairs. I asked for a copy of the estimate; he emailed it to me. When I questioned him, he confirmed my suspicions and stated it was quoted as if her home were a $20K-$30K project and would discuss with his manager to reduce (her damage was $3K).

We scheduled a follow-up appointment with him for Wednesday, September 24. I arrived at 3:45 p.m. We waited until 4:23 p.m., called him and he said he was not coming because his manager did not want to redo the estimate. She asked about her check, he said he was going to shred.

Super unprofessional!
If we had not called, we would not have known he was not coming!
Why wouldn't a 'reputable' company want to stand by their estimate?
Why would Alejandro confirm our suspicions (inflated pricing) and not fight for HIS integrity and company/employer?
How many other customers have received INFLATED estimates and paid the invoice because of the company's reputation?

I concluded the call by telling him I was going to submit a review of the service we received and name him, his response "that's fine".

Dealing with ServPro, BEWARE!
