Plumbing reviews in Garland, Texas

Tony Hickman repaired our gas leak on December 1st. Our problem had been discovered a week earlier during routine annual maintenance of our furnace. We initially had another plumber (a large operation in Rockwall that sounds like food and claims everyone loves them) who began the repair, but what started as a one-leak repair turned into two, then three. Each leak was running up the cost, and at that point I put a halt to the work until I could talk to my insurance company and get some other estimates. After finally taking some time to examine the rest of the pipes (they ended up being at our house for about 13 hours), that first plumber claimed we had 8 additional leaks that needed repair, quoted us a 5-digit amount for the repair, but couldn't guarantee that more wouldn't be needed. They recommended a total replacement of our pipes at a cost of $29,000!
We reached out to Tony at the recommendation of a longtime friend and neighbor. He came out the day after I dismissed the first plumber and gave us a much more reasonable estimate. He found 5 more leaks (not 8.) Tony was a godsend. He worked very efficiently and charged us about a third of what the first company wanted for the 8-leak repair. The system passed the city's inspection, and we were able to get our gas back on. I found Tony Hickman to be honest, fair in his pricing, and friendly. We have decided to make him our go-to for future plumbing needs. Thank you, Tony! -
Tony and Juan are the best plumbers in town!! Not only are they very knowledgeable in what they do, their personality and client interaction is superb. They strive to make sure their work is done perfectly, review the work until it gets to be as good as new. They are not in a hurry to just do a moderate work and leave; they take the time to provide outstanding service. I only have one plumber in my contact list and that is Tony Hickman's phone number!!

Like always, stuff goes out when you least expect it, like our old gas water heater. Hickman Plumbing Services was recommended by a friend. Tony came out on a Sunday, and installed our new gas water heater. What a life saver! Tony was very professional, and did an outstanding job! If your looking for a company to do a profession job, I highly recommend Hickman Plumbing Services.

Kitchen drain backup. Could not clear from kitchen drain. Cleared from roof vent. Filled sink and checked the drain several times. Even took the extra step to check that the washer drained properly since the drains tie together.
-
Repaired a pipe section that corroded, which is hooked up to a gas line for our gas grill.
I always use speaks plumbing. They're honest, efficient, and reasonably priced. They guarantee their work and the Technicians are very professional. -

These guys really saved my bacon. I had a water leak from the main to my house that was flooding my yard. They showed up in a hurry and fixed it in about an hour. I really appreciate how fast and courteous they were. I give them 5 stars!

Speakes plumbers are always friendly, polite, do great work! They take care of the work area in or around your house and do a good job cleaning up once work is completed.
-
Terrible service. They repaired the shutoff valve and it leaked now a little over a year later. Was told that "ground and pipes shift" and it's not necessarily leaking at the site of service. I am watching the fitting leak in the exact place they serviced the pipe and still told that it is not necessarily related and won't be covered.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Randy and Jacob from Speaks Plumbing, and I couldn't be more impressed! They replaced my water heater, which was still under warranty, and went above and beyond to ensure the job was done efficiently and professionally.
What struck me most was their exceptional service, despite the challenges they faced. Removing the old water heater from the second floor and installing the new one was no easy task, but Randy and Jacob tackled it with ease. They were attentive to their surroundings, respectful of my home, and maintained their composure even in the sweltering 100+ degree attic.
Their professionalism, work ethic, and dedication to customer satisfaction are truly commendable. I feel fortunate to have had them working in my home, and I highly recommend Speaks Plumbing to anyone seeking reliable and outstanding service."

If you’re price comparing, I put our invoice into ChatGPT and asked it to evaluate the competitiveness of the service pricing in our area. Here’s what it said:
Short version: this looks pretty reasonable for your area, and actually a bit below what a lot of people end up paying for a comparable small plumbing job around Dallas.
⸻
1. What you were charged
From the invoice:
• Labor: $185.00 (listed as “1 Man Labor” – almost certainly their minimum service call / first hour)
• Parts:
• 3/4” FIP boiler drain – $25
• 3/4” x close to 3” brass nipple – $12
• Misc. supplies – $15
• Materials subtotal: $52
• Sales tax: $4.29
• Total job price: $241.29
Work description: they replaced the leaking drain port on the water heater with a brass boiler drain + nipple and checked water flow inside the house.
⸻
2. How that compares to local norms
Labor rate ($185)
Homeowner-facing plumber rates in the Dallas area typically run about $45–$200 per hour (that’s what you pay the company, not what the plumber personally takes home).
• Your $185 is near the high end, but still within that normal range for a licensed plumber from a company (especially if that includes the trip/diagnostic fee plus the first hour of work).
Parts ($52)
• A comparable 3/4” brass water-heater drain/boiler drain at Home Depot runs about $11 retail.
• A short brass nipple is usually $3–$8 retail, depending on brand and length.
• Plumbers virtually always mark up parts (often 2–3× retail) to cover sourcing, stocking, warranties, and the fact that they have the part on the truck when you need it.
So $25 + $12 + $15 for all materials and misc. supplies is pretty typical; it’s not an obvious gouge.
Total cost ($241.29)
For similar-scale jobs (hose bib / small valve replacements), national and recent 2025 data show typical all-in homeowner costs around $200–$600, with an average around $300.
• Your total of $241 sits toward the low end of that range.
⸻
3. Overall judgment
Putting it together:
• Labor: high but normal for Dallas service-call plumbing.
• Parts: reasonable, within normal markup territory.
• Total: on the low side of typical for this kind of small repair.
So I’d call this competitive/fair pricing, not a bargain-basement deal but definitely not a ripoff.
