Macaulli and his crew did a great job laying stones in my front yard. He responded quickly when I called him and came right out to give me a bid, which I felt was very reasonable. He started and completed the job when he said he would. I will definitely call Mendez Services for my future needs!

My neighbor recommended Mendes Services and I am very happy with their work. Good communication. Arrived at the time he told me and did an excellent job removing stubborn vines that were encroaching on the house. Professional and friendly - will be hiring again.

I hired Macualli based on his many positive reviews on Google and Thumbtack. He started off strong—his proposal reflected attention to detail and quality, and he was initially very responsive and pleasant to work with. Unfortunately, the final execution fell short of the expectations that were set early on.

He had to return twice to redo parts of the job. The first time was to finish a task that wasn’t completed as discussed. He did come back the next day, which I appreciated—but it should’ve been done correctly the first time. Later, I realized our existing drip irrigation line had been cut and not fully restored. When I asked him to come back and fix it, he did—but he didn’t let me know when he arrived and just texted afterward saying it was done. Unfortunately, the system still wasn’t fully functional and didn’t cover the entire area it had before. I ended up having to enlist a neighbor to help me fix it so my plants wouldn’t die.

My advice: inspect every detail of the job before making final payment. Corners were definitely cut in my case. Also, do your own research on material costs. He quoted $800/day for labor, and I paid $762 for materials—when I later looked it up, the actual retail cost of materials was closer to $175. A markup is expected, but that was excessive. I didn’t think to question it at the time because I trusted him. Lesson learned.

Macaulli is outstanding. Fast, reasonable and honest. By far the best contractors I’ve ever worked with. He even fixed a botched job by some other contractors and would have done it at no extra cost the only reason he allowed me to pay the extra is because I insisted. Phenomenal and polite crew. Cannot recommend highly enough.

If I could give zero stars, I would.

We hired Macaulli Mendez (Mendez Landscaper) for a very basic job: install brown/desert-colored road base in our backyard. We paid him a $750 deposit up front, our mistake.

He sent two workers on the day of the job (who were kind but clearly unprepared and unsupervised). The workers immediately started dumping the wrong material, grey road base instead of the brown one we specifically requested. They later told me they’d “talked to Macaulli” and offered to fix the color issue by laying sand over the road base. I said that might work. But when they came back, they brought the same grey material again, not sand and tried to pass it off as a solution. Again, I pointed this out, that is is still grey and they again apologized profusely and said they’d figure something out. And here’s the part that makes this so much worse: They trampled right over our newly planted garden beds.

We had planted young, healthy plants just days before , and the workers walked straight through them with wheelbarrows breaking stems, and killing several. No care. No apology. No repair.

But instead of fixing anything, we received an outrageous text that night from Macaulli (attached here), accusing us of changing our minds, and trying to extort us for an additional $550, claiming labor and dumping costs for material we never asked for. He completely twisted the facts , even though we were trying to be flexible the entire time.

We never demanded any changes. His own workers offered the alternatives and acknowledged the initial mistake. In fact, we told them to continue with the existing material to avoid delays. We were traveling the next day and just wanted it done.

Since then? He ghosted us.
• No returned calls.
• No returned texts.
• Never finished the job.
• Took our $750 deposit & did not respond to messages or calls

This guy has no integrity. At minimum, he owed us a phone call. Instead, he sent a passive-aggressive, inaccurate text and disappeared like a scammer.

If you’re considering hiring him: DON’T.
Do not trust the positive reviews. Do your due diligence, and under no circumstances give him a deposit upfront. He is dishonest.

If he replies to this review, expect more lies and deflections. But I have receipts, texts, and first-hand interactions to back up everything said here. He is the worst contractor we’ve ever worked with. Save yourself the frustration, look somewhere else!

Edited to add: Following my review, the contractor threatened me with legal action despite not completing the job and ghosting us after taking our deposit. I 100% stand by everything on this review and will not remove it

It was a pleasure working with Macaulli and his crew. Everyone was professional. Everyday the job was cleaned up and Macaulli would come to the site one to two times a day to make sure the job was going smoothly, and it did. The attention to detail was so nice, they didn’t cut corners and the work shows. Thanks again for a great experiences.

Macaulli was absolutely fantastic! He is always willing to go over and above and it was such a pleasure working with him. He did a great job and got a large project done in a few days. 100% recommend.

Excellent! I can’t recommend them enough. I wish I would have hired them sooner. Great attention to detail, excellent communication, showed up on time, and worked quickly. Our pathway is exactly what we wanted and we are so pleased. You won’t go wrong hiring them!

I hired Macaulli for a landscaping project that included xeriscaping with rock, mulch, and drip irrigation. While the initial results looked promising, the experience quickly deteriorated due to serious issues with the irrigation system and a complete lack of accountability.

After the project was completed and paid for, I discovered that several mature trees weren’t properly connected to the drip system, and multiple lines were blowing apart due to pressure problems. Although Macaulli initially responded, he repeatedly missed scheduled appointments and eventually showed up unannounced when I wasn't home, making it impossible to have a proper conversation. He also contradicted his own diagnosis of the problem, which made it difficult to trust his expertise.

Despite finally showing to supposedly fix the issue, the irrigation system is still not working in several areas. My follow-up text messages have gone unanswered, and I’ve been forced to hand-water the trees to keep them alive while the system remains broken. At this point, I’ve been completely ghosted—even though the work is supposed to be covered under a one-year warranty.

This experience reflects a lack of professionalism, communication, and follow-through. I do not recommend this service unless you’re prepared to be ignored after payment and left to deal with unresolved issues on your own.

Macaulli had a Great attention to detail, I stopped by every day to monitor the progress and get my input. Highly recommend.

I had a great experience working with Mendes Services from start to finish. They installed 5 trees, a number of perennial plants and associated irrigation, A LOT of dirt and rock, and an informal patio. I am a customer that is a bit particular and I ask a lot of questions. They were very responsive at every step of the process and happy to answer all of my questions. Thank you Macaulli and his crew.

Mendes Services laid down some stones for us for a little patio under a tree that wouldn’t grown any grass. It turned out nice. They were very responsive, punctual and reasonably priced.

Macaulli and the team at Mendes services were nothing short of exceptional on our medium sized landscaping project. (Planting 5-6 trees, 10-15 small shrubs, and laying 17+ tons of gravel. Not only did they give great suggestions on how to finish the project to ensure it looks great but they were super responsive to question and concerns we had. They also helped me tweak my existing drip system to ensure it functioned properly to support the plants they put in. They will be the first team I call for future landscaping/home service needs.

Great service. They came and trimmed about 20 bushes in my yard. They did an excellent job and cleaned up after they trim the bushes. I would use them again if I had similar work. Were courteous and easy to work with.

I hired Macaulli based on a friend’s recommendation—she had worked with him a few times and always spoke highly of his work. Honestly, he and his team exceeded my expectations. Macaulli came by the very next day to give us a quote, talked things through with us, and even suggested some changes to the garden project that would better fit our needs (that kind of proactiveness really makes a difference!). A few days later, he and his crew were already getting started.

I usually get a little nervous with projects that take a few days, but this one was definitely worth the wait. Everything turned out great, and the team kept up good communication throughout, explaining everything they were doing along the way. In the end, we ended up adding a few extra services to the original plan, and Macaulli was super fair—he worked with us to come up with a price that fit our budget.

hired Mendes Services to replace a patchy, dry area of my front yard with fresh sod and they absolutely nailed it! From the first visit, Macaulli explained the whole process, from soil prep to post-installation care. He gave me honest advice about the type of grass that would work best for my yard and sunlight conditions.

The team showed up on time, removed the old grass, leveled the soil, and installed the new sod with a lot of attention to detail. I also liked that they gave me clear watering instructions to help it root properly.

It’s been a few weeks and the lawn looks amazing—lush, green, and way healthier than I imagined. I’m super happy with the result and will 100% use Mendes Services again for any yard projects!
