Amazing work. Our backyard is a beautiful place to sit in the morning.

I can highly recommend Cottonwood Landscapes for both design and implementation of landscape work. They did a very large job for us, i.e. backyard pool, pool house, landscape plantings, pavers, sprinkling design and installation. Everything was well planned and timed and very little was not on schedule. Their installation and design teams were great to work with andthey made a lot of great recommendations along the way.

I've worked with these guys for years now. Dan helped us create the concept for replacing our back yard. We ended up replacing 3/4 of our yard. Nate wrangled the troops to get it done. I've had them back multiple times for various projects.

New to Utah bought new home did not know anyone, got several bids did not go with the least expense but went with Cottonwood Landscaping because of their knowledge and what we experienced the value that they gave us and they stood behind their work and products. We are very happy and would highly encourage anyone else that reads this to do the same.

A lawsuit threat after less than 30 days after service was rendered in the first email sent.

full email he sent me was:

    > We sent you a bill for work performed. You were yo pay us when you received
    > the bill. We have not received a check. We have called numerous times with
    > no call back. If we do not hear from you by the end of the week or receive a
    > check we will assume you have chosen not to pay the bill and turn it over to
    > our attorney. I hope we can speak sooner then that. Thanks,

No payment terms were discussed prior to work done, no due date or remit payment date posted on bill. was professional up front but any business that threatens to send lawyers in first contact email is disconcerting. In addition 2 days prior to receiving the email I had mailed the payment USPS.

Cottonwood Landscapes landscaped our 30 year old back and side yard and did a fantastic job. With an artistic eye, they created two retaining walls out of large boulders, rock steps, a paver and a gravel pathway, a fire pit, lighting, new sprinklers, new grass, and many plantings. Dan, Nate, and Armenio were extremely responsive and positive to deal with when issues came up. They really have the resources, expertise, and man power to get a big job done. They were on schedule and communicated all costs, which were fair. When we ran into unexpected problems - they always had solutions. They will be our go to landscaping company if we do more.

Re-landscaped the front yard of a house I own.  This was my parents old house and the yard was not in bad shape, but I wanted it to look really nice in their memory and to honor them.  My father always kept up the yard very well.  This included pavers on a front porch, some lawn, planting trees preparing beds and planting lots of perennials and sprinkler system repairs.

I was overseas when the job was done and was sent pictures when completed.  I was shocked when Isaw the pictures.  After $15000 the yard looked worse than before.  Many of the plants were in poor shape and very dried out, some dead and dying.  The trees planted were mere sticks of one-half inch diameter.  No mulch was used. When I complained about this not being included in the bid I was told it was not standard practice and I would need to shell out another $500 for mulch.  I believe this was dishonest method of creating add-on's and mulch certainly is a standard practice in any landscaping.  The plant selection and design was poor. There was no follow-up after the job was completed to ensure sprinklers were well adjusted. The company has been pretty unresponsive in the year since and many emails have been unanswered or involved repeated attempts to get a response.  The beds were not well prepared and the following spring the beds are all completely choked by weeds and lawn grass that was not thoroughly removed.

Project took 6 days longer than they estimated. I had to remind them of projects they forgot to do. Job looked great when finished but left us with some problems. Couldn't get ahold of anyone to come and fix these issues and was eventually ignored to the point of us giving up. I wouldnt recommend them because once the job is done, you are forgotten, even if you need fixes.

Friendly and quality service. They provided a full design and we picked the elements we wanted them to complete. My only tip for others is to be very precise in what portions you're asking them to execute. There were a few edgings and stones we had assumed would be included are weren't. We're very happy and would use them again.

The end result of our landscaping and retaining walls is outstanding. They are especially good at paver sones and retaining walls. It required a fair amount of calls and follow up to get plants and trees that did not make the first year, but all were replaced and now growing and looking great. I would definitely have them do more work for me and recommend to friends.

Cottonwood Landscapes did an amazing job in my yard. They take the necessary steps to do a quality job and also completing a beautiful project. I highly recommend them to anyone! I talked to several other landscapers and none of them seemed to hit the mark for what I was looking for.

Impressed. Our project turned out to be everything we wanted and more. The crews showed up every morning prior to their start time and cleaned up at the day. Not just pickup but push broom and put all their tools away. Communication was great. I would highly recommend them!

We worked with Dan at Cottonwood Landscapes starting May2015 through October2015. As the owner of Cottonwood Landscapes, Dan came up himself & did the bid. He was overly friendly during this meeting & his bid came in at the best price! Our yard was a bit tricky because the back yard is a hill that slopes in to our home, so our goal was to ensure that all moisture would drain away from our house. Dan ensured us that this would be an easy issue to tackle. We ended up paying $6,000 over what his initial bid came in at! He left permit costs out of the bid claiming he did not know permits would be necessary. Dan never did his due diligence to find out if permits were needed. So when it came to the permits it was entirely up to me to secure them. I spent over 6 hours at the city figuring out what documentation I needed & who I needed to meet with in order to secure these permits. I had to measure out the walkway entirely by myself & draw up a diagram showing the city where the walkway would be in regards to the waterline. I ended up having to go to 2 DRT meetings because during the first meeting I did not have what I needed. I am not a landscape expert so of course I wasn't aware of all the documentation required. I had to get blueprints of the walkway plan from Dan's architect to present to the city & after all that work I did by myself at the city building I ended up having to pay Dan for the work of the architect. Please keep in mind I asked the architect to meet me at the meeting and he showed up 20 minutes late & missed the whole thing, but Dan charged me for his time anyway. Dan also didn't include the cost to move dirt, which is strange since our main concern was moving dirt so that moisture would not run in to our home, he claimed we opted out of dirt removal? & when it came to our patio Dan's plans only included 2 walls instead of the 3 it needed for completion. Dan completely left out the 3rd wall so we had an entire wall of dirt falling into our patio since the paver stones were not stacked up in a wall formation as they had been on the other 2 sides. Dan also did not include the Rainbird sprinkler control dial in the bid. He included a sprinkling system yet charged us an extra $300 to put in a dial so that we could actually turn the sprinklers on. You would think the dial would be included in the sprinkler system but it isn't. He also apparently found the cheapest concrete company to work with for our front walkway. they dug the walkway out 6 inches too close to a fire hydrant, which required them to come back & do the job twice, while leaving excess dirt for us to deal with. While pouring the patio they damaged our driveway & we had to fight to get them to come back & correct the issue. They also completely over poured the walkway leaving edges that were not smooth, but instead had piles of hard cement connected to it. The concrete company also hid mounds of of extra cement underneath dirt in our front yard, which we found while shoveling ....Trying to remove the dirt that Dan didn't include in his contract. Another strange thing about working w/ Dan is every time I would write him a check i would make it out to Cottonwood Landscapes. Every time Dan would send these checks back requesting that I make them out to him personally, Dan Cloward. The only explanation I can think of for this is he was hiding income from the government or from his employees. In his contract, Dan promised that our project would be substantially completed within 2 weeks from the start date. The start date was supposed to be July 24. Dan missed the start date by a week & our project did not get finished until October. You can do the math! Dan seemed like such a nice guy when we first met him, but Dan became unresponsive after we signed w/ him. The only time he answered my calls was when I called him blocked, even though I called him unblocked seconds before. Do yourself a favor go with someone who seems a bit more expensive who will get the job done correctly and on time. It will save you time & $!

In September, 2012, Cottonwood did a major project for me by redesigning and reconstructing a portion of my back yard that involved significant tear-out of existing landscape, contour shaping and installation of designer-manufactured concrete pavers, manufactured concrete block holding wall and planting area, designer-manufactured concrete steps, rustic beam pergola and a sandstone outdoor fireplace with storage area, an ornamental fence with two security gates and new, sloping planting beds - total cost of $40,000+.
In July, 2013, Cottonwood designed a new patio, walkway and steps with appropriate landscaping for the remaining portion of my back yard. They removed the existing brick wall, steps, lawn, sprinkler connections and concrete. Prepared, graded and Installed new designer concrete pavers, high-quality pre-formed concrete steps to my deck with matching platforms, new sprinkler system for the area, installed a 68' ornamental fence with security gate. They re-designed the area with large quartzite boulders resulting in sloping planting beds. They provided all plants and new grass. This is my second project with this company – total cost of $16,000+.
In Feb. and March, 2014, Cottonwood designed and installed new front steps, paver walkways, sprinkler system and rock gardens consisting of manufactured concrete block steps, designer concrete slab pavers, iron bannisters, quartzite boulders and various plantings. Total cost $16,000+.
In September and October, 2015, Cottonwood designed, installed and stained a rough-sawn beam and post 14’x20’ carport with wood trusses, pitched roof with asphalt shingles and interior lighting. Total cost $17,000+.
In Nov. and December, 2015, Cottonwood replaced a front yard wood-rail fence. The new fence consisted of rough-sawn posts and rails in an architecturally angular design with an added, at center, heavy timber, decorative arbor with electric outlets. Total cost $5,000+
Summary: Over the last four years, Cottonwood Landscapes has completed five significant and well-designed improvements to my exterior landscape. Through each of these experiences, I found this local company very professional, extremely skilled and able to deal with all the issues and unsuspecting problems that arise with these types of projects. Their construction crews are outstanding with experienced staff and hands-on supervision. All were very efficient in time management and the crews are very responsive and extremely hard working. All five projects were started and completed on time. Also, the in-house design team was very helpful for addressing issues and landscaping alternatives. I was very impressed with how effectively each phase of the projects were organized, scheduled and staffed. I should add that projects of this size require heavy equipment which can result in significant damage to surrounding areas. Cottonwood did a masterful job in reducing collateral damage. Their cleanup at completion was excellent on each project. Management is experienced, extremely ethical, well organized and addresses customer issues with promptness, sincere concern and fairness. Their workmanship and attention to detail is outstanding.
September 2019. This is my 6th project with Cottonwood. The principals, staff , and construction crews are top rate, prompt and well managed. The project is a large designer- stone paver patio with attending layout and sprinkler routing issues. I am very satisfied with the results. In my judgement this company is the best for major landscape enhancements and quality construction.

We needed our patio extended and asked Cottonwood to bid on tearing down our existing concrete and adding the new. Unfortunately, and to no fault of Cottonwood Landscapes, we were held back a year and a half from the time that we received their bid until our HOA would approve the project. During that time, Cottonwood was instrumental in guiding us through approval with our HOA, and expertly shifted our project on their schedule to accommodate us. When we were finally approved the crew were timely and professional, careful to follow our strict noise ordinances, and finished with a beautiful patio just like we had described.
We are happy to recommend Cottonwood Landscapes as a service that offers attention to detail, professionalism, and commitment to getting the job done and done right.

We would like to express our thanks for the professional job that Cottonwood Landscapes LLC did on our backyard. It was a big project that included a rock wall at the back, the fencing let alone the beautiful design of the landscaping around the fencing. The biggest project was all the design and work that went into putting in the pool, fire pit and outdoor kitchen. We want to extend our thanks for the extra effort your company put into finishing the pool so our daughter Nannette could see it completed. It was her idea to finish the backyard and put in the pool. She died of cancer the day the pool was completed. The project was slated to be finished by September and was finished by July. Your company did not take any shortcuts in the quality of workmanship to accomplish the job. We now have a gorgeous backyard and pool. We would and have recommended your company to the people we have been in contact with.

Cottonwood did a great job with our paver and firepit installation. Very detail oriented and painstaking in their work. We are very pleased with the patio lighting scheme they designed. We have received many positive comments from friends and family and highly recommend Cottonwood Landscapes.

I hired Cottonwood Landscapes for 3 projects over 2 summers. A phenomenal job on the paver patio, the focal point of the yard. They were able to provide me with a landscaping vision that I could understand. I had bids from other companies who wanted to cut corners and use low quality materials. The plants and trees that were planted grew well. Their 6 inch steel edging is great. Drip watering in all planter beds.

Dan and his professional team have completed three separate landscaping projects in 2023. We signed our next contract for two additional projects in 2025. Dan Cloward treats us like family. He does it all from design to finished job.

Cottonwood Landscapes was fast, thorough, and had high quality work ethic. We built a new house and needed retaining walls, sprinkling system, and landscaping advice. Cottonwood was professional and knowledgeable. Several of our neighbors all needed landscaping services as well and they all decided to go the cheap route and hire low quality workers, and they all ended up paying for it. We're the only ones who haven't had to rip out horrible concrete jobs and low quality sprinkling systems. Our grass stayed green because we got awesome coverage while our neighbors all struggled with dry spots and lumpy yards. You get what you pay for, and Cottonwood delivers landscaping that looks great and functions properly. They are also quick to return calls and address questions. Highly recommend to anyone that wants the job done right the first time.
