We have worked with Surrounds for eight years and couldn't be happier with their degree of professionalism, service and results. We are always getting compliments on how beautiful and well maintained our property looks! That says it all.

We have done a large and a medium sized project together with several smaller improvements along the way. Surrounds is alway dependable and their designs are innovative. In our five years together we have not been disappointed, ever.

Surrounds has been working in our property for several years, since we hired them to design our landscape and maintain it through out the year. My wife and I are very happy with them and the service they provide.

We do not have a simple yard. Other companies have harmed our flowers, shrubs, small trees because they go too quickly and carelessly when they mow our grass. We have tried several companies to find who would be more careful. This company is COMPLETELY different. They truly care, they are friendly, and they do better job than I would ever be able to do myself.

I had the worst experience with Surrounds. I paid $4000 to get a design. They provided me with a design that was 100k over my budget . This was after they told me that they could do the job that I wanted within my budget. When I realized that they were unable to do the job within my budget, they did not offer me any of my money back for the design it was a complete rip off.

Surrounds has taken care of our property for three years. They are very responsive to any issue I've raise, helpful in selecting and planting annuals, great about fall leaf pick up. Highly recommend them.

Our relationship with Surrounds started almost 3 years ago when we first met with their landscape architect to discuss our vision for a new deck and back yard to our home. We had the same discussions with three major landscape companies in the DC area. We ultimately selected Surrounds because they had a great reputation, they spent the time to truly listen to our vision, and their designs took our vision to a level of beauty that was well beyond our expectations.
They flawlessly integrated a large (30' x 20') elevated deck with stone fireplace and detailed trim work into our home that was also undergoing renovation at the time. The deck is a focal point of the main floor of our home with access via large sliding french doors from both our kitchen and new dining room. The deck is also beautifully integrated within the hardscaping patio work also artfully designed and built by Surrounds. The most common response when someone stops into our deck is..."wow" and that is shortly followed by "oh my... that is stunning" when they look down onto our patio. Surrounds terraced our yard and built beautiful curved retaining walls of stone with an integrated outside kitchen and fire-pit. All steps leading into the flagstone patio are flanked by perfectly located boulders. The trees, perennials and annuals were carefully selected to provide a harmonious balance between plantings and hardscaping.
The backyard area was such an enormous success that we had them completely redesign the entire front of the house with more welcoming plant landscaping, stone walkways, stone boulders for terracing our existing sloped landscaping beds, a new concrete driveway bordered by pavers, etc.
Exterior lighting accentuates the beautiful plantings and stonework in both the front and the back of the house.
Our relationship is ongoing because we've hired them to maintain the beauty of our new property with weekly lawn and garden services.
In summary, the Surrounds team took our ideas and vision and created beautiful art for our outside living. My wife and I consider their team to be great partners and a team we know we can count on when an issue arises.
If you elect to use them for any of your outside landscaping or hardscaping initiatives, I'm confident you'll be thrilled with the outcome of your project and you'll say what we've been saying for the past 2 years... their service and quality truly goes above and beyond!

Highly recommend Surrounds Landscaping! Worked with Alexandra Trofimov as landscape designer and Brian Rehak as the foreman of our project. They turned my backyard with drainage issues, a crumbling old deck and hodgepodge, eyesore mulch area into a gorgeous area now ready for outdoor entertaining. Strengths include effective communication, listening to what we wanted for the backyard’s purpose, and highly professional, detail oriented work. Excellent company. I wish I could give it 10 stars.

I think that the care that Surrounds has given me and my yard this past summer far exceeds by wildest expectations. Many of my neighbors have commented that the grounds look fantastic as have friends that come to visit. The guys come promptly and take great care with the plants and lawn. The are responsive to any special need I have had. I could not be happier. Thank you for such great service.

We have very much enjoyed our partnership with Surrounds. Kohler and his crew take great pride in providing outstanding service and always going above and beyond to ensure all of our needs are being met. We receive routine communications from Kohler on our maintenance activities and recommendations for areas of improvement. On the few occasions when I needed to reach out to Tom to correct an issue, he always responded quickly and in the best interest of the home owner. Kudos to Margaret on helping to get our landscape plan up-to-date after we moved in. Improvements to the plan are still a work in progress, and I'm confident we will be able to knock out more of the updates in the Spring!

I went into this process wanting to spend whatever money necessary for a high quality garden living environment. I was highly recommended to Surround by neighbors in Great Falls. After my experience, I now see that they may be resting on their past reputation and that any trust given to them by past clients is now misplaced.

With my interactions with Surround, it is clear that this company primarily cares about money, rather than passion or a sincere interest in client projects. Although I was told by Kevin the sales manager initially that Howard the designer would come to our initial appointment, he canceled last minute and did not come; I was told that him meeting with me would not be 'worth his time' unless my project surpassed 'a certain budget', 300k not being enough. This led to Kevin meeting with me with his broken iPad. When I expressed confusion as to why anyone would spend money without an impression of a potential vision from the designer or even the broken iPad, Kevin initially dismissed this.

I was further informed by Kevin that the ideal client is essentially one for whom budget is not a concern, where an initial budget that is set is surpassed; he showed me a portfolio of a client whose initial budget was 500k and turned into 1.5 million. The garden was beautiful, but the implicit message was that you were only valued as a client if you had a high budget like that, and that you should expect for any budget to be surpassed.

I share these details to illustrate the type of experience you may have if you are thinking about reaching out to them for services. I cannot really express in words how awful of a feeling it is to be treated poorly simply because you do not have enough money to spend what they deem necessary as worthy of their time on landscaping. From my perspective, I also could not help but feel as if they treated me like this as I am a young asian woman and their company leadership is all white men.

When I shared this feedback in kind words with Kevin, I was not given any courtesy of a response so have posted this here to help spare others from receiving this type of poor treatment, particularly in light of equity and diversity considerations. I found my interaction with them to be very hurtful. Though their designs are clearly beautiful, I would recommend looking elsewhere due to their treatment of clients and potential clients with sincere interests in working with them.

I have had a positive experience with Surrounds. Their attentiveness has been refreshing.

I have a continuing problem with deer. Who doesn't? It was recommended that violas be planted to give some color to my front circle. For a few weeks it was good. But alas, I was out of town for Thanksgiving and returned to find the plants eaten down practically to the ground. I appreciated the suggestion, though. I am sure Surrounds will have other suggestions.

The grounds crew has been responsive and respectful. Both are greatly appreciated. The relationship with supervisors has been particularly good. Thank you Tom and Tyler. I am looking forward to Margaret's ideas for spring plantings.

I selected Surrounds to re-design of my townhome's backyard space. I left a voice message for them saying that I wanted to re-imagine my backyard that would thrive for decades to come. They called me back and they delivered their professional landscaping services beautifully!

Surrounds landscape architects did an amazing job of designing my backyard with all the elements of nature—earth, water, fire, and space! I'm enjoying all the beautiful plantings that provide beauty and privacy; a water feature; a tiki lamp; a re-purposed tree stump from one of my old trees (which serves as a plant ‘stand’), all coming together to illuminate the boho vibe that’s me.

The landscape crew is so talented and respectful of my surrounds that I felt that I always had a voice in how the redesign was going, what changes we needed to make along the way--a true partnership!

The job finished just a few months ago in Oct 2023, just enough time to enjoy my new surroundings, see and hear all the beauty that's right in front of me. I'm looking forward to this coming spring when I can land-fully in this “new” space and start to create my outdoor living space even more!

I had a wonderful experience with Surrounds. Chad Talton did an outstanding job working with my wife and I to conceive and bringing to life a simply beautiful design that incorporated all of our desired features while at the same time meeting the requirements of my town and county. The Surrounds team that implemented and installed this design were absolutely top notch. The end result is fabulous and we couldn't be happier. I will add that we have engaged Surrounds to provide weekly maintenance of our landscape and they continue to be a pleasure to work with.

My wife and I are delighted by our home's landscape transformation led ably and passionately by Surrounds Landscape Architect, Howard Cohen. The hardscape and plantings organically flow before and around us, enveloping our home in a sanctuary of peaceful contemplation and visual delight. The landscape plan balances artistic vision and innovation with highly functional space utilization, integrated with existing trees, plantings and unlevel land surfaces. We are grateful for Howard's vision, talents and dedication, and deeply appreciative of the Surrounds team that has brought us this wonderful environment.

We just had a pool put in and hired Surrounds to upgrade the entryway and design our backyard pool area. Couldn’t be happier and everyone compliments this space! We didn’t know exactly what we wanted done initially but the sales and design team got our vision and provided options to work within our budget. I appreciate their follow up during the build to make sure everything was to plan. The project went very smoothly, finished before they said they would, and we were able to get a hold of them anytime we had a question. We will absolutely be using them again for our future landscaping projects.

We hired Surrounds to build our outdoor space in our backyard and they did a fantastic job! The entire Surrounds team was great to work with and we were very impressed with their attention to detail. It was a substantial project consisting of a covered structure, fire pit area, patio, lighting, and landscaping. Whenever we had a question or concern they were extremely accommodating. For example, the staircase they started to build out of our family room didn't look the way we had hoped and they immediately redesigned it and redid it with no questions asked and no additional cost. Our project manager, Dave, was great at keeping us updated on the progress and was always available via email and text throughout the project. Thank you Surrounds for an amazing experience!

Surrounds brought our living space to the outdoors. Like many, the pandemic prompted new investment in our home. We knew we were unhappy with our previous landscaping but didn't know exactly what we wanted. Enter Howard and the Surrounds team! They listened to our interests, learned about our family and how we might use the space and put together a full design for both the front and back yards. We love our local wildlife and Howard designed a space that embraces native plants and helps our neighborhood birds and pollinators feel right at home. The work was completed on schedule with a very professional team that kept us in the loop every step of the way. The results have completely changed the way we interact with our house. We spend less time sitting on the sofa and more being outside, socializing with neighbors and friends, roasting marshmallows by the fire pit, and enjoying our backyard wildlife. Thank you Surrounds!

Love the hard and land scaping this company completed for our family. Cannot get any more joy out of their project than we have as a family of 4.

I looked back at their 3D photos they showed me before the project started and it's amazing how close to realistic they turned out to be. I'm attaching the finished project photos! While I'm not showcasing the before and after, imagine the before pictures to be a large tree in the middle of the yard and nothing else appealing present.

I spent zero time in the backyard before the renovation. Now I spend every morning in my garden with coffee and many evenings for dinner and weekend get togethers.
