My neighbor and I had a dozen large pines removed by Poor Folks. Brandon was very professional along with his entire crew. Incredibly fast and efficient. Debris clean up was thorough as well.

Poor Folks Tree Service removed a gigantic, storm-damaged tree from my property, and I am extremely pleased with their work. I called on Tuesday, had an estimate by Wednesday, and the tree was down on Friday. All this at a price considerably lower than the other companies I contacted. Highly recommended.

Tom and his folks did an outstanding job. They showed up on time with all the equipment they needed and took care of everything I needed done very professionally and quickly with no problems. They are great people to work with and I'm very happy with the results. I highly recommend them for all your tree servicing needs!

The team that was here was outstanding, they removed three trees plus one that had fallen in just a little over one day. Quality and price was exceptional, they left property cleaner than when they arrived and all were very professional. Use these guys if you need anything related to trees.

Exceptional office staff, Responsive, Proffessional and timely. Most competitive price in town. You DO need to specify if you also need the stump grindings removed and it will be additional cost but very necessary and worth it if it’s in a yard you use. Price still better than the rest. I am putting flower beds where the tree, stump, and roots were so I needed additional “root chasing” done and deeper grinding of which I didn’t realize needed specified as well. However they came back promptly and took care of everything needed to get my flower beds put in. Very friendly and Proffessional workers just specify exactly what is needed for what you are using your space for. Highly recommended for price, timeliness, Professionalism, and follow through with the job. Extremely grateful for their help and can’t recommend them enough!!

They did a great job cutting my tree back! When the crew arrived they showed me exactly what limbs were going to be removed. Everything was cleaned up like they weren’t even there. I will definitely be using them again for all of my tree care needs.

I cannot rate their quality of service because they were taking down a tree at my neighbors house. But, I can say they left plenty of hydraulic fluid on the street in front of my house 2 doors down from where they were working. Fix the leaks on your trucks and the Bobcat

I called Poor Folks Tree Service for an estimate on a Magnolia tree that was dead and needed to be cut down. They came out quickly and gave me a competitive quote. I accepted their quote the same day (March 2nd) in hopes to get it taken care of quickly before it fell on our home. They told me they would call when they had a date. It is April 26th and I never got a call. Their lack of customer service causes me to suggest you look elsewhere. I went with Colonial Tree service who communicated very well and came out within a week for $200 less than what Poor Folks quoted me. Customer service, communication is everything!

GREAT service!!! Had 3 trees cut. They did it quick, and they did a fantastic job. They cleaned it all up, too, with barely a trace of any sticks or leaves left behind. Best thing was the price!!! They were literally HUNDREDS below the two other competitors I got quotes from. Highly, HIGHLY recommend!!!!!

Like it has already been stated. Communication is everything. As a disabled veteran I went with Poor Folk because of his military affiliation. I called to set up an appointment for a quote, they said he will be out in 2 days. After waiting a week I called back. Why? Because no one called me. I was again told he will be in your area tomorrow. Well tomorrow came and went with no contact what so ever from this company. After 3 more days a quote was in my door. I finally had to call once again to set an appointment and was told that they promised they will be out on Thursday. Well you guessed it. No show. So I called them. Only to be told sorry they are very busy with the storm damage. I asked why I could not even get a phone call back, I was told they are sorry. About 1 hour later I finally got a phone call from this company. She asked me if maybe I have them mistaken for another company as they did not have any written knowledge of my appointment. I explained I did not have them confused with anyone else, as I did not contacted any other tree service. Their communication is a large issue and by reading another comment and on going issue. I am looking for another company.

I am writing this review on behalf of my mother. They went out to my mother's property on Monday, November 13, 2023 and they did an amazing job. They cut down two (2) large trees on her property and removed the lumber off of her property and grinded the tree stumps. My mother was very pleased and she would definitely recommend this company.

Poor Folks Tree Service came and trimmed a large water oak in my front yard. They did an amazing job. When I called last week they said that it could be 3-4 weeks to fit me in. But I got a call that said they had a cancellation and they could fit me in the next day. which was just a week after I called.

Just had them remove 5 trees out of my yard and they did a decent job. Its removing trees and they did a great job at that, and even cut some up and set aside for me to burn in my family’s outdoor fireplace. Dee and his crew were pretty good and let me know when there were issues like logs too heavy for equipment so it was going to tear up yard. There were flaws with this company though. At first seemed like we should have went elsewhere, but consumer loyalty has biten me in more ways than one. First was told 10 days, and then I had to call back only to wait another 7 days and was told “oh I was looking for your paperwork” over the phone by the receptionist. Then the day they came out was called to let us know they were on the way, nice right, only to find them come in via segments. One guy showed up followed by a few more, then they talk a bit then get to work. Seemed like their way to drop trees in a residential area is dangerous. They trimmed the tree and dropped it without even topping it. My trees were every bit 50+ feet tall, which is why I had them removed, and every time they dropped a tree the ground shook. I was shocked to see this done in a residential area because of all the underground utilities, i.e water, gas, sewage, and power which is why I had them removed instead of cutting them down myself. At this point I was not worried about telephone or cable but later found out I should have been. I was not really concerned with them tearing up the yard because they are removing trees and I figured that would be the case as I used to cut trees down back home in the country. They did end up cutting my phone and cable line while sectioning a whole tree they dropped and then they had to drag two of the sections through the yard because the equipment could not pick it up. This of course tore up the yard but I was good with that because I already figured that would be the case. What I did not think would tear up my yard were the logs that sat on my grass for 3 days. Once they were picked up I had to call to let them know they were picked up so they could come to come get their cones. Then I had to call again for them to get their cones. I woke up Friday and not sure if they got their cones or if someone else did but I know by Saturday I got tired of all the debris on my side yard and the complaints from neighbors about it that I had to clean their mess up. Overall I got what I wanted and needed done. Would I have them do it again? Yes because they provided the service I requested. Would I recommend them? Yes I have because I think they did a decent job, just need to do it more safely and also find out the law for dropping trees in a residential area. I have already recommended them and gave the individual my honest non biased opinion. The reason behind the two star review is because of the safety of how they dropped them.

I had 3 large trees (oaks) taken down almost a year ago and then some other yard work approx 1 month ago. As I am calling around for other work (inside house reno) and not getting calls backs etc., I am reminded how responsive Larissa with Poor Folks Tree Service was. She called back when she said she would call back. And emailed when she said she would. Etc. She could teach other companies about responsiveness and customer service. As well, the work was great. Shout out to Russ for his stump grinding skills, very, very thorough and he as well, went the extra mile with pics after completion as I was not on-site. Tom, the owner, offered a very reasonable rate compared to the other estimates I had received and managed to fit me in last winter during a busy post storm period.

We hired Poor Foulks Tree Service to take down 3 trees that were very close to our house as well as grind the stumps. They offered competitive pricing and the quality of their work was great. On the day of the job, the two men actually showed up on time! We value punctuality as it is so rare these days in the home improvement world. Everyone we spoke with and worked with was friendly and professional. In general, you just have to be patient with scheduling as the weather impacts it.

I called Poor Folks for an estimate, Brandon called the next day and schedule a time to come out. His estimate beat out two other companies and didn't need a crane, which the other companies said I did. They called in a week and came out and started on the job. They even help me move a wood pile I was unable to get right away. It took two days and two trees were down and stumps grinded. They cleaned up the entire yard back and front. Put top soil down on a few ruts the Bob Cat caused when moving logs to street. They did a fantastic job and would highly recommend them.

I have had the pleasure of working with Poor Folks Tree Service on several occasions over the last 20 years and they are certainly the best tree service company in Hampton Roads. On time, efficient, nice to work with no matter what you need done.
