My son and I walked in because he was interested in some bracelets located outside. The gentleman there did not acknowledge us at all. We waited at the register while he has a conversation off to the side. We eventually walked out.

I have bought a few contemporary and antique rugs from Adem and Birgul Solak of Shirvan over the past 13 years. Their personal attention and integrity keeps me coming back. Plus, Adem comes from a long line of rug merchants and really knows his stuff! BTW, for some reason I had someone else on Bainbridge clean my rugs this summer. Big mistake. I had to have Shirvan clean them ALL again. They are the only people I will let touch my rugs in the future.

My wife and I recent visited Adem at his Bainbridge store during our honeymoon (Sleepless has n Seattle anyone?).

To say that Adem displays the utmost professionalism and hospitality is an understatement. My wife happens to be half Turkish, and the way he reacted to meeting her was like he was speaking with a daughter he never had. It was surreal.

He showed us his certificate from Turkey stating that he is an expert in Turkish rugs. That’s like the U.S. Government certifying someone as an expert on Rockwell’s paintings.

The store itself is very clean, and the rugs are in great condition with no dust. They come straight from a Turkish distributor that brings the rugs into America once a year. In other words, what you see is what he purchased. This isn’t someone who helps you order something you could have purchased online; this is someone who takes the time to ensure you have the best quality rugs for your budget.

We overheard another customer speaking to Adem in an almost patronizing way. I could tell she took his accent to mean he doesn’t understand English. That is incorrect. Take your time speaking with him, and he will take his time ensuring you leave with a smile.

Adem’s shop will be a must every time we visit Seattle. We were truly blessed to share in his stories and see just how small the world can be.

We have purchased two large Asian/Mid Eastern rugs from them and have been extremely happy. Both Adem and Birgul, besides being an extremely nice couple, are knowledgeable , competent and helpful. They carry a wide selection of quality rugs. I consider them fair and honest and have recommended them to several of our friends and family who have also completed purchases there.

We have been clients of Adem and Birgul for 20 years now and both of them have not only been excellent purveyors of beautiful rugs, master repairman and amazing resources BUT also tremendous assets to our community. Our family trusts their advice and have found that they are the only ones we would highly recommend for anything to do with your fine rugs.

My Rug Transformation:

I obtained a Vintage Persian rug at an estate auction that was obviously never cleaned. It was quite dirty, with dull and lifeless colors. I took it into Shirvan Rug Gallery, hoping for a significant improvement, and I definitely wasn't let down.

I was absolutely amazed by the results; the muted, subtle colors I thought were just part of its age are now incredibly vibrant. Plus, the carpet is wonderfully soft to the touch, a huge difference from its original stiff feel.

What truly rounded out my experience were the welcoming and knowledgeable proprietors. Their store wasn't just a drop-off point; it was a fascinating space with unique rugs, other intriguing finds, and a captivating display of uniquely crafted Nazar amulets. It was a pleasure from start to finish, and I highly recommend Shirvan Rug Gallery
