Stay away from this company. They don’t pay their bills. Performed a small job for us and it went horrible. Talked to an attorney about taking them to court and he advised us it would be a waste of time. Evidently the business is/was in foreclosure and the chances of us ever getting paid even after getting a judgement was slim.
Beware -
It’s amateur hour when it comes to this company and it’s snowplowing and ice removal. Snowed for 2 days straight and 16” of snow if not more. They don’t even come open up the parking lot the driveway or the approach so nobody was able to leave this building for 2 days. Many people fell and have injuries because this building houses families, kids, disabled people and elderly.. If you value your money, you wouldn’t hire this company to do your sidewalks let alone your apartment building.

Avoid this company at all cost, there are much more honest companies in the area. This company damaged my vehicles custom paint job and also chipped the windshield (it’s not terrible, but it still happened.) I contacted them about the issue and was ignored for over a week. When I finally reached back out for more details I was told to take it up with my insurance… wow. Nothing like screwing me over then telling me kick rocks.
And again, I’ll be 100% honest, the damage isn’t massive. I can repair the paint myself, and the chip is easily fixable. But the fact they won’t even admit and take responsibility is very low and speaks volumes about how this company operates.
Save your time, because on the off chance something goes wrong, you’re on your own.
If you have good insurance… then they’re probably good enough LOL -
Working with Maple Leaf on my new lawn, watering program and driveway wasn’t a good experience. I will say they did a good job grading the lawn and installing the retention wall.
The lawn wasn’t fully re-seeded (some old lawn was left behind) so the old grass that was left behind has taken over and the new lawn is turning into weeds.
The driveway has footprints in the concrete and the sealing took quite a while to complete. They came 3 times randomly and I never got notice. At the end, they left materials behind that I can’t dispose of without paying for it (He said he would come back to finish the job and never did).
The worst was the sprinkling service. I paid (what I thought was quite a lot money) for them to come out and install timers/sprinklers and it was a disaster. It took 2 weeks to get it properly installed (After 2 trips). Meanwhile, I had to water on my own and buy equipment. On the 2nd trip, a sprinkler was setup and sprayed straight at my house and didn’t move at all. Most hoses leaked and the sprinklers were in poor condition. A large section remained un-watered. I alerted them to this and they issued a discount on the service. I decided to not have them come and fix the remaining issues as it didn’t go well on the install and I was worried it could get worse.
The kicker was that we had agreed to extend the watering an extra week (as it took an extra week to install) and they came a week early and removed the equipment. I never got an answer why or any kind of refund for the 1 week (our of 5) that I missed out on.
I am mostly disappointed in communication. I had to email/call a lot to get answers. I got no information on how to take care of the lawn (watering, when to remove straw, etc). I received no guidance on the watering system (I had to get the manual to lookup how to use it). I still have many emails unanswered and no one has ever returned my calls/voicemails. People would say they are going to come out and never did. -
Absolutely avoid Maple Leaf for landscaping at all cost!!! We contracted Maple Leaf to do landscaping work for our new built back in October 2023. First of all, the communication is terrible. We asked them to not start the landscaping until after winter as we believe the grass will grow better if they are put in during spring time. This request was ignored with no communication and it is now September 2024, and our backyard looks horrible despite having so much rain this year. The grass seed never grow and we had to spend a lot of money to reseed. Additionally, $1000 was charged for temporary irrigation system but since the project was completed end of October 2023 and it was freezing weather, the irrigation system was not able to be used. We asked them for a refund and kept getting ignore until we told them we were going to small claim court. This took about 5 months for them to issue us a refund check on a service that they did not provide. Lastly and most importantly, the retaining wall they built is visibly sinking (see pictures). As part of their contract, hardscape is under warranty for 2 years. We brought this up and they have been stringing us a long for four months now with no response to when they are going to address the sinking of the wall. Absolutely avoid!!! They have been a nightmare to work with.

Maple leaf was hired to do our residential project, including landscaping, edging, and a concrete patio in 2024. While we were happy with some of the elements of this, we certainly have not been happy with the follow up on the issues that we’ve had…..plants that have died or the curbing, which was never completed. I’ve reached out multiple times to get These things remedied and we’re beyond frustrated with the responsiveness and quality of our curbing and the replacement of plants/shrubs that have died.

I waited several weeks before leaving this review to see if my sentiments would change. I read all the reviews before choosing to start my project with Maple Leaf and I took note of multiple negative reviews commenting on property damage and poor communication. I wrongly gave the benefit of the doubt to this longstanding and sizable business. In hindsight, I have regret for not listening to the feedback of others. I'm providing as much objectivity to this review as possible to help protect others from experiencing what I did.
I worked directly with Joel (the owner) to make a plan to landscape a hill in the front of my house, where there are three fully-grown maple trees. These trees are in excellent health and are extremely valuable to me, as it is not possible to replace trees of this size. I made it clear numerous times in person and by email (see attached) that I was concerned about the risk of damage to the trees, especially the roots. I received multiple reassurances that the roots would be fine and that the degree of excavating would be minimal.
Several weeks after signing the contract, we still had not heard back from the company on a date for the work. I called several times and was assured that I would receive a call back when it was scheduled. When I noticed Diggeer's Hotline in my yard, it was obvious that work was being planned in the near future. I called the company again and was told that they would get back to me. I never received a phone call (although they allege that they attempted to call me once, the evening before they arrived).
The next morning, my wife called me at work to inform me that a person in a bulldozer was tearing up the front hill. Nobody rang the doorbell or attempted to call us to let us know that work was starting. I promptly spoke with the worker on the phone and emphasized that it was essential that none of the roots be damaged. He informed me that he had already destroyed some "pretty big roots". In an effort to try to mitigate further damage, I paid out one of my coworkers to cover me mid-shift and rushed home. The damage was already done. The attached photos show multiple large roots that were shredded or transected right next to the trunks. Furthermore, he managed to gouge the trunks of two of the trees. The hydraulic equipment was left on my lawn over the weekend.
After the first day, I spent three entire days working alongside the crews to ensure that the project did not cause additional damage. I dug holes, moved dirt in wheelbarrows, and placed rocks. Even while I was present, one of the workers decided to try to unload a truckload of mulch before removing my $900 tree from the bed. He decided to hold the tree in one hand and the bed in the other as it inverted. Unsurprisingly, he fell out of the bed onto the tree. I was assured that the tree would be okay, and it was planted anyway. I later saw that the trunk of the new tree had completely snapped. Another time, I noticed that the root ball of a planted bush was 3" above the ground. I asked for it to be planted properly and was told it was "good". The worker then stomped on the root ball to unsuccessfully push it farther down. I dug out the bush and planted it properly myself.
The damage done was egregious. An assessment by an arborist confirmed what I already suspected, which is that the damage that was done was consequential, and could have destroyed more than 25% of these trees root systems. I had made an extraordinary effort to be proactive and avoid this damage by speaking to Joel multiple times and trying to be home so that I could relay my concerns to the crews before the work started.
This nightmare cost me $12,538.78. I was not offered any concession for the extensive damage, the need to involve an arborist, leaving work early, needing to labor myself, or losing sleep over this. The best communication occurred when payment was due, as I received multiple phone calls in a day to pressure me to pay.
I've been as objective as possible. Protect yourselves. There are many other options for landscaping. -
