Reviews of local pros in Carpinteria, California

I was trying to find the main sewer line under the slab as it crossed across the house. I had assumed a straight line from the toilet to the clean out at the front of the house near the street. After 2 hours of digging o had nothing. So I called the guys at the local Roto-Rooter to come and trace the line. They arrived within the hour! And when they traced the line with their sensor equipment I wished I had called them before digging. I was waaaaay off. The sewer was almost 4 feet laterally from where I was digging and over 3 feet deep. Yes, almost $1000 was painful but compared to many more hours spent digging through clay it ended up being very worth it

Roto Rooter is a very professional company who after taking my concerns over the phone had someone call me within 15 minutes to set up a same day appointment. The repairman came at the time promised and told me the details and price to have the problem corrected. Victor called his office to get a senior discount approved and the work was completed within 20 minutes!

I had to call after hours because water was backing up from all sources into my house. The scheduler on the phone was fast and efficient, and they got somebody out to my house I think within the hour. My technician was Eduardo G. and he was great. Super knowledgeable and quick with the process. Highly recommend.

Felipe showed up swiftly, was very polite and considerate, assessed our situation, clearly explained the work needed and cost, and professionally repaired our garbage disposal. Extremely quick and easy interaction.

Great team. They told me what they were going to do, they did it, and cleaned up afterwards. They also told me what might need to be done in the future. The only thing missing was an estimate for the future work. Very knowledgeable and friendly team.

Tbh it didn't start off great! Have family coming into town for a wedding and one of our toilets (super old) gave up the ghost as the worst possible time. I don't know about these things so I was just trying to get it repaired. Reserved a 5-7 window. A few minutes after 5, I got a text -- they were running behind and couldn't get there till after 8. No biggie EXCEPT, they said after 8pm there is a fee (I think $79) just to come out and look. I thought that was ridiculous -- they're late and they're charging me more? And I had no intention of saying yes to that.
But this is where the worm turned. :-) The scheduler went to a supervisor and they waived the fee and the tech came out.
He took one look at the antique toilet and pointed out where the rubber flapper inside the tank was deteriorating. Crumbling. He recommended new toilet and frankly he didn't need to twist my arm. But I only had the next day before people arrived -- he said he could do it. I said great!
Before 9am the next day he was there, and by noon I had a new toilet. Day saved! And maybe lesson learned -- had they not waived that fee they wouldn't have gotten a significant job!
I would use them again anytime! -
I had an emergency drain issue and Roto Rooter
got someone out there in less than an hour which
was great! Victor assessed the problem quickly
and resolved it. He was very good at communicating with me and sending photos of the issue. I recommend this company! -
The worker that was sent did asn excellent job of clearing my outside drain and identifying the probable cause. The supervisor was nice enough and did not appear to add anything, other than another body. They left and scheduled to come back after the rains. When they came back the price to repair was just to high for me. Gabriel the plumber provided me with an excellen t description of his suggested solution. He did his best to lower the cost and it was still too high for me. He does not have much control of the pricing.
Now why a one star rating if the drain was cleared and the plumber was excellent. I signed three documents , an estimate, invoice and one more that the supervisor said was necessary, on a pad for the supervisor and provided a check to pay in full for the work completed.on the day they did the work, it is now a week later and no copy of any of the documents. The Accounts Receivable department said I would get the docs showing I paid in full when the ticket was closed. I closed the ticket two days ago. I don't know why a company like this wants to appear to be dishonest. I liked the work, unnecessary people involved and no copy of documents signed. Who knows what I signed. I would use Gabriel again in a heartbeat, Roto-Rooter unlikely and I will not recommend them.
I received three texts asking for a review. Use them at your own risk. -
Fast… got here when they said they would, did the work they said they would, charged the amount they said they would.
Best of all there is no charge for them to come do an assessment.
Great service from the operator and the service writer / supervisor (Sam).
Tech (Victor) was awesome… A++ -
Edgar Perez Romero is a very patient, helpful and knowledgeable person who did an excellent job at my home. It’s a reassuring and pleasant experience when Edgar is the technician fixing your issue. Thank you so much Edgar for your kind and prompt help!

Eduardo arrived on time, and worked efficiently to unplug our sewer drain. He explained what he was going to do, prior to commencing the work. After he completed the work, he let us know about the 30 day warranty, which was appreciated. Nice job all around.

I called Roto-Rooter for an emergency water heater failure at my rental property, which left my tenant without hot water. They confirmed the unit needed to be replaced and quoted over $5,000. I got a second quote but chose Roto-Rooter because they explicitly confirmed multiple times they could install the new water heater the next day, and had me sign a service commitment based on that assurance.
The next day, they missed the scheduled install with no proactive communication. When I called at the appointment time, I was told they were backed up and wouldn’t make it, pushing the install to the following day. Had I gone with the other plumber, the job would have already been completed. The delay also meant I couldn’t be onsite due to travel.
When the install finally happened, the technician tried to get my tenant to sign off on the work. She refused, and I was pressured to verbally approve the job site unseen. While they did offer a discount and an extra year of warranty, the quality of work was unacceptable (see images)
They cut through original 1900-era redwood siding and left two PVC drain lines stubbed directly through the exterior wall and open to the elements. This was a sloppy shortcut; the lines could have been routed through the crawlspace properly or the pipes could have been drilled and caulked. They also left drywall debris inside the house after cutting through the interior wall.
To make matters worse, there was zero coordination on the required inspection weeks later. I received a text Monday morning saying a technician was onsite with inspection paperwork. There was no notice to me or the tenant, which I'm required to give 24hr notice in advance of anything onsite. My tenant was forced to wait all day for an inspector whose arrival time the technician couldn’t even estimate. The inspector finally showed up around 4:00 PM and signed off.
The only positive is that my tenant has hot water again and the inspection passed. Unfortunately, the cost, missed commitments, poor communication, and careless workmanship far outweigh that outcome. I will not be using Roto-Rooter again. -
Drinking on the job.

Had a water heat start leaking and Coastline was out the same day to get the work done. Several hundred dollars less than most other estimates, worked with a wonky schedule, and did quality work.
