Coastal Carpenter replaced an exterior deck and staircase for us and did an exceptional job. They are honest, dependable and go above and beyond what is required for the job. The work was of high quality, perfomed on schedule and at a fair price. Definitely would (and have) recommended him to others.

NOT JUST A CARPENTER
Doug and his team have bailed me out of very sticky situations on numerous occasions. Plumbing, electrical, carpentry. Doug first did some work for me on a house I bought in Vista nearly 5 years ago that was in need of both electrical, plumbing and carpentry work. With a meticulous eye for detail, Doug was able to do the work that saved me a lot of money, and time. The savings were reallocated to other projects which really helped me out. The deck had to be completely replaced, while some electrical had to be upgraded. The plumbing was in need of some upgrading as well. Other projects to be listed later.

This was one of the best experiences for our remodel. Coastal Carpenter came and did exactly what we wanted. Our deck was 30 plus years old and horrible looking. We now have a beautiful work of art. The price was amazing and the work professional. You will be most pleased with this company.

Doug was professional and helped us to plan the transition from wood to a composite deck. His price was reasonable and the work was completed in just a few days. We are pleased with the beautiful new structure.

I called Doug today while looking for contractors to build a deck. He informed me that he was unfortunately out of my area, then proceeded to spend an hour talking with me about my project.

He educated me on everything from local permits and build requirement in my area, to the specific materials best suited for my needs. He was extremely knowledgable and helpful and even offered to look over any plans from other contractors to make sure it gets built right.

1/15/2019... I was introduced to Doug Taylor( general contractor) by my tenant last week. He was called to address a situation at my rental. It only took 10 minutes for Doug to explain thoroughly how he suggested to remedy the problem. The problem was fixed in a professional timely manner. He put everything into perspective for me. Doug is honest, reasonable, on time and he's a family man AND he returns calls! I've already made a punch list of the things I need to have done to the house. Doug (Coastal Carpenter) will be doing the work. Thanks Doug.

I don’t write reviews often but I had to for this business. I’m extremely happy with coastal Carpenter. One rarely finds a carpenter/handyman, contractor etc ...that can do it all and I mean all- there is nothing Douglas cannot do. He is knowledgeable, meticulous and honest. I am definitely going to call him again real soon. If you need something done right, call coastal carpenter, you will not be disappointed I guarantee it. I can tell Doug loves what he does because it shows . So happy my neighbor referred coastal carpenter to me. I already told all my neighbors so he is going to be super busy. Thank you.

I am posting this review for my friend, Pat Hall, who wants to spread the word about Doug's good work but had trouble posting it herself...

I have had Doug do several projects around my house. First, he put in a back door and ramp off my back bedroom, then he put up a free-standing awning that a handyman could not install because he couldn't figure out how to do it. Doug put up this awning all by himself, and it's quite heavy and awkward.

When I first met Doug shortly after moving into my home, Doug noticed that the water heater was not vented. The building inspector failed to notice this and did not report it. Doug said that the water heater door, which faces outside, was not up to code and the heat buildup could cause a fire.

On further examination, Doug noticed that, yes, a small fire had occurred and melted a plastic part. Doug immediately went to the hardware store, bought a vent plate, cut the proper opening in the door and installed the vented plate.

I do not hesitate to leave Doug alone in my home while he works if I'm gone. He is very honest, is good to my dogs and his prices are very reasonable -- so reasonable, in fact, that I add to my payment and chastise him for not asking for more.

I used Doug Taylor of Coastal Carpenter on a project at one of my properties and I was really impressed with his level of detail. He completed the work in the time that he estimated and his cost was lower than the other bids that I got for the project. I was so happy with the work that I used him again recently on another project at a different house and he completed this work in similar fashion. I would recommend him to others. It's nice to find someone that is knowledgeable and trustworthy.

Doug Taylor, Coastal Carpenter, is performing work for us at our house in Vista, CA. He’s doing very good work at a rate that is reasonable for all concerned. Doug has gone out of his way to make himself available at times that are convenient for us. We have an ongoing project that he’s currently working on and is demonstrating that he truly is a jack of all trades. I highly recommend him.

Although I did not use Doug's services, due to me being outside his service area, he spent quite a bit of time educating me on what I should look out for when embarking on my project. He even went as far as looking up my property on google and giving me great suggestions on options for my project based on my orientation and location of my home (possibly a great business idea is to do virtual consults!).

I am not surprised by all the other 5 star reviews as Doug really knows his stuff and seemed to be very transparent about his company and also a very good educator. Thanks again Doug for the time you spent talking on the phone with me today.

Called Doug to ask him if he could help out with a handrail/guardrail project we have going on. I didn't realize this isn't a service he provides (steel fabrication), but he still spent nearly 15 minutes looking at project photos, providing advice and helping me look for another contractor locally who could help. I may not have worked with him or used his services professionally, but his willingness to help even when it was a project that wasn't going to bring him anything in return shows great integrity! Thanks for your help, Doug. I appreciate it!

Doug is definitely the kind of professional you want to have around if you looking to get a job done right. He selflessly helped my family and I at no expense when one of the valves under my kitchen sink busted. Hard worker and very knowledgeable. Educated me on plumbing, valves, mold, dry wall, etc. He will leave no stone unturned.

Doug rebuilt our large tiki hut much better than it ever was before after it collapsed in heavy winds and rain. We are very pleased with his work and carpentry skills.

Wow! What can I say. Doug is the ultimate stickler for perfection. He really measures twice and cuts once. Very detailed and keeps you informed on exactly what will take place. We are so happy with our walk around deck. We highly recommend coastal, carpenter.

Coastal Carpenter built me a beautiful fence and raised garden bed! I needed some privacy living in a mobile home park and I really wanted a horizontal fence. The fence looks great and all my neighbors have complimented it. The garden box is so nice. I am in my 50s and I don't have to be bent over all day in the garden he built this the perfect height for me. I am so happy with my yard now.

I had a portion of fence fall over due to a post that was old and broken. I sent pictures to them and Rich and crew came out super fast. I was pleasantly surprised. Repair was a small job that only took a couple of hours. Outstanding customer service and quality work!
