I had MAC 5 install a water softener on January 22, 2025, and my experience with them has been frustrating from start to finish.
First, during the site survey, the technician should have noticed that there was no power drop where the softener needed to go. They neither installed one nor informed me that I needed to hire an electrician, leaving me to rely on an extension cord.
Second, the technician did not bring any salt during installation, which meant he didn’t test the system for leaks or ensure it was working properly. I had to buy salt myself that evening and figure out how to program the system on my own—something I would have expected the technician to walk me through.
Later, I suspected that the softener wasn’t working because the salt level wasn’t going down. When I checked, I found that the unit had been left in bypass mode since installation, meaning it had done absolutely nothing for over a month. When I attempted to take it out of bypass, it began leaking heavily and tripped the breaker, forcing me to leave it in bypass mode and wait for a fix.
To make matters worse, I identified the issue over the weekend, but MAC 5 couldn’t send anyone until Monday afternoon to fix it. While Tony, the technician, did come back out and resolve the leak, another plumber working inside my house pointed out that MAC 5 had not routed the PVC properly and that they should have leveled the ground underneath the softener—something they failed to do.
Given these oversights, the lack of attention to detail, and the delays in getting the system working properly, I won’t be using MAC 5’s services again. I expected far better for the money I spent. -
Kallel Hernandez was my service tech today. He was extremely polite, professional, and informative in regards to my current issue plus upcoming services needed. Thus far this has been my 2nd time using Mac5 services and I couldn’t be happier with their mannerism and business. Thank you!

Mac 5 is a great company. The tech who was here, Angel Bonilla, is very professional, friendly and willing to explain his work to me so I understood it. I would not hesitate to call Mac5 whenever I need a plumber.

After my initial experience, Patrick from Mac 5 personally reached out to discuss the situation. He took the time to listen to my concerns, was professional and understanding, and made things right. I truly appreciate a company that follows up and values customer feedback. Patrick also explained in depth what the membership entails and we look forward to working with them in the near future.

Requested full cost of home Repipe comprehensive total estimate with water heater, dishwasher install and washing machine water hook up to restore functionality. Provided written comprehensive list of all needed repairs to Mac5 rep so the estimate being done by him would be accurate, comprehensive and fully priced. (all appliances were purchased new by customer and already provided and on site prior to start of work).
Small bungalow of approx 900 sq ft.
Estimated "total" quoted at $9041.10. They asked for a deposit of half. They got on site, started the repipe and then wanted an additional $7880 to over $11,000 with reference to the water heater to expand the original repipe job to include and procure an additional entire electrical upgrade job for their company. It was a pressured upsell. When asked why that was not advised in the original inspection and assessment of the job? They blamed it on a lack of competency and communication on the part of the associate that did the inspection. Their explanations always had 'someone else' to shift the blame onto. However, rather than take ownership, they were laser focused on expanding the original job to pressure and force an entire electrical upgrade. I had to decline and what was advised by them, in one minute as "impossible to do without a complete electrical upgrade"; 20 minutes later, they claimed they could "rewire that particular outlet to accomodate the water heater." It was 'miraculous'(?); but more likely that they wanted to avoid losing the original bid and repipe job at hand, so now they presented saying they could "make it work."
They hooked it up. The plumbers got shocked. They had several electricians out. I was told the job was "completed." A county inspector came out to do the final inspection. He told me "it passed" then, few hours later, without any prior notice or authorization from Mac5, heard someone out back banging around and found someone from Mac5 had entered my property without prior advisement installing an additional fixture I was not made aware of and did not authorize AFTER the final inspection had taken place. That technician asked for the final payment check.
End result, NO HOT WATER.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! They are full of double talk, rationalizations, inconsistencies and half truths in addition to being incompetent. You cannot get a straight reliable answer out of them to save your life. The repipe job has drainage pipes into the septic tank running on TOP of the ground and EXPOSED rather than buried under the surface impeding normal lawn care functionality. Their response and rationale to that was to say, "Well, the inspector passed it" as if that was all the resolution THEY needed. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY! They will take your money and leave you HANGING!!!!
At this point, with this result, I no longer feel as though I can trust even allowing them on my property. They are not focused on the integrity and functional restoration of the job they were hired to do, but on rationalizing and defending what went wrong after starting the work; and to use that to manipulate their customers to maximize revenue in an attempt to get as much money out of you as possible; while patronizing you by making it seem like they are making concession after concession that you never solicited from them in the first place. If you need your job done right, you CANNOT rely on this company...it's a constant back and forth and shifting of rhetoric. After office call confirming drywall cuts would be repaired, they refused but said they'd do it for an additional $1800! It's a pattern of manipulation!
AVOID THEM!!! They are full of scenarios, rationalizations and apologies when all we asked and paid for was to get a STRAIGHT ANSWER and to get the work DONE RIGHT AND RELIABLY the FIRST TIME!!!
*AVOID this company. They will justify and shroud all their actions in 'goodwill' but their techniques are subversive.
*Addendum to above review. They email you invoices that have some unknown signature on them that is NOT yours that job is "satisfactory." -
Chris Pena did an amazing job! He was very professional, explained everything that was going on with our AC and showed us pictures of the issues. He also worked with us to find the best solution with our budget. Chris is your guy!

The level of service and professionalism varies greatly from person to person whenever a tech comes to my home.
Six months ago I had a plumbing job. The work was done and an inspection was needed for the permit by Orange County. This work was done superbly by a Mac 5 plumber.
I waited a month with exposed pipes and had to call Mac5 to re-expose them since it rained several times. It turns out they forgot about my job. I had to call Mac 5 again when the inspection passed to fill in all exposed pipes. Needless to say my lawn hasn't recovered. The job included a service plan covering some basic services for 1 year.
Yesterday I allowed a "Neighbor prepaid plan" inspection of my electrical even though I was told it would be a free HVAC maintenance. Mac 5's tech Logan McDaniel supposedly had to review my entire home's electrical system and attempted to charge me around $2,500 to fix 1 kitchen receptacle and provide an upgraded dual main grounding of my electrical system. 🤔.
If that's not enough, the HVAC tech named Stephen Benitez arrived late in the day (the other was at 9am). This man reprimanded me over a "recorded line" via their customer service. I had never used Mac5 for anything but plumbing. In his call regarding my system, Stephen determined that i shouldn't have had anyone unlicensed touch my HVAC unit and I paid the last repairman for nothing. He has no idea who I worked with previously yet he was seemingly upset over the state of my equipment.
He said he would not complete maintenance because the system had a leak and was freezing within 2 minutes of turning on. I tried to explain that the tenants at that home have continuously abused the system and my regular HVAC tech; a fully licensed individual, agreed with me. The tenants were supposed to have fixed the issue but instead used the vulnerable A/C all summer with a leak causing the depletion of Freon.
I would love Mac 5's Family Owned management to review the call whereby this tech is talking down to me as if I had had tried to get something free. I didn't call for this maintenance. They called me. When I mentioned the warranty he started going on about labor costs (as if they wouldn't happen with Mac 5)???
Why would Mac5 keep someone on staff who behaves like this? He should have called me to discuss my home's unit with me. Instead, he sent pictures and spent the time telling the tenants whatever the problems were. There's no write up along with the pictures so I am still unsure about what exactly happened. He said he wouldn't touch the unit but the photos showed he most definitely tinkered around. One photo is of bolts or something in his hand.
I now believe that the prepaid plan is a scheme to enter into the home and tamper with the most delicate parts of our houses. I would never pay an outrageous amount ($2,500) for replacement of a receptacle. Dual main grounding is absolutely unnecessary for my single family home yet the electrical tech Logan was adamant about how necessary it was. So, the next time Mac 5 calls you for your free HVAC yearly maintenance be weary.
They might damage a perfectly good system claiming that you need an upgrade or the wiring is outdated when the house is perfectly fine. I know I am up to code because the house is a recent purchase and HUD required an inspection which passed. Nothing in life is free and even when paying $200 for service you might as well just burn the money. They not only insulted me and a Veteran HVAC technician but they don't make sense. Let's hope my post stays up. Good luck. -
