Lex replaced our 20+ yr old wood deck (13'x20') with 20' Timber's Tech AZEK French English Oak PVC planks, reinforcing the stairway and whatever needed support and preservation (tape along the tops of all the joists), underneath the new planking. He also repaired and replaced the deck's stairway railing leading to the yard below. He informed us clearly about the price and costs to any additions deemed necessary for safety and strength. The deck is beautiful and well-crafted. And, it was completed in three days! Couldn't be more pleased!

Our new office project from design to finished product was well run, professional, and included many twists which Solid Built went above and beyond the call. Solid Built did a fantastic job keeping the project on task and on time considering the challenges permitting puts all projects through in Hawaii. Wouldn't have been able to do it without them!

We hired Lex and Solid Built Construction to retrofit a 1929 post and pier house located on a hill, basically to replace rotted posts and also strengthen the foundation against hurricanes, earthquakes or just the house shifting since there was nothing really attaching it to the ground (resting on tofu blocks). I contacted other companies who showed no interest or completely ignored what I wanted. In comparison, Lex not only looked closely at my proposed idea but gave a lot of good suggestions on how to improve the plan, and reached out to experts on the mainland to verify that his ideas were solid. He really gave our project a lot of thought! He also helped navigate the permit process -- getting the permit was the only delay and not under his control -- and everything he said he'd do, he did when promised and at the prices quoted. When changes needed to be made, or expenses increased due to inflation and cost of materials, he always gave a head's up and suggested ways to save money. We decided that we needed to do SOMETHING to break the routine of lockdowns during the COVID summer of 2020. A bathroom remodel sounded like just the thing to keep us occupied. Our goal was to find someone to run the project who: 1) was small enough to appreciate getting the work 2) was experienced enough to run the project smoothly and 3) was willing to put up with an engineer/handyman/fixit guy as a customer.
We put a bit of effort into making the contractor selection and finally decided that Lex was patient enough to put up with the engineer and still sane enough to push the entire project through to completion. As it turned out, we made a good choice. Despite COVID complications, COVID induced parts shortages, a growing list of project changes and expansions and just a bunch of stuff that none of us had ever done before - it still got DONE and pretty much within the expected cost!!
Lex and his subcontractors did great and adapted to changes easily - even when asked to do things that they hadn't faced before. The project involved lots of re-use of existing cabinets (after complete refinishing) and whole wall mirrors (originally glued to the walls then successfully removed, protected, cleaned up and reinstalled as a last step). and disassembly of a doorway to provide and opening large enough to allow the new tub (a 3 foot deep, circular, Roman soaking tub - or Ofuro, for the Japanese among us) to simply get into the right room. He had to cut the slab for drains, customise the tub supporting structure and the fill/drain plumbing for the Ofuro tub. Even the floors (did I mentions that this project include 2 bathrooms) were a product that Lex hadn't worked with before.
All things told, we bit off quite a bit more than we expected to when we first envisioned the project and when we first described it to Lex. However, with Lex's help, we got through it all without fatality or even severe personal injury and ended up with two bathrooms that are far nicer than we originally envisioned.
The project budget was actively managed and we were never met with surprises and, most importantly, Lex kept it all moving on a timeline that we could live with.

It has been an awesome experience to meet and have Lex Allen do the rebuild of our 2 level wooden deck. The material and carpentry was of the best I have seen by any local contractor. We were always kept up to date on the progress of the job. Larry & Gladys

While interviewing contractors, Lex Allen of Solid Built Construction was the most impressive. He was enthusiastic about the project and provided much more information/details about how he would construct the deck. When Lex became our contractor, he worked with Structural Hawaii to improve the design of the deck. He kept us informed throughout the project. When there were issues, he informed us and we discussed how to proceed. The crews that he assembled for the construction (Concrete, Framing, Decking, Railing, Dry Wall, Painting, Finish Work, and Electrical) were excellent. Lex Allen / Solid Built Construction rebuilt my two huge and complicated decks - including the under-structures. Not an easy task. But Lex did a good job, and he paid attention to historical details that I really cared about retaining and replicating. He was very hands-on and did an excellent job managing his team.

Completely transformed our home when we purchased it 5 years ago... no leaks in the bedroom to bathroom conversion renovation, and the balcony is just as solid as day 1. No leaks in the new windows, home looks much more modern with all the improvements, and the realtor barely recognized it when she stopped by after all the work. We can't say enough good things about Lex Allen and his crew. We had a "unusual" soundproofing need, to mitigate the sound of a neighbors vibrating fan in our bedroom. He researched the project, found the right crew, worked diligently and professionally and completed it in two weeks. We felt he was totally invested in the project and in us and did an amazing job.

Staff was very helpful in helping fimd what I was looking for. Caahier was terrifically pleasant. Was a great shopping experience.

This is a great low-to-mid-priced place. My family of three at here for just $15! Cheeseburger, fried chicken, and a Spam Musubi (we skipped on the drinks). Their burger was delicious! The soft, fluffy, bun was delicious, chess was nice and melted, and the fried chicken was crisp and crackly yet juicy.

They've also got a ton of timmy looking selections I want to try. I will be visiting this place again.

I visited homedepot to replace windows and doors worth over 20k. Every visit I had to wait over 30min for someone to help me. In fact, i called from inside the home Depot to get a sales person. Sales person said that I must pay for the installer to come over the house to measure. Paid $50 deposit and the installer showed up an hour late. No calls for over 2 weeks. Called home Depot for estimate. Received an estimate with inaccurate window counts. Called home Depot to resubmit. No estimate uptodate. Called Home Depot, sales person said that the installer quit. They have to send another installer to come and measure again. No one ever contacted for one month. Called home Depot again and the person said "sorry" I asked for my deposit back and went elsewhere.
