Just got mulch delivered to my house, looks good and will see how it holds up

Great place to get firewood! Great value, friendly service and the firewood was loaded into the trailer for us. Will definitely be back for more!
-
The quality of the mulch was outstanding. And the way the team spread it in our many flower plots was so well done.

They have a bunch of kids working. Don't have a clue what they are doing. One kid says he's worked there 5 years he's 18. Another says 8 Years and he's 22 child labor laws. There mulch has garbage in it. Go elsewhere.

On time stacked wood correctly
Men were very professional -
Can your drivers please stop cutting off cars on Normantown Rd? Going from 45 down to 15 when one of those blue trucks turns right infront of your car is pretty ridiculous.. happens regularly.
-
They did an outstanding job in removing a tree in a difficult area. Power lines were close and could not use a bucket truck. They figured is out and brought it down safely.

Fair price....wood was delivered and stacked very neatly where I asked. Would definitely recommend them to anyone needing good burning and nicely cut pieces of wood. Thank you Piper and Sons!

Steve and Ron put a tree in our front yard and it looks beautiful! The tree looks better than any other on the block. They knew what they were talking about and were able to explain the differences in trees we may want to plant. We would highly recommend these guys!

We picked up a 1/2 face cord today and the wood is hissing and barely burning. In the past, our previous suppliers wood burned great at a lesser cost. We will not be going back for wet, subpar wood.

They KILLED my river birch tree. The tree is 60 ft tall, and 16 years old, and dead in my front yard. They killed my river birch tree and will not take responsibility for it. Since last summer when it was healthy and thriving, and this spring, when I had them prune it, it all of a sudden died. When I first called to report that it wasn't budding, they did send the estimator out, who was reluctant to accept responsibility, but who did say that they ought to do something for me. Since then I have sent an email, left a message with a receptionist and left 2 voicemails with Steve Piper, and no one has returned my messages over a period of 2 weeks. When the estimator was sent out, he even said that he couldn't see any other environmental reason why that tree died. He asked me to call Nicor to make sure that there were no underground gas leaks. I called them as soon as he left, and Nicor showed up within 45 minutes, proceeded with their tests, and predictably found no leaks. Before the estimator left, he said he would be in touch with me the following Monday. Over the weekend I emailed him asking if there was any fertilizer I could buy to try to promote the tree's growth. He did not respond to that email. The following Tuesday I left a message with the receptionist to have Dan give me a call back. He hasn't called. At the end of the week I left a voicemail with Steve Piper. He didn't call me back. The following week I left another message with Steve Piper. He still hasn't called back. I remember asking the workers when they were here earlier this season if they were taking too much off the tree. They said that they weren't. I have since spent two hours into researching whether or not over pruning can kill a tree. And, it absolutely can. I have not dumped anything on my property. There are no arboreal diseases. There were do signs of rot, or dying. There is no infestation. The only thing that happened to this tree is that I allowed this company to prune it. And it is now dead, standing 60ft tall in my front yard. And they have quit communicating with me. And I am searching for a recourse.

When this company learns to treat our seniors with respect and kindness, I'll consider using.
Until then.... they're not getting my business. -
Steve Piper and Sons delivered my mulch this morning. Nice and clean, no rocks or big pieces of wood. Not blocking driveway or side walk. Good job!

I can't say enough about the crew that took down my 40 year old tree. On time, personal, professional, friendly, got a long well as a crew. Hard working, cleaned up properly, always engaged with a smile. Steve Piper is fortunate to have these guys in their employ! Give them my thanks for a dangerous and difficult job well done!

I'm glad that we chose Steve Piper & Sons for our tree work. Having just moved into the home the trees had been neglected for years. The crews showed up on time and worked miracles on all three trees we had trimmed up. The yard was cleaned and the crews were courteous and fun to watch. Safety was a big focus during the entire process. I'd recommend them!!!

Rather rude on the phone when trying to determine a window for delivery. Called them several times and was given impression I would be in morning, morning came and passed called and was told it would be right after lunch, which came and went as well, called one last time and was told they would be here before 4:30PM. That too has come and passed, no call, no update if my mulch is arriving at all today. They were prompt to call me the day before to let me know they were charging my credit card though for my order of mulch. Won’t ever be ordering from them again not worth the aggravation or time spent trying to get a time from them on delivery. Window to them is 7:30-4:30 which they can’t even hit that...

Great prices on mulch. Free delivery if you are in a surrounding subdivision

We are giving one star to Steve Piper and Sons not only for the poor quality of the crabapple tree we purchased but also because of the customer service involved since that initial tree purchase and planting of June 2020. We chose Piper and Sons after receiving several other estimates for an ornamental tree in our front yard. The reason we chose Piper and Sons was due to their reputation.
The planting date was mid June of 2020. It was a very hot day and our tree delivery was late afternoon. The tree looked awful after being on that truck for some length of time. We mentioned that to the planting crew during their work. They said just keep the tree watered. We immediately took pictures of its condition and kept watering over the next several weeks. We continued to call their office along with sending pictures of the damaged tree. We arranged for a follow up inspection at that time and the arborist, when questioned about the possibility of apple scab, said it might have it and they would be out to check the tree in the fall. Meanwhile, we kept following their watering instructions.
In the fall, the tree looked atrocious and upon the arborist’s return, it was stated we would have to wait until spring. Since that time, we have contacted their office and upon them sending another arborist…their responding e-mail to us states the reason it is losing all of its leaves is due to apple scab disease.
It has been 13 months, and Piper and Sons has refused to work with us on a resolution to this problem. We feel the tree was diseased from its very first day and should never have been planted.
We are so very disappointed in Steve Piper and Sons! -
I usually order a cord of wood each year but this year I only ordered a face cord. The guy who i usually get wood from had some health troubles so I called Piper and Sons. This will be the last time I do that. I have had 5 fires so far and that results are horrible. This wood is NOT seasoned like they say on their website. If you do not constantly have a fire source the wood immediately flames out. My wood is stored under cover and had never been wet since delivered. Sure they delivered the wood and the quantity i asked for but it will not be usefull for another year.

Customer service was great, however, I will be purchasing my wood from a different supplier going forward. I purchased half a cord of wood last week. This wood will NOT catch nor burn no matter what we tried. It cracked and hissed the entire time it was in our fireplace. I find it hard to believe this wood is seasoned. If so, it’s wet from last weeks storm and should not have been sold. Extremely disappointing considering the cost.

Got a quote from Piper & Sons for pruning/trimming of two moderate size maples giving too much shade to back of house & deck. Liked the price and was scheduled for 'sometime in late March.' Was called March 23 and asked if they could come do the work in about an hour. Fortunately, I was home and flexible , so I said YES.
BIG MISTAKE. They showed up with 9 guys who quickly diced and sliced off the branches of the lower limbs, but didn't touch the canopy of the tree at all. So still too much shade - no real trimming back was happening except near the chimney. They started to pack up and I told them to get back and finish the job 'as quoted' - start pruning back the outer branches. The supervisor told me 'we don't shape trees' . . . despite the fact it states on their web site: "Steve Piper & Sons, Inc. has been trimming and shaping ornamental trees for over 30 years." I said 'Well, you're gonna shape these trees!'
Things got ridiculous quickly. That supervisor struggled to use a pole shear to lop off some outer branches, while all the rest of the crew looked on and laughed at him, but not a one of them tried to help. Then I took the pole from him, climbed up my own ladder (they didn't have one !) and started trimming. The rest of the crew left and a second crew chief finally took over the pole shear and did about a third of the job that remained to be done. Then they all left. What a clown show!
A couple weeks later, I bought a 14' pole shear for $50, rented a 14' ladder and finished the job myself. I had complained to Piper & Sons management about how unprofessional their crew was and I feel the job, as quoted, was not completed. He said he was sorry, and discounted the invoice by 10%. Big deal - paid for my new pole shear, I guess.
If you need a tree cut down, I'm sure these guys can do it fine. But if you need something done with a little more finesse and a lot more professionalism, better call someone else.
