Home Services reviews in Skokie, Illinois

The most unprofessional service I have ever seen. My lawn looks terrible. They burned the entire lawn, Put a spike through the sprinkling system, Never return calls and today my lawn was left unfinished. I have been very patient hoping this situation can be resolved but my call still has not been returned. If I could post photos I would.

They did our yard maintenance and snow removal for about a year and were nice and reliable. However, I would not recommend hiring them to do anything beyond basic maintenance, such as sod or fixing grass.

I hired V&J to completely redo my front and back yard landscaping. Work included tearing out existing plants, rototilling, placement of river rock, sodding, plantings, installation of new edging, and mulching. They did a great job with all aspects of the job. I appreciated how Peter showed up both days and pitched in with his crew. I would definitely hire V&J again.

We have worked with V&J for many years! They are wonderful responsive fairly priced and do amazing work! I recommend them all the time to friends and family! Lovely family business!

I needed a few parts for an ancient Toro snowblower, and V&J had the parts in stock and without any crazy markups. There was a bolt that they weren't able to get, but they found me a replacement that worked perfectly.
I'll happily return when I need parts or service next time. -
They have been maintaining my mower and snow blower. They start first pull every time.
Quick, and inexpensive. -
I spoke with the owner about repairing my old snowblower. He was brutally honest with me and recommended that I didn't put any money into it. He felt it was not worth it. Instead he recommended buying a newer model... And actually gave me a model number that he recommended. If I ever need any work on my snowblower I would definitely recommend this business!

As an owner operator I’d like my repairs done quickly. Vicente and his boys never fail to impress me on their timing with repairs. I’ve taken 3 units the past 2 seasons and every time I get it repaired in a day or a few hours. Been to other “repair “ shops and they keep your equipment for up to 6 weeks, because they never have parts in stock! Thanks V&J!

I used these landscapers for the last few years. They never did a great job, but they were cheap. This year they completely ruined my grass and have raised their prices. I think they put grass killer instead of fertilizer down. When my husband spoke with the landscaper he suggested the same theory and said we need new sod. After I canceled my service, they came two weeks later and cut it even shorter and left bald patches in the grass.

Our weekly grass maintenance, spring/fall cleanups--both great. Very reliable and the guys do a nice job. We also have our snow blower picked up every fall for a tune up. We couldn't be happier with V and J!

I own a landscaping business myself but I frequently purchase material, equipment from VandJ as well as getting equipment repairs from their team. Good family business, lots of my other family members who also do landscaping go to VandJ. Highly recommend.

Really superior service. Highly recommend.

Excellent service-Great service! In addition to the lawn mowing, they also did a removal of an old pond in backyard. Recently the Gutter cleaning service was done promptly after the request. Thanks very much!

We have used V and J for many years. Maria at the office is always so helpful with requests I make. Someone is always available at the office for communication. The workmen are quick and thorough. No complaints. Highly recommended.
(They also offer snow removal and were reliable during those months as well). -
Super helpful! I love their lawn seeds you can buy by the scoop

Poor quality service and rude costumer service. The first year they serviced our lawn, they were good but not reliable. They would come whenever and not on set days. This made it difficult to make sure my yard was clean of dog mess before mowing. Multiple times they left my gates open and one of our side gates does not have any viability from any doors or windows and this allowed my dogs to get loose because they had removed the metal rod keeping the gate shut despite the other side yard having a working gate. They also damaged my property when servicing the property last summer because they simply ripped my no dig fencing out of the ground and bent it causing me to have to replace it at my cost.
Every year I ask to have my gutters cleaned in the fall, every year they charged me and failed to do so. Other years I over looked it because it wasn’t so bad but we had gutter covers installed and she insisted that I was the liar and I’m nothing but trouble of always calling and complaining that the gutters weren’t done. I’m simply asking for the service to be completed and the woman wouldn’t let me get a word in edge wise. Also, wouldn’t you think if this happens year single year - that perhaps this is an employee negligence issue and a quality control issue? She said she would be taking me off the schedule for guttering cleaning. Fine, I would actually rather be taken off the entire schedule than continue to pay for completely subpar service from a company who hired combative and rude costumer service people who’s voices sound like they never put down a cigarette in the last 50 years. She told me good luck finding another landscaper who will take on my house, which seems completely tasteless when I’m far from asking anyone to service an estate. This is a small postage stamp yard less than 500sqft. -
I had V&J Landscaping do a spring clean up job for me last week and the yard looks great! I'm giving 4 stars because Peter takes forever to respond to emails. I asked for a quote to do more work and never heard back.

We have been VJ customers for many years. VJ has earned our loyalty by taking excellent care of our lawn. They are dependable and always responsive to our needs. Their workers are professional, friendly, and very good at what they do. We are happy to recommend VJ to anyone looking for lawn services.

We've done several projects with V&J over the last 3 years and are at the point where we're needing to find someone new. They have a pattern of not showing up during the date range they say they will, then not completing the agreed-upon work, and then not coming back to finish it. it's happened 3 times now for fall and spring clean-ups as well as cutting back some larger bushes we scheduled with to do. Most recently, they broke two of our larger sewer access caps with their heavy machinery and then when I called to get them to come by and replace them (they are a larger size, and hard to find, and I can't even get the remaining shards out of the access pipe anyway), they refused. I spoke with Maria, who seems to be their front-line phone person, and she said it wouldn't make sense for them to come out to replace the caps because they would "lose money on the job." I guess it doesn't matter that we've spent around $5K with them over the last 3 years on a few larger projects. She also claimed that it's just not the culture of small businesses to go back and fix their mistakes. As someone who grew up working in my parents' small business, I was appalled by that statement.
I gave them a chance to make it right; Maria said she would pass my request on to the owner. But it's now been 3 weeks and I haven't gotten a call back. In the end, they're not worth the trouble and we're going with someone else who can stand by their service and their mistakes. -
I worked with Peter to have turf installed for a playground set. His expertise helped me pick the right material. The team was on time, professional and very good about completing the project to perfection. The price was also competitive. You can’t go wrong if you pick these guys. I get numerous compliments on how nice the turf is. I’m very pleased with the project. I look forward to working with them on other projects in the future.
