Constraction reviews in West Des Moines, Iowa

My wife and I have worked with several contractors over the past three years to remodel and refurbish the interior and exterior of our house. We’ve been fortunate in our choices of service providers and are pleased with most everyone we’ve worked with. But without doubt, one of our very best choices was Red House Remodeling who helped us plan and remodel most of our first floor.
The kitchen and dining room was our biggest project, and thanks to Red House was an absolute success. The process they follow in presenting design options and planning every detail virtually guarantees the outcome. We spent a good deal of time upfront working with Jenna, one of the staff interior designers who walked us through several design options and then through every choice of products and materials for the project—from cabinets and counters to fixtures and switch plates. Not only did Jenna help us consider details we’d have never thought of on our own, she also offered great advice that helped cut through the overwhelming number of options to make choices that worked well together. Ben and Jenna then worked with us to wrangle the whole project down to the most important features and options at a price with which we were satisfied.
With a complete schedule and set of plans that covered all the structural, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and finish work details, Ben and his crew put it all in motion and transformed a run-of-the-mill kitchen and dining room layout into just the functional space we were looking for. Ben brought in a structural engineer to verify all the needed underlying changes to ensure the job came off without a hitch—and that’s just what happened. We knew just what had to be done from the start; no mid-project surprises or compromises.
We were impressed not only with Ben’s crew, but also with the great subcontractors they work with. And we appreciated Ben’s active management style and oversight of the work. We always knew where the project was at and what came next. I was especially grateful for all the precautions taken for dust control and the effort made to keep the area clean throughout the construction.
In the end we have a gorgeous kitchen/dining room finished on time and on budget—and most importantly, no complaints! Following the kitchen, we worked with Red House to remodel our living room, too, with similarly fantastic results. Throughout both projects and since completion, Ben and company have been very responsive and accommodating. We’ll be taking on the second floor in a few years, and there’s no doubt who we’ll call. -
We have used Red House Remodeling for two major projects on our home – upstairs hall bathroom and our kitchen and dining room. The projects were about 3 years apart and we came back to Red House for the more extensive kitchen and dining room project after the success of the upstairs hall bathroom. Ben is very organized in assessing the project and communicating the details. He also provides realistic expectations and guidance on the project to stay on budget and achieve our remodeling goals. The Red House team has a dedicated designer to help you with your project and picking out all the elements – floors, cabinets, counters, fixtures, etc. Our designer on both projects – Jenna – spent time with us at our home, at their office, and at various stores reviewing options and discussing pros and cons. She was very helpful in getting us the overall look we wanted in both cases and offered her opinions. She was also patient throughout the design process, allowing us to discuss and consider multiple options. One thing I especially appreciated is their recommendation that new elements can blend well with existing ones (like our new wood floors blending with our oak trim). Once all the details were settled and demolition began, Ben provided a detailed schedule for the project and stayed on schedule and communicated any major changes to that. With the bathroom remodel, the plumber accidentally damaged the new floor and Ben made sure this was replaced at no charge to us and tried to keep the schedule interruption to a minimum. With the kitchen remodel, we really had no major delays or issues come up. Ben and crew were very helpful in making sure our old cabinets could be salvaged for Habitat for Humanity Restore – which is a great way to keep used items out of the landfills and help low income homeowners looking to remodel. This also eliminated our need to have a dumpster in our driveway for the duration of the project. Ben’s crew and subcontractors were polite and generally very tidy in their construction process and accommodating to our requests through the kitchen remodel. Ben even delayed the demolition of our dining room at our request so we could have a bit more room for a couple extra weeks. Overall, we have had two great experiences with the Red House Remodeling team – from the initial consultation, thorough and dedicated design process, organized and timely demolition and construction, and follow up on the checklist of wrap up items – the team does an excellent job for their clients. We have plans to use them again in the future.

We worked with Red House Remodeling for a kitchen remodel and updating our laundry room. The kitchen remodel involved removing a wall in our home and expanding our kitchen by several feet and updating our fire place. We updated flooring through a large part of our first floor. We also updated cabinets and flooring in our laundry room and removed cabinets to do hanging rods so we could air dry more clothing. I would highly recommended Red House. I was incredibly impressed with the way their organized our project and waiting to begin the project until all materials were in hand. I loved their designer who helped us make choices within our budget and to fit our design desire. I appreciated their calendaring system where I knew who would be in our home each day and what they would be working on. They were incredibly clean and meticulous in their work. The finished our project right on their projected time frame. They did whatever they could to minimize any living impact due to work being done. We did not have one single surprise through the project. They were excellent communicators and I always felt listened to from the very beginning to the very end. There is no question we would select them again for our next project and highly recommend them for any project you are considering.

My husband and I recently had the outside of our home, updated. New siding, paint, windows, the whole shebang!
Ben and his crew were amazing. From the process of picking out siding, paint colors and ordering new garage doors, the final product is absolutely what I envisioned! We’ve used Redhouse remodeling in the past for our basement and know the type of work ethic Ben and his team have. We would recommend them hands-down for any type of home remodeling/renovation that you might have!

Travis came out and installed my invisible dog fence system today. He was on time and the wire install created almost no visible damage to the lawn. Thanks. It’s been a great experience.

Andy did a great job of educating us on fence options…very professional. Travis installed our fence and did a great job of explaining the process. Very happy with our experience thus far.

The company installed an invisible fence for us. They provided 3 training sessions for our 2 German shepherds. Andy was a delight to work with and most importantly, our dogs have responded well! We would highly recommend purchasing from them!

We love our fence and so does our dog Sam… it has made a world of difference…everyone from customer service, to the gentleman who installed and Tony who did the training were amazing! Thank you!

Travis did a wonderful job installing our invisible fence at both our location and our daughters house. He worked with us on training our dogs and was great to work with.

We have had the Invisible Fence product for over four years and the only regret I have is that we didn't do it 20 years ago with our other dogs. We can leave our beloved dog out in the yard unattended until she wants to come back in. About a month ago the back-up battery started beeping and when I asked the customer service to help me with it they told me what to do without making a house call which would've cost me $50. So thanks very much extremely satisfied customer.

Invisible Fence Des Moines is the best in town! Always a friendly voice on the phone, quick scheduling, and excellent technicians! We had Christopher this week putting new backyard line and he was fantastic! Thank you!

The process was very quick and well scheduled/communicated. Tony and Austin were both great to work with! I love that my dogs have more freedom now!

Christopher was our installer and trainer. Wonderful job on some pretty challenging terrain. Less than one day and our pup is already respecting the border.

We have three dogs and had been considering invisible fence for awhile. We finally decided to do it and I am so happy we did. Every time someone came out, they were very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. One of our dogs wasn't reacting to the collar and wasn't being contained in the invisible fence so I called and someone came out the same day to bump up the collar. It still wasn't working so instead of switching to the max containment collar, they changed the prongs on the collar and it is now working appropriately. The dogs love being outside and are able to run around the yard without us being outside and they can stay out however long they want. It's a little pricey, but if you compare it to an actual fence, it's very reasonable. We live in an area that has a decent amount of woods so a real fence wasn't really an option. I would recommend this company to anyone considering a fence. My dogs don't go near the perimeter and training them was very easy. Overall we are very satisfied!!

I DONT RECOMMEND!!!! At first I thought I was a cool concept. However. If I could put pictures of the burns and holes in my dogs neck I would. The vet said the collar was most likely malfunctioning from it getting wet in the snow. My dog has 4 or 5 holes in her neck and they won’t even cover the vet bill. Never once when going over this did it get mentioned.the lady told us because it’s rare that it will happen that’s why it didn’t get brought up when we called on the way to the vet. It is rare they should still warn their customers and give them signs to watch for. Now my dog needs more follow up appointments and this is all out of pocket. If I could give them zero stars I would. NOT TO MENTION THE VET ALSO SAID THE SHOCK AND CAUSE THEIR LUNGS TO FILL WITH FLUID… the collar is still the same way they fitted it to her and the collar comes off at night

Invisible Fence of Central Iowa ---- DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!! If I could give them zero stars, I would. We purchased Invisible Fence in 2008, from Invisible Fence of Central Iowa. We have spent thousands of dollars in the initial installation, dog training, landscape rocks (to keep dogs out of landscaping, etc). The system is supposed to have a guarantee of performance or money back and a lifetime warranty on equipment. This is all a joke. They will take your money and when you start having problems, they will do NOTHING as long as the collar works on their system in the office. In 2020, our six year old dog's collar started failing (did not consistently give a correction). When I took the collar (that was supposed to have a lifetime warranty) in, I was told that it was dirty in where the battery goes (I had already cleaned it), she cleaned it, tested it on her machine and said it works fine. I took it back home and within 17 days the collar quit working again. I called the office and was told to clean it again and then monitor it and document which I did. Today, after the collar has failed ten times (that I know of), I took the collar in to the office. After messing with it, she got it to work and said that it works on her machine so she could not warranty it. She also stated the correction was set low and so she needed to increase it. No acknowlegment that the setting had been fine for six years or that when the collar is NOT working (which is why we are having trouble in the first place) it doesn't matter what the setting is. Could I give them one more chance? What if on that one more chance, my dog is not so lucky and gets hit on the road.

Our experience was flawless. Tony did a great job with our Merci, she love him!! Now our Jack Russell has all the exercise she needs. I recommend Invisible Fence to anyone wanting to give that extra care to their pets!
-
The invisible fence install and dog training was done on schedule, on time, and professionally. Chris did a good job training my Golden Pup to know where not to cross! She can now go out without supervision and enjoy the whole lot and I'm highly confident she will not escape.

I love our Invisible Fence and the freedom it gives to my dog. I don't worry about her and we get to play and fetch without fear of her getting away. Travis was here today to do a wire hide and found a few places that needed some help over winter. I appreciate him making sure my dog is safe!
