Constraction reviews in Olathe, Kansas

We used Shack Built to remodel a long neglected bathroom. Derick was straight forward and practical in his approach while Cara helped guide our choices. Then Scott made it reality. You guys are the best.

I had been wanting to remodel my kitchen and master bathroom for several years. After meeting Derick and his team I decided to pull the trigger and hire Shack Built. The transparency and professionalism of the team was outstanding. They were easy to work with and adapted to items I wanted to change along the way. Derick, Scott, Marty and Cara were truly a top notch team! I will definitely use them again!

The Shack Built team was incredible! Our expectations were continually managed throughout the process and everything was done in a timely manner. Our designer, Cara, was by and far amazing! She listened and really got to know our style and we couldn't be happier with her design and the execution. All who worked on the project were kind and professional and very personable. We were able to go about our daily routines without feeling major imposition (there's always some unavoidable imposition, of course). Marty was a hoot and one of the best project managers we've ever encountered. The whole project was beyond our expectations, from start to finish. We would recommend Shack Built to anyone considering a home improvement project.

We have been very pleased with the entire design process with Shack Built. From the first meeting, they took time to find out what our vision was and how we lived our lives to design the best kitchen for our use. Through drawings and renderings, we were able to visualize the outcome and they were very accommodating with any changes that we made. Their team was instrumental in helping with the decision making of cabinets, countertops, appliances, etc. and their vendor contacts were all exceptional. Everyone we have dealt with during this process has been professional, knowledgeable and willing to go above and beyond to ensure we got the design we wanted. We would highly recommend Shack Built to anyone looking for a design build company to work with.

Dream Project Becomes Reality

We have always dreamed of having a water feature (spa or pool) integrated into our two story deck and Shack Built has brought this dream to life. When we contacted Shack Built about our project, they introduced us to a designer with the appropriate background to design our dream deck. Following an iterative design period we broke ground in the spring and the two story, 1,500 square foot deck with integrated swim spa was finished in late summer. It was a massive project involving numerous trades that was turnkey managed by Shack Built. We are grateful for the innovative solutions that Shack Built developed to overcome the myriad difficulties presented by our sloped backyard and constructing a deck capable of encapsulating a 1,200 gallon water feature. The result is a beautiful, one-of-a-kind structure that we have been enjoying ever since its completion. We especially have been enjoying the lower deck, which is completely screened in, has a waterproof ceiling with fans and lighting, and has become a wonderful extension of our living space. We are grateful for the experience with Shack Built throughout this project. We had a project manager that managed the day to day details of the project and the business owner, Derick Shackleford, was always available throughout the process to support the construction, and they both ensured the successful completion of all the little details that make up our dream project. Thank you Shack Built!

To the entire team at Shack Built, thank you for a job well done. Your design and execution were excellent and the project was finished on time. As a client, that’s very important. Thank you Derick for heading up an amazing team. I would highly recommend.

Converted 1950s bathroom to updated, age in place bathroom with glam! Also added new single unit washer/dryer on main floor. Love look and function of new bathroom. Crew great to work with and listened to my concerns. Answered my questions as they arose. Love outcome of remodel.

Derick is not only one of the most quality humans I've ever met, but also one of the most skilled craftsman in his trade. As a photographer and designer I've very much enjoyed working alongside Derick and his projects to see what he brings to life! I highly recommend him to anyone!

I worked with Shack Built for a display plinth for a public art work at the new KCI Airport. We mostly communicated remotely and they were prompt in replying to my inquiries and sending over structural designs. It was a several months long project because of my schedule but they met me at every step. They installed, prepped and finished the plinth so that I could go in and set the sculptures. Overall a great experience!

Shack Built LLC completed a renovation on our dining room, living room and piano room. Cara has a great eye and did a wonderful job of helping us find exactly what we wanted. Derick had great ideas for the project that we never would have thought of. The finished product far exceeded our expectations. Great communication! Great crew! Next up: the kitchen. See you soon Shack Built!

The entire ShackBuilt team was so professional and great to work with. They absolutely delivered the project on time and within budget. They did a great job cleaning up at the end of day and communicating expectations along the way! Would highly recommend.

After researching and speaking with many contractors in the area, we decided to work with Shack Built on our basement finish. We chose them based on Derick's upfront and transparent initial conversations with us.

Working with Brett on a daily basis throughout the project provided us the ability to quickly address any issue that arose and make decisions promptly. Our concerns and questions were addressed as we went along appropriately. We had a few specific requests that the team was able to handle without an issue. Their flexibility and willingness to adapt to our requests made this large project go smoothly, on time, and on budget.

We really enjoyed working with Shack Built and look forward to the next project!

We recently completed a project with Shack Built as the General Contractor. As a sub-contractor, we work with many many different GCs throughout the city. I can say that this project went smoothly and without a hitch. The on-site superintendent, Chris, was informative, communicated very well with his wants and needs and set obtainable goals throughout the project.
It makes it much easier to complete a project safely, cleanly and on time when a respectful and fun work environment is established from the beginning of the job.
If you are looking to have a residential remodel done, I would highly recommend them.
Thank you Shack Built for the opportunity and we hope to work with you again in the very near future!

I used Shack Built to finish my basement. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I've worked on commercial construction jobs many times, so I know my way around a project. I was extremely pleased with the whole process from my initial meeting with Derick, to the design help they worked with me on, to my foreman, Marty. They treated my home with respect while they were here. They were extremely communicative, from budget use, to the daily schedule. I knew what was going on every step of the way. I will definitely think of Shack Built for any future jobs I may have.

For 13 years we lived with the tiniest least functional kitchen. A dear friend recommended Shackbuilt to remodel it for us and it was not only a gorgeous result but a thoroughly pleasant experience. There was daily communication in regard to progress and the actually came in slightly ahead of schedule. We couldn’t be more happy and if remodeling your kitchen or bathroom is in your future contact them right away! They’re a wonderful team and we thank you very much Derrick, Cara and Scott

We recently completed a large home renovation with Shack Built and we are very happy with how everything turned out. From day one, Shack Built provided consistent communication and guidance in regards to expectations, timelines and the renovation process. Cara was always accommodating to our schedules for meetings, and helped us work through an overwhelming amount of design options with thoughtfulness and design insight.

Once the construction job actually began, our project manager Chris was fantastic. The amount of times he went above and beyond what was expected showed us that he valued not only us as customers, but also the work he does.

We plan to work with the Shack Built team again.

After researching remodelers, I knew Shack Built would be the right choice to update my primary bath/bedroom plus 2 bedrooms and they exceeded my expectations. At the initial exploratory meeting with Derick and Cara, they ‘listened’, asked in depth questions and they promptly provided a proposal addressing all areas of concern. Once the project started, Derick provided a very detailed checklist of the renovation process for the working crews. Kudos to Josh my site project manager who ensured all tasks flowed according to schedule and keeping me abreast of any changes not yet reflected on the portal. Cara’s design choices were ‘uniquely’ and amazingly beautiful, I am so pleased to finally have a comfortable suite. If you are looking to make updates to your home, I highly recommend Shack Built for your next remodeling or renovation project.

Best decision I made in 2025 was to remodel my kitchen & pantry! If you are considering doing the same, don't wait. Putting the job in the right hands in the first place is paramount. Derick, Cara, and the Shackbuilt team were awesome. Your only regret will be wondering what took you so long to pull the trigger. This is the year - do it!

ShackBuilt remodeled the Great American Bank branch in De Soto, Kansas. Derick and his team developed a genuinely nice design and plan for an older building in downtown De Soto. They made the process from planning to completing quite simple and timely. Derick and the subs worked around the bank’s schedule, working on a few Saturdays as well to not interrupt our employees and customers. Their communication during the renovation was excellent and the final product looked great!

Great customer service! Jacob from garden and lawn section was very helpful and had a great attitude.

We had 2 bathrooms remodeled by CMP. Love them both. They came out great. Everyone was easy to deal with and were responsive to our visions for them. Chad stood out in doing the tile work. Thanx to all at CMP Construction. T. & J.
