Home Services reviews in Baltimore, Maryland

Repairman came out said they couldn't clean my vents because my furnace filer was dirty. LIES. My furnace filer was just changed the day before you came out. They refuse to clean my vents unless I spend an additional $350.00 for filer +$99 their vent cleaning fee + $15 disposal fee. Typical Bait and Switch at it's best
Don't waste your time with SEARS!! HORRIBLE -
This special offer $139 vent cleaning is a total scam. The special of $139 for 17 vents is an advertisement to get in the house. Then they tell you they will have to clean your blower and coil for additional $800. They refused to clean the vents unless I do these other services too. Interestingly, their office doesn’t tell you that furnace cleaning is a prerequisite for cleaning the vents before we request for an appointment
They ask you to spend around $950 total, it just isn’t worth their time to clean the vents for $139. Don’t fall for this scam. -
I wanted the vents cleaned for $99. They said the furnace needed to cleaned for $800. It seems clear after reading reviews that they do this to everyone. I asked if they could just clean the vents at the quoted price, and they said the SEARS POLICY was to not clean the vents without cleaning the furnace. So it was a way to ensure they got $899.
I then called a local cleaner who quoted me $300 for cleaning the vents and said they wouldn’t have to look at the furnace... -
Like all other reviewers, I would also give 0 stars but, I will give 1 for being on time and for the one worker who was polite. My boyfriend scheduled an air duct cleaning and was quoted at just under $200 for 14 vents. The guys called and showed up on time- great start. They came in and saw the main unit and said there was a lot of drywall dust and the whole unit needed to be cleaned and that it would cost extra. Ok... He went upstairs to write a quote and found out it would be $1900!!! WHAT! I called my boyfriend since he was the one who spoke to them and the man HUNG UP ON HIM when he said he didn't want to pay $1900 for the service. He was beyond rude and began complaining about coming to my house... um, that was your job sir. If your company had given us a proper quote and not been a thousand and some hundred dollars off, we wouldn't have scheduled the cleaning. I went online and read how Sears has scammed homeowners with their air duct cleanings and has been on the news. BEWARE

Was quoted $154 for duct cleaning on the phone and when the technicians came out they estimated $2369 (blower motor $875, coil cleaning $789, air duct deodorizer $675) and that was without adding UV lighting. Said it was due to mold. I had just had my furnace maintainence done by Sear Home Warranty (very reputable company) the week before and had no mention of a mold issue. I told them to leave. I called a company I used in the past and they confirmed I do not have a major mold issue. They took care of the job for $350. I had only tired Sear Duct Cleaning due to "special" they were advertising. But they just do that to get in your house and do a higher "estimate" to rip you off.

Like the other reviews said, I am extremely upset with the bait and switch tactic used by this company. My husband got a quote for $100 to clean our 10 vents, but when the service guys came they told us it would be $1,100 to clean the vents and the furnace! $1,000 more than what we were quoted!! How is this legal?! My husband told them no, we won’t be paying that so they came down to $900....My husband agreed to that price (I wasn’t happy about it) and paid them because he felt obligated to get the service since they came out to our condo. I will never refer this company to anyone and it is now my cautionary tale of why you should NEVER use Sears.
On a side note, I will say the service guys were very nice and wore booties over their shoes. When they could tell my husband didn’t like the price they kept pointing to their paper and saying they had to follow their quote guidelines. So, I don’t think it was the service guys fault, it’s the company “guidelines” that are causing the bait and switch on price. -
This business is not legit. Don’t use them. They are liars and just interested in getting to your house, so they can slay you financially. The technicians are not licensed as they claim. Their Business model works this way. You contact them because it’s sears. They will tell you $199 for cleaning the vent for 20 vents. They won’t come on time or on the day they said they will. When they will come they will open your furnace because they know there will be some dirt there. Then they will ask for $800 before they will start the work. Vents can’t be cleaned because their certification from the county demands that blower area needs to be cleaned first. Looks like they are being trained in a medical school. ☠️. Your will tell them bye bye and get out. This is plain and simple ripoff.

I wish that I could give negative stars.
I scheduled the $140 air duct cleaning service and when the techs showed up they walked into my house with no boot covers on and left mud on my rug. Before we even talked about the number of vents and their locations they asked where the furnace was located, so I showed them where it was and one of them proceeded to open the panels to inspect it. My furnace is just a few years old and was serviced just a few months ago. After their quick inspection they told me that the fan and coil had to be cleaned and that would cost me $950.00!! They then proceeded to show me a photo of the fan that barely had any dust on it. I asked how long to would take to clean the fan and coil and the tech responded 1-1.5 hours. I could have my lawyer come out to clean it at those rates! I asked how long to clean all the air ducts and the answer I got was 3-4 hours. So, $140.00 and 3-4 hours to clean all the air ducts and $950.00 for 1-1.5 hours to clean the fan and coil that was already clean. Hmmmm, now I see how you make your money. I asked if they could clean the ducts and not clean the furnace since they were here. The tech said that they couldn't clean the air ducts unless they cleaned my already clean furnace because all of the non-existent dust would be blown back up into the air ducts and then I wouldn't be happy with their service (Bit late for that!!). I just looked at both of them shaking my head and asked them to leave immediately. Talk about bait and switch!! Do not waste you time and money on these tempting deals from rip off outfits like this. -
The company is a joke and a scam. We set up an appointment to have our carpets cleaned today in our empty house. We were given a price by phone for a cleaning. Technician's arrived unprofessional in appearance showing underwear and someone smelled horrible. Apparently price quoted was not accurate. They said to properly clean the charges changed and suggested we throw in a tip to do a great job. Hell NO!
They basically filled the machine with water and no cleaning solution because that was extra. While filling the machine from the kitchen faucet they saturated our new kitchen floor and cabinets. Technician's were not fazed by the damage they were causing. I called customer service to let them know my concerns. They are just as useless and unprofessional. I was "disconnected" a number of times and was told they would look into the situation. Maybe they would look harder when I make a stop payment.
Why would I call to have my carpets cleaned if I knew I was going to pay over $300 to only have water thrown on the carpet ? Bottom line stay away from the company. -
The air duct cleaning team lead by Mr Calvin Johnson who came was highly unprofessional. From the time he arrived at my home he stated clearly he will not be doing any work for the little money i paid. I had booked the 10 vent cleaning with dryer duct special for $120. He said he dont work unless its in the thousands. He proceeded to do up a quote for all kinds of deodorizers, UV light in the return system etc etc. Oh and of course he turned to the dusty Furnace trick but i didn't budge because it wasn't that filthy. Then he went to my AC coils which wasn't that dirty. I had them all cleaned 2 yrs prior. Anyway i agreed to have them re cleaned as they weren't exactly spotless. Automatically $120 became $3500. I told him no friggin way. We went back and forth. And settled on 1500.
Part of which went to him directly as his TIP and the rest to sears.
1 week later i had to call them back in to reclean my furnace and ducts as it was still dusty. Also they hadn't completed all i paid for.
Paid for lifetime filters i was to receive in August. As if today nothing. The worst customer service. Impossible to get a manager or one to actually return your call. Have been calling about my filter for 2 months now no call back. Now they flatly refuse to take my call.
If you don't want to be SCAMED don't call Sears . -
This is literally the worst company I have ever used. Not only were they late and unprofessional but they told me they were sending someone out on two different days. On the second day that they were supposed to arrive for a recleaning because the first cleaning was so bad. Vent are still dusty and the actual disconnected a vent in my master bedroom. They had the tech call me a fight with me on the phone. After 30mins of me saying the same thing over and over and the tech trying to over speak me to say I’m wrong. They never showed. I don’t know how there still in business. I wrote this to warn everyone. Not only did a waste the money on the first cleaning but had to pay another company to fix everything the broke.

I had a similar experience as many other reviewers. They missed several air ducts in my home. The service team left dust everywhere. And I was overcharged for a furnace blowout. I tried to reach a manager on several occasions, but was told managers aren't available to take calls. We can just pass them a message. One representative didn't even get my name and number before they hung up. Definitely not a good value. Buyer beware.

scheduled our cleaning through the website first for two weeks prior they called me the next day they said sorry that schedule doesn’t work and you have to schedule you for 45 days from now in 45 days then the time arrived they said between 8 AM to 12. we called few times nobody showed up ! won’t call Sears anymore !

Signed up for duct cleaning. Company no showed the first day. After about 5 hours delays finally showed up for a duct cleaning. I signed up for $119 duct cleaning. The guy opens my furnace then quotes me $1150...says he making me a deal. Even has payment plans! Doesnt even put the furnace back together and leaves without performed the agreed work. Switched off the pilot light in his rush out of here.
This low cost duct cleaning "service" is nothing more than a bait and switch for other services over $1000. -
This place is a total scam. The special of $139 for 17 vents is just an excuse to get in the house. Then they tell you they will have to clean your blower and coil for additional $800. Even though my furnace is brand new, they refused to clean the vents unless I do these other services too. Interestingly, their office doesn’t tell you that furnace cleaning is a prerequisite for cleaning the vents.
Unless you spend around $950 total, it just isn’t worth their time to clean the vents for $139. Don’t fall for this scam. It’s a bait and switch. What a waste of time that I blocked my afternoon from work to fall for this! -
Can I give them ZERO stars!! The worst experience ever. Do NOT use them!! They will not honor the website price nor the price given over the phone when you book. They upsell you on something you don't need. They refused to clean the main duct that goes into the crawl space portion of my basement even though I told the company ahead of time about it. Said they do not go into crawl spaces. They upsold me on the cleaning and a light to kill mold. They did not perform the service as described and they cut holes in my main line without telling me first. They did not remove one single vent or intake cover. They did not clean down the vent shafts as described. It was a total scam in my opinion. They refuse to return my calls requesting to speak to a manger. DO NOT LET THEM IN YOUR HOUSE!!! I am so disappointed in the service and overwhelmed by the price. What a waist of money and a huge upset.

The person who scheduled my service was friendly, polite and just all around awesome. That should have been my first clue that things would go left lol. The day of my appointment, I received a phone call early in the morning stating that carpet cleaners would arrive hours before my appointment time. Then I was told that they didn't even work as late as my scheduled appointment time. So, I left work early to be there for the time I was told. Of course, no one should up during this time so I called and was assured they were still coming but running late. They showed up after 7 pm and I swear they did not clean my carpet. I think the guy just went over the worst areas after charging more money than I was quoted. I paid for a deep clean and protection and did not get either. He just put some vacuum lines in the carpet to make it look "nice." I went over it with my Bissell the next day and was able to get it clean. The water in the unit was dirty, so how much carpet cleaning could they have done? What a waste of money. Never again.

I confirmed carpet cleaning for 9-12 arrival the day before and arranged for someone to be present to let the technicians in. The next morning, I noticed a voicemail from 8PM the night before asking for confirmation and could not understand the two phone numbers left as the person was speaking too quickly and mumbling. I called Sears and was told no one would be coming becuase I didnt confirm. I reminded them that I did confirm when I spoke to them the day before (at which time they added $20 onto the advertised price). I was told that still no one was coming. I asked to speak to supervisor, have not heard back. I called Stanley Steamer and they are coming today between 12-5.

Scheduled an appointment for my airbnb to get an air duct cleaning and blocked off the dates so no guests could stay, and then the cleaning never happened and they told me to reschedule again. I asked if they cancel again for them to reimburse my airbnb business since it’s costing me money to have the dates blocked off for the cleaning to take place just to have it cancelled. They said no. I am now out over a hundred dollars with no service actually done. Awful customer service.

I used Sears to perform a duct cleaning at my new home. In the process, they disconnected some flexible duct from one of the blowers. The technician replaced the air filter after the cleaning and missed that the duct was disconnected.
I called to have them come repair the damage. A different tech arrived the following Monday but didn’t have the tools to do the repair and said someone else would come back the next day.
I got a call from the tech about 6pm the following day asking if they could perform the service then. I declined because it was dinner time. They said they would call the following morning but never did.
I phoned the call canter the next day and they said they wouldn’t be able to send someone out until the following week.
The service provided was very lackluster. I don’t mind mistakes, but I shouldn’t have to push so hard for them to be corrected. I suspect that if I hadn’t phoned the call center after the tech ghosted me, I would never hear from them to fix the issue they created. -
This is a very unreliable location. I had set up an appointment for Sears to come and clean my vents and dryer vent 2 weeks prior. Less than 24 hours before the appointment they changed the time slot from 8-12 to 1-5 without prior notification. Their manager Samantha who is a very arrogant and unprofessional person was more interested in canceling the appointment than re scheduling as she believed that it was not Sears job to tell about the time change prior to less than 24 hours. I had taken time off work and now it is wasted but I will never come back to this business again. Wish Sears would hire real professionals than such people.
