I will state that I have had my system serviced for years prior to this most recent appointment for both A/C and furnace successfully. This time has been so disappointing and we have now gone on to another company. I have been sitting in my house during this current winter storm in the cold, with electric heaters running everywhere, wrapped in layers of clothes, and unable to sit in my basement b/c it's easily 60 degrees down there.

Part 1 - The issue is the heat on the lower two levels of my house hasn't been working correctly. We wake up to temps in the mid to high 60s measured on the downstairs thermostat ( thermostat upstairs and a separate one on the main level) despite it being set to 72. Well, the appointment happened to be on a random day in early January with the outdoor high temp to the mid-50s, so after checking the filters and no other in-depth assessment, he set the thermostat to 75 and since the temp was climbing, the assessment was that the system was functioning appropriately. I continued to explain that the issue was at night and the system runs continuously with no increase, but rather decrease in temps in the house. My guess was an issue with the dampers (one system that splits the airflow to two different "zones"). The next morning I took a photo of the thermostat display showing set temp of 70 but measuring only 65 and texted it to the tech. No response.

Part 2- Against better judgement, I set up another appointment to further address the issue and the weather storm was forecasting to be nuts!! I explained to the nice woman whom I always speak with and set up the appointments, that it's getting really cold and my home is too large to heat with portable heaters efficiently. The appointment was set with a time range of 10a-2p with a call 1 hour before arrival when they are on the way. On the day of the appointment, I hadn't received any contact my noon so I called to confirm our time and was assured we were good. At 1:50p I called both their business phone and the techs number who I'd spoken with several times before with no answer. I left my home due to other scheduled activities. At 2:50p I received a text that they (Matthews Mechanical) were at my home; an hour after waiting all morning and early afternoon.

We got another company come in by referral of a neighbor, and they found that the circuit board that communicates btw the thermostat and the actual heating unit was malfunctioning and needs to be replaced. One of the dampers isn't getting the message AND the thermostat is telling the system to heat, but the message isn't getting to the unit. We found this out on the day the storm hit. We've been dealing with the cold with heaters and the gas fireplace to heat our 4000 sq ft home. The circuit board is being shipped to be replace in a couple of days. I can't imagine what my electricity bill is going to be this month. SMH!!

Knowledgeable, professional on time .He explains what the problem was explained my options gave me an estimate of the cost ordered the part had me up and running again in 4 day. My air conditioner fan Moter had outlived it useful life. Accurate estimate fabulous service.

Bi- annual maintenance of system. Matthews Mechanical has provided HVAC services for 13 years. Appropriate repairs have minimized crisis situations. Reasonable pricing is the norm, dependable and the highest level of expertise has been consistent and effective. The individuals with whom I have recommended Mr. Matthews have not been disappointed.
