Ernie at Metro Boston Plumbing did great work for us. He tore out our old bathtub, tile, and piping, and installed a new, jetted tub and surround, piping and fixtures, as well as some sheetrock surround. It required multiple visits, which he cheerfully did. He fixed other plumbing as well! Ernie is reliable, timely, and kept the area clean and did great work! He really went above and beyond for us. We are very pleased with Ernie's work! Thank you, Ernie, for modernizing our home!

The scope of the work Ernie did for us included: running a gas line to the attic for a new HVAC unit, repositioning gas for a new basement HVAC unit, and installing a new on-demand hot water heater. This project ended up requiring upsizing the gas line all the way back to the meter. To further complicate the job, the work was done in two phases so that our house would not have any interruption to hot water or heat. Further, as Ernie was separate from the HVAC company and the electrician, there was need to orchestrate scheduling of work around the progress made by other companies.

What went well:
- The result is that the work is all running as expected and was properly permitted
- The work was clean and tucked away to allow for finishing the basement and attic
- Ernie worked with me to phase the work such that there was no interruption to gas appliances around the house other than what we agreed could be worked around (our dryer was down for a couple days)
- When one of the gas pipe unions was a bit too loose and was leaking a little gas, Ernie responded immediately to tighten it up
- Ernie ran some gas pipe through a fairly difficult path to get from the basement to the attic

What could have been better:
- As with all good tradesmen, Ernie is busy. This combined with family circumstances meant that Ernie was not consistently responsive in trying to get work scheduled
- We could have communicated about the path of the gas pipe in the attic better so that it was located in the right spot the first time instead of having to pay to re-run it tighter to other piping
- Due to a change in the code and the need to keep the old heating system working until the attic HVAC was running, there was a miscalculation of gas pipe size that lead to an initial failing of inspection and a significant amount of re-work. In the end, Ernie made good on this such that I paid for the unanticipated scope of upsizing pipe all the way back to the meter and he ate the cost of reworking what he had already done that needed to be upsized.

Again, overall I would hire Ernie again, and in fact do anticipate enlisting his help for finishing a bathroom in the basement a year or two from now.

Ernie called back in a timely fashion and showed up on time for the install. He did excellent work and have no problem recommending him.

Ernie replaced two sinks a toilet plus found and repaired a leak in a vanity. Everything looks and works good so far. House was clean and everything was hauled away. I'll call Ernie next time I need a plumber.

After providing good reviews for Ernie, I am now back here since my experience did change.

Ernie installed all the plumbing in my property, including a brand new Navien boiler. His job took 6 months to complete and by then, it was already summer so the new tenants did not need to use the heater.

Fast forward to October/November when the winter started, the brand new boiler started to shut down daily. I immediately reached out to him to fix the issue and like other reviews stated, it was everyone’s fault but his. It took him 7 months to fix the issue ( now again summer time). I still don’t know if it is fixed as the heat does not need to be on.

I spent well over 50-60k on plumbing work on him, and in the end, I looked at the numbers for my last invoice which I paid without reading( my fault) and discovered that I had overpaid him 1650 extra.

After trying to resolve this issue with him, and after I pointed out to him they the items on that invoice were already paid for, he then came up with an excuse as to why he charged this amount, according to him he spent 6 hours at 250 per hour to install a small baseboard on a tiny bathroom that was already installed by another plumber, it literally just needed to be connected, and did not take 6 hours, he definitely inflated the hours he worked on but instead of him being honest and refund the overpayment, he made up 6 hours of work that he never quoted for just to justify not refunding the overpayment.

In summary, Ernie acts and wants to charge like a pro, but his work, lack of knowledge and his sneaky ways of invoicing his customers determined the fraud he really is. If you are thinking about using him just be aware. Slow work, too many excuses and incompetent.

We recently remodeled our kitchen and Metro Boston Plumbing redid the plumbing for the sink, dishwasher, and fridge. Ernie did great work and was really good to work with. When we converted a fireplace to gas just recently, Ernie did great work adding the gas line. I can certainly recommend this business and they will be my first call for any plumbing needs we have in the future.

Ernie was very responsive and the quality of work was great. He came the same day and understood the urgency. The repair was bit tricky and he was through professional and very friendly. Would any day recommend him.

Ernie worked on my basement remodeling and I would totally recommend him. He is one of the best plumber I have worked with. He is professional, knowledgeable, careful with details, prompt and accomodating to every request. Also he is a very nice and pleasant person to work with, which is the cherry on top!

Ernie returned my call quickly and was able to fit me into his schedule the following day despite having a full day already. Once on site he diagnosed that the 2nd floor toilet had a slow leak and was causing damage to the ceiling on the first floor. He removed the toilet, replaced the flange and resolved the issue. It’s been a week since the job was done and no sign of any issues reoccurring. He was on time, professional and his pricing was very fair. I will be calling Ernie the next time I need a plumber.

Ernie did a wonderful job! Very knowledgeable, thorough, professional, and responsive. I was replacing a very old gas range and felt a bit unsure about the whole process because gas makes me nervous but Ernie really knew what he was talking about and explained everything really clearly and in a way that made me feel very comfortable about the whole thing! He’s super friendly and says he treats his customers’ homes like his own - he certainly seemed to with mine! 10/10 would recommend!

Ernie from Metro Boston Plumbing has been fantastic. We had an emergency washing machine issue and needed to get a new washer and dryer.
