Mark, Matt, Sarah and the rest of the team were extremely talented, hard working and enjoyable to work with. The end result is incredible; they completely transformed our backyard by leveling it, adding an extensive patio, stairs and a very long, double retaining wall. Would definitely recommend using them.

Wenzel landscaping has done many projects on our property over the past 8 years and we’ve been extremely happy with them. They are always courteous fair priced and professional and leave the yard looking great. They do great work in landscaping and hardscaping. We love our new patio.

Mark and the team recently completed a paver patio extension within our pool area. The team took great care and we couldn't be happier with the patio. This is the second time that we've used Wenzel Landscaping (first project was yard drainage which completely resolved issues we were having with water in basement) and will be continuing to contact them for any future landscaping/hardscaping needs!!!

We hired Wenzel to transform our backyard. We had an old retaining wall that was failing and a slope in our yard we wanted flattened. He and his team created a plan that worked for our needs. They were very professional and made sure to keep the site clean at the end of each day. It was a longer project with multiple phases and they were always working with us to make sure things were going as we’d hoped. We love our new backyard and can’t wait to enjoy it all.

I used Wenzel Landscaping for my mother's home. Living across the country, it was impossible for me to be there to manage the process.

But throughout, I was impressed by how they understood what we wanted and stayed within our budget. The crew leader, Matt, kept me up to date and kept my mother informed. They even let us know a new completion date when rain caused some delays in the new walkway and retaining wall.

Had my patio extended and added beautiful stairs and an awesome sitting wall. From the beginning of the project every employee was polite, courteous and professional. A special company led by Mark who is just fantastic but Matt was unbelievable in his skills and work ethic along with Sara. They never stop working and they always clean up at the end of the day. You can NEVER go wrong working with this fantastic company. Many thanks for a job well done and just great and trust worthy people.

Mark and the crew did a semi-serious renovation of our 25-year-old patio. The patio now looks better than it ever did in the past since they used a sealer to protect the cleaned-up brick work. They also removed an old fire pit (ugly) and installed a new one (beautiful). My wife and I are absolutely thrilled with this freshened up appearance. Thanks to their entire team for helping us out.

Wenzel Landscaping would get 10 stars from us. They went beyond expectations. Mark, the dad, takes such pride in his work. He works with his son, Matt, who does awesome stone work. His daughter, Sarah, was able to help on our project. She finished up our landscaping with plants from around our yard and even brought some from her own yard!!!! Highly recommended. Wenzel Landscaping re-did our side yard and entire backyard, including leveling an unforgiving hill and transforming our entire outdoor space into an oasis, completely different from how it looked and felt before. Hardscaping/landscaping completed by Wenzel in June 2022. The team was hardworking and flexible. But I did have several issues...

Hardscaping: Generally satisfied with new patio and walkway however, I wasn’t told until the day of install that the initial design of the walkway was not possible, the polymeric sand is washing away in places and there are several chipped pavers that should not have been installed. Also, they recommended installing a concrete pad under my AC unit and after assuring me they could move the unit without first being disconnected by a technician, they damaged the unit, costing 1.5k for the repairs for which they would not reimburse.
Landscaping: I appreciated Wenzel’s flexibility with adding a couple of gardens beyond what was initially contracted but communication was lacking and there was no transparency of costs or nor their no warranty disclaimer on trees/shrubs until the final invoice was received. I do like the garden design and the choice of shrubs, but I have since lost 8 of 10 arborvitae (7-8’) and a large cypress, even with proper care (4k). After consulting with several nurseries and arborists, I was told that the trees/shrubs were planted incorrectly (mounded too high, burlap/wire left on or not cut back). I contacted Wenzel and from their perspective, they were under watered so there was nothing they could do for me. I cared for and watered these trees for weeks/months, so if under watered, I don’t think the way they were planted helped. 2k to remove and replace with smaller arborvitae.

This was my first time doing a project of this nature and an expensive lesson learned. You have to put some level of trust in your contractor, but do your research, check disclaimers on warranties/liabilities, and obtain contracts for all work to be done.

UPDATE 1, June 2023: this is in response to Wenzel’s response to my initial review, in order to put things in context and address erroneous information..

To add, I was not told at the contracting stage that the planned design (curve in walkway) was not possible with the pavers I had chosen - I was only told on the day of install. If I had been told at the contracting stage, it would have given me time to look at alternatives.

I did request that a couple of pavers be replaced while you were on site but I did not inspect every paver. After the job was completed and upon further inspection, I noticed several other chipped pavers that I feel should not have been installed. I did have the manufacturer representative on site but the reason was not the install but the pavers themselves.
The only guidance I received during the plant/shrub install was the finger test. Nothing else was discussed nor was the fact that you could not warranty the plants/shrubs - I only became aware of this when you handed me the final invoice on which it is written. If anything else was discussed, it was at your 3 month visit but I would not say it was “in detail”. Of note, I did use the “finger test” and a moisture meter when assessing water requirements. Also, the mulch was removed after I had lost the trees/shrubs (as you saw in your 3 month visit) in preparation for their removal, not while I was trying to save them. I have included pictures of the mounded trees and burlap/wire that was left on root balls, in reference to my initial review.

The HVAC is not original to the house as you stated - it is only 10 years old, and was actually sitting pretty level to begin with. I mentioned that I was not using the HVAC unit because I did not have the need to use it so early in the season, not because it wasn’t functioning properly since I moved in as you mentioned – that is simply not true. You did mention that it would have been an additional expense if you had to come back on site at a later time but this was only mentioned after the job was completed, during the unfriendly phone call I received from you in response to my request for reimbursement for the repairs.

UPDATE 2, June 2024: Polymeric sand washed away leaving weeds and moss. 1k to fix.

Mark Wenzel and his team are the most professional, experienced landscape contractors I have ever met. Mark is extremely knowledgeable about retaining walls, materials and drainage. Each member of his team has a strong work ethic to meet deliverables. Mark takes pride in his work and it shows. My wife and I are extremely pleased with his work. Top shelf quality

Do not make final payment to Mark, Matt, Sarah or Wenzel Inc. Landscaping until you are 1000% sure the work is finished to your satisfaction. Mark came highly recommended by a friend and he did the same thing to both of us. They do not finish their work then ghost you. We spent a fortune for patio, walkway, and granite step work. His crew damaged our pool patio with their large equipment. He acknowledged it and promised to fix it. Unfortunately I made final payment to him and that was the last I’ve heard from him. He will not return calls and conveniently screens his calls. Wenzel is NOT a trustworthy company and their finish work is shoddy at best. DO NOT HIRE MARK OR HIS COMPANY.

UPDATE: I complained to BBB and Wenzel responded with blatant lies. They damaged my granite patio and did a half arse job and now refuse to fix it or refund my money. They are crooked and consumers beware!

UPDATE 2: Less than a year later and this is the quality and workmanship you can expect from Wenzel. I added 2 photos with cracking concrete on the granite steps they “fixed”. Do you think I can get a response from them? Not even a return call after countless attempts.
