Our central air stopped working on Monday night, right in the middle of a heatwave. Friends of ours recommended Alfano's. I called them Tuesday morning. I did not think they would be able to come for a few days, but I was surprised they were able to come Tuesday afternoon. It was a quick fix and done at a reasonable price. I will absolutely use them again!

Extremely disappointed in my experience. I had a brand new air conditioning unit place in my home less than two years ago. It stopped working this season. I had to call several times to get a repairman out and when they finally came the compressor had a leak in it. This air conditioning unit had a 10-year warranty which they said wouldn't cover a new compressor and that my only option was to purchase a brand new air conditioning unit which I was not going to do after having just spent $4,000 less than two years ago on a brand new unit. They were completely unprofessional and full of excuses.

Hmmm. Pretty mixed experience. They DID get a new furnace installed in one day, and worked to 7PM to do it. The furnace costs about 1,000; they charged us 4,200. That's VERY high labor costs.. 3,200! I reckon it was opportunistic pricing. And, I wish they had told me that the Goodman furnace is cheapest quality--we would have chosen a different brand. The, the installer said, all parts are warrantied for 10 years, but the contract they sent after says 5 years, with 10 for heat exchanger only. Installer said, the office will register the furnace with Goodman-you don't have to do anything. When i emailed them, they said, no, we need the serial number!!! The installer could have just taken a photo. Now, it's up to me to unscrew panels and find that number. Grrr. Charging top, top dollar (and then some, maybe) the service should be flawless--it's not. I've had to call then 4 times. Go elsewhere if you expect top quality service: I do, and I'm disappointed.

They are con artists! stay away!! I needed routine maintenance on an HVAC unit above my business before we moved out, and these scumbags went on roof, milled around for an hour and charged $400. the best part is that they did absolutely nothing, and told me they charged me to "inspect" the unit. then had the balls to tell me that I needed $1200 of additional repairs!! when I called to say that I didn't need it inspected, but that I had told the guy on the phone that I needed routine maintenance like changing the filters, as per my lease, I was given the runaround, and no one returned my cals for two weeks! so I ultimately had another company do what was supposed to be done for $200 and they confirmed that there is nothing wrong with the unit and it didn't need any repairs. one year later, the unit is running fine. they are scumbags and con artists.

This has legit the worst company I have ever had the displeasure of hiring. For starters, we paid 6k for a new furnace and ac a year ago and have had nothing but issues with it. We also paid up front for it and it took them months to finish the installation because they already had our money and didn’t want to be bothered. They continuously no call/no showed for appointment, canceled a handful of times (guess I should be grateful they actually told me those times), and then hung up on me repeatedly because they didn’t want to do their job.

On top of that, our heat stopped working two days ago and they sent a tech out to “fix” it. Charged me a couple hundred and it was broke within an hour after he left. I called to tell them it broke and we have no heat with a newborn and toddler and THE OWNER said “not my problem!”

My old cast iron radiator needed to be replaced and the price for the new radiator and labor came out to a much more reasonable price than any other quotes I got. Charles and Chris, who did the work, were fantastic and so, so friendly and helpful. They did the job quickly and efficiently and I am so happy I found them.

I specifically found Alfano Mechanical after being told I would need a new larger AC unit when I purchased my family's new home. We were renovating and shocked to hear that it would cost over $10,000. When I spoke to Rob, he came over to examine the situation and stated that the problem was the venting was never set up properly and that the existing unit was fine, but simply needed to be moved and reconfigured. He was professional, timely, and honest and did the work for less than half of what the other AC company quoted us. I would recommend him and Alfano to anyone, and have nothing but praise for Rob. He is a maestro when it comes to his work!!!

Alfano installed new A/C and heat November 2019. Sunday June 20, 2021, A/C stopped working. They got here Weds. 6/23. They said a transformer had failed; part under warranty, labor (for ONE HOUR) $400.00. They installed it, then said the 24 volt wire from the furnace in the basement running to the A/C condenser outside had a short in it. They said this would cost an additional $450.00, and take several hours.
I called the office and spoke with Phil. I asked the service man to leave.

Next day I had in Air Group. They said any system they installed was warrantied 5 years labor, 10 years parts. They said a fuse in the furnace was 10 amps, should have been 5 amps, this caused the transformer to overheat and fail. Only Alfano has serviced this unit, so they must have put in the wrong fuse. Air Group then addressed the short in the wire: he said there were three wires running between the furnace and the A/C compressor, only two are needed, so he used the extra one and fixed this problem in under 5 minutes. Alfano wanted $450 for this, which is why I threw them out.

Alfano's installation is O.K., but they are determined to rip people off on service calls. I stopped payment on the check.

If you want your heat or A/C serviced, call Air Group, NOT Alfano.

We had a sudden leak recently coming from our A/C system in the basement. Dorion was sent to us and not only fixed the problem, but was a total joy to chat to while he worked. It took some time to work out the issue given there was no obvious cause. However, his patience and persistence was fantastic and we appreciated his excellent work!

Alfano Mechanical is an exceptional company to deal with. The workers were friendly and knowledgeable and accommodating to my schedule. There prices were fair and lower than the estimates I received from others. The quality of work was great and I would definitely call them for any future work. Couldn't ask for better! I was very pleased with the entire experience and would highly recommend them. They were honest and dependable. A+++

These guys are awesome, we were having heating trouble. Not only did they come out the same day, but the guy who came was awesome! He purged the system, he troubleshooted until he found if there were any other issues (There were.), and then fixed other things that were just cosmetically off. Unbelievable!
Awesome service! 10 out of 10 would highly recommend.

Thanks again from your friends in Landing.

I would never work with Alfano mechanical again- the tech was not educated working with the Bosch heat water pump system! After twelve hours in my unit- I still had NO heat. The tech was to install a new coil. The coil seemed to be difficult for the tech. He could have called the tech at Bosch, they are available for one on one with a technician.
That never happened. The Freon was over filled. When I questioned him, he said it didn’t matter. That’s not true. In fact that was the reason the compressor kept cycling and shutting down.
I told the new owners of Alfano mechanical LLC
From my research, there are two reasons why the compressor would cycle.
    1-over fill Freon
    2-a leak
The system would run if there were a leak. Possibly 2-3 weeks, if at that time there’s no leak-
Then you can be assured the new coil has no leak!
When the unit was reviewed by a new tech. The unit had been off 2 1/2 days. The excess Freon had time to dissipate ! When it was turned on , it did run without cycling! Now we will have to wait to see if the heat goes out again, that will mean that the leak from not being completely soldered of the coil is still active!
This has been a frustrating experience working with Alfano mechanical LLC. I felt they were very unprofessional! I was given misinformation, basically lied to!
The tech lead me to believe the compressor was damaged. I had gone to Bosch, had an extended warranty put in place! I gave the tech call the information to the order a new compressor. He told me I needed to sign for the work!
After remembering the next day, the the cycling of the compressor could be, because of over filling the freon I called Bosch and put a block on this account! I have told the new owner Tom when we spoke. After having another company come in to evaluate the work. I was told the coil was not installed properly!

Excellent service all around from dispatcher, technician, and office staff, Tom, Dorian, and Sabrina, respectively. I highly recommend Alfano Mechanical to everyone!

I hired Alfano Mechanical four years ago to install two 2.5-ton heat pump systems. From day one the system never worked — 80°F inside in summer, ~60°F in winter, weak airflow, and units running nonstop.

The owner at the time, Phil, personally sold me the job. I asked for proper load calculations. He refused, saying he “knows these houses” and already installed the same system for my neighbors. Later I learned that was not true — no calculations were done, and he never worked for my neighbors.

For four years I complained. Instead of fixing the root issue, Alfano kept sending different techs. Every visit came with a different explanation, temporary small fixes, and more bills. The system never worked, and I spent over $12,000 between Alfano and other contractors just trying to stay comfortable.

Eventually, I brought three reputable HVAC companies to diagnose it properly. All three confirmed the installation was wrong from the beginning and undersized:
    • One company said minimum 3-ton
    • Another said 3.5-ton to handle NJ winter
    • All confirmed the system sizing was incorrect

They also found installation errors, like:
    • The air handler is 17 inches
    • But the duct it connects to is 21 inches
    • Meaning Alfano installed a narrower unit than the original design, causing restricted airflow and weak heating/cooling from day one

Ownership changed, and I gave the new owner a chance to make it right. I sent three emails, explained everything, and asked him personally to call me. No response. On the phone they again offered only temporary fixes — and wanted to charge again.

    Final straw:
    • One tech said the system was undercharged, added refrigerant, charged me — no improvement
    • Two months later another tech said it was overcharged, removed refrigerant, and tried to bill me again — I refused
    • One month later the system failed completely and now must be replaced

I’m in industrial sales myself — I understand complex equipment, and mistakes can happen. But a professional company stands behind its work and fixes it. I tried to resolve this privately for four years. All I wanted was a system that works. I never got it.

I am now hiring an independent certified HVAC expert to document everything and consulting a lawyer.

Very disappointing experience. I cannot recommend this company.
