In the past I had penfield plumbing do all my work and their quality was never in question. I had a pinging noise in my water heater. They sent out a tech and he said water pressure was too high. He gave me a quote of $1050 to install new regulator and replace expansion tank. I said that seems pretty high and he said it is 4 hours worth of work. I signed the agreement to do the work which was my bad because I trusted them in the past. Two guys were here working for a max of 1 hour and 15 minutes. I was anticipating them being here all morning. I asked where did the 4 hours come from he said it was 2 people which he never explained to me.I said it still didn’t add up to 4 hours and he would not adjust the bill because I signed the agreement for the amount. I called the office because I felt he over estimated and basically got more excuses. I guess the lesson learned is don’t trust anyone and get quotes from others before you sign. PS the work quality was still very good!

They scheduled the follow-up work quickly, showed up earlier than expected, clearly explained what needed to be done, and made sure I had a chance to ask questions (which they answered thoroughly and respectfully). The entire experience was smooth, efficient, and far exceeded what I’m used to from service providers.

We have used Penfield Plumbing for over 10 years. They were our 'go-to' company. We had a small pipe leak and called them for help. They told us they could fix it, but only if the main water line was shut off. They said the main shutoff valve wasn’t working and would need to be replaced before they could repair (solder) the pipe. They left without stopping the leak—even though there was a separate shutoff valve just six inches above the damaged section. I discovered that myself the next day.

A month later, I had a leak in a different pipe and called a different company. They turned off the main water line with no problem and completed the repair. So I’m still unsure why Penfield Plumbing told me the main shutoff valve needed replacing.

I don’t think they were being dishonest—I think it was a mistake. But still, this error cost me time, and could have cost me quite a bit of money.
