I highly recommend McKinnley excavating for any job large or small from landscaping to earth moving.The owner Joe Palmer is one of the most polite young men I have ever bought materials from. The broad street location is convenient and even open on Saturdays.

They were late for 2 out of the 3 dumpsters I ordered. Having to pay folks while waiting on the bin costs money. Their billing system leaves room to be desired as they first billed me for 4 dumpsters. 30 yarders ended up being about $450 per load. Not sure I even payed for the correct loads. Not sure if they knew either.

But the fact is they were VERY courteous people, did finally deliver, and the ONLY ones that had bins available. I would use them again and hope they have their act together for better service and billing. I hear others aren't any better.

As a builder/developer for the last 10 years, I have always been discouraged by the majority of excavation companies. That all changed when Mr. Palmer and I met a few years back. He has always been on time, consistently over achieved, and always over delivered on his promises. On every single one of our projects Joe has taught us how to SAVE money, and is always there to lend his vast experience. I could not possible recommend a more knowledgeable competent company.

We had a difficult job with a hill behind our home and Joe and Chad at McKinnley Excavating were up to the task when not many other companies were. Chad drove the excavator and was an amazing communicator, skilled at his job and was highly professional. Joe came out afterwards to check on the completed job and gave us many referrals for next steps with our landscaping projects. Highly recommend! They are a great asset to our community as well!

After my employer had battled with several landscapers regarding steps for their front porch, they happened to find McKinnley Excavating. They did a beautiful job and recomended a change that made the project better than it would have been if they had simply followed our initial instructions. We appreciate their work every day when we walk out the front door! They were timely and efficient and came back until the job was completely satisfactory.

As a builder, I've had the opportunity to use Mckinnley Excavating on a variety of jobs over the last five or six years. They handled the excavation and construction or a large retaining wall and drainage system that I used to build a residential addition. The work was excellent, coordinated, and carefully planned. I remain friends with those customers and to this day, they have never had any issues with drainage or water intrusion related to this work.
These guys have hauled dirt and gravel for me into multiple sites, they've spread and prepped sites for me when I needed that work and have helped me finish jobs by bringing in beautiful top soil for the yards and landscaping.
In every dealing with them, from the front office, to the guys driving the trucks, I have been impressed and pleased with the organization and professionalism they all exhibit.
I wholeheartedly recommend these guys.

Just finished our project with McKinnley and couldn’t be more pleased. Project involved removing a large amount of dirt from our up-sloping back yard, placement of a large retaining wall, drainage, irrigation, sod and hardscape. The team patiently worked with us on establishing the plan, offered creative improvements as the project unfolded, and were continuously mindful of the neighbors, impact on street traffic, and any debris that needed to be cleaned up. I think this company is very professional and I highly recommend them. If you need to reshape your landscape, they will do a great job!

We would highly recommend McKinley for any project. Project manager Chad did an excellent job, got more than we expected at a better price. Communication was awesome, already drawing up my next set of plans.

The team at Southern Roots landscaping were awesome to work with. We had them install a patio and fire pit around our pool and we had unexpected settling about a year after it was completed. At no cost to me as the owner, they came back and adjusted the base for the pavers and made it look brand new again and took care of all of the settling.

We had Southern Roots come and install an approximately 23’x23’ area of artificial turf in our courtyard area at our home.
They really knew what they were doing. They recommended a mix of materials to make a good base, laid the turfing, and sanded it with pet friendly product to finish. We are loving it. Meg and Luke were very good to work with and we couldn’t have asked for better communication during the whole process. It was a very reasonable turnaround time between when we first called them to access & quote the job until we had our finished project. We recommend them for sure!

Luke and Meg with southern roots are absolutely awesome. We called them for a stone addition around our garage and they did a great job. From the moment we called them the communication between us was awesome and we absolutely love the final result. Give them a call for anything you need done.

Job looked great when finished, two years later major cracks everywhere
After several calls they said they came to look at it ( not on video surveillance)
Told me they were normal stress cracks, not much could be done will probably have to black top over this $ 10,000. Mess

Maven did a great job for me on a difficult task. They poured the foundation for the pier for my telescope observatory. The location here on Lookout Mountain was somewhat remote and difficult to access. They solved all of the logistical problems that came up in imaginative ways. I’m very pleased with the result. The observatory will house a telescope capable of completely robotic operation (all aspects of the telescope operation, including astrophtography, able to be controlled via the internet from anywhere in the world). I was glad to have Maven’s expertise on the foundation pouring, as this extremely precise telescope requires an extremely stable pier and foundation. All of the people from Maven we’re friendly, professional and fun to work with. Thanks, Maven!
