I might be wrong but LawnStarter appears to subcontract services --
I think that is why some people get great service and others get horrible service. My LawnStarter crew mowed and trimmed my lawn twice. Both times the crew damaged my sprinklers -- and both times they did not even bother to let me know...I work from home and it isn't that difficult to ring the doorbell (or simply notify me through their app) -- the damage they caused would have been extremely difficult for them not to have noticed. I've attached a picture of one of the sprinklers they damaged, where they snapped off the sprinkler head with attached pipe/plastic tubing. Beyond this, they really didn't go a good job mowing the yard, missing patches and leaving blades of grass standing. I definitely got the feeling that they were in such a rush to get the job done that they just didn't take the time to examine the property and using common sense with their equipment -- they took a riding lawnmower down the side walkway of my house, which is narrow and really not meant for a riding lawnmower -- I heard it scrape the rock wall along my house/outside of my office -- then proceeded to run over a sprinkler head. While they avoided attempting to jam a riding lawnmower along the side of my house again, they still managed to destroy another sprinkler head on their second visit. Anyway, I'm sure that some crews are great but mine wasn't. When I called customer support, they apologized and asked if I wanted a new service crew and indicated that they are partnering with another team in my service area -- not sure how they have evaluated whether that team is any better. -
Don't do business with this company. Their contractor broke my iron gate. I called CS and they sent the claim to Property Damage Dept and they denied my claim. These people are scammers. Why, do LawnStarter take out property damage insurance from their contractor's pay, but don't pay for customers' damages The contractor told me the have insurance taken out of the pay auto for liabilty. Then the guy cut my grass like a drunk person. I am so glad I kept his photo on the app, photo's of the damage, and the cut of grass, and his trailer light cover that broke off. The guy didn't know he hit my gate until I called him. LawnStarter are unprofessional people in office and contractors. I will be sending a demand letter for quote of gate, and small claims court.

The Lawn Starter platform itself is pretty nice. I have used both Lawn Starter and Plowz and Mowz. With Lawn Starter, I haven't had any service providers mow down flowers or treat my yard badly like I did with Plowz and Mowz. The con for Lawn Starter is that you have to commit to three services. Admittedly, this isn't too bad since it's much cheaper than the other provider, and I will definitely need their help with at least three mows this summer. They do offer more services like poop scooping, mulching, and weeding etc. It's never going to be as if I mowed my own lawn. But you definitely can't beat their prices on any of the apps, and they are super duper convenient to have around if you end up working 3 weeks without a day off, like I sometimes do. So that's for the service provider app. Each service provider that is sent should get their own review. For example, I had one provider who did a good job but wasn't as responsive to my needs with a more detailed job like tree removal. But then I had service providers who I told to clear the north fence line, and those guys got my neighbors' permission and cleared the fence line like nobody's business. I was impressed. Good news is that I've used them a few times, and I'm like the other one. I haven't gotten any bad providers, take it for what it's worth.

Here’s an update after dealing with Kat, a Customer Experience Specialist. She followed up after my original review.
I’ll give Kat credit for her time and effort to understand exactly what occurred with the property damage caused by a landscaper that Lawnstarter referred to my home. When it was all said and done, she was unable to resolve my concern. She had this very polite demeanor with an “I feel your pain” approach but nothing changed. She did not reimburse me for the $250 cost that I paid to have my sprinkler system repaired. Bottom line…..It’s rare to meet such a nice person who can accomplish so little.
DO NOT USE LAWNSTARTER!! They sent a contractor to remove some dead rose bushes and the guy destroyed my irrigation system with a pickax. When he did not return to repair it, I called the main office for help. They said that the contractors are not employed by LawnStarter so they declined to take any responsibility even though they sent him to me. I insisted they reconsider their decision or I would have to cancel my weekly mowing service. So, they sent me to an “Incident Resolution Analyst” who told me I must be confused and probably called Home Advisors instead of Lawnstarter. I even sent them a screenshot of the contractor’s original text, but they just doubled down and said the contractor is incorrect. The whole experience felt like some bizarre corporate spin zone that puts the customer second. Now I’m looking for a reputable company to repair their damage. It’s pitiful. -
LawnStarter is an excellent lawn service with a top notch customer service and experience. The communication on their site make it easy to relay information between the customer and your lawn care provider. The work on my lawn is always of the highest quality. Keep up the great 👍🏾 work! Well deserved 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ in service!

I hired Annette to mow my lawn, and they did a great job! The grass was cut evenly, and the yard looked really neat afterward. It was just a basic trim, but they handled it perfectly. They also made sure everything was clean before they left—no clippings or mess left behind. I’m very happy with their service and would definitely use them again!

They are now charging me for work not done. A crew was suppose to show up on 6/2/22, no show. So I mowed my own yard. Then they showed up on 6/7/22, without letting me know. The crew told them they did mow the lawn when they did not. The first crew damaged the edging.

It makes it easy to get a variety of lawn care needs met simply. It does take several crews and tries to get a reliable crew, which is how it is if you are finding one on your own anyway.
I wouldn't use them for super detail oriented work unless you work from home to point out exactly what you want when they arrive which is what Id recommend with any yard work oriented crew.
I only have them mow because I dont enjoy mowing and them doing this all day is hard work especially in Texas heat so I appreciate someone else doing it for me so I will happily pay them for it.
My current crew does a great job of letting me know if they skip service, are late and why. Im ok with it bc my yard is mowed biweekly and even with that it's fine. I haven't felt lied to about whether they did service. I also tip 20%. -
Charge 150 for first three cuts and they just reschedule due to "inclement weather" come on now what kind of nonsense is this. I am paying additional funds now and they haven't even completed the first three services .. just two cuts since August. Unbelievable

Got a really bad crew top take care of my lawn. Complained about it about a month ago and they just ignored. I had a chance just now to talk in person with one of the crew members and he told me "that I was more than welcome to look for another landscaping company ".
Finally... damaged my hose hanger and were not even able to mention about that. -
Using LawnStarter to coordinate lawn maintenance has been great. Signing up is easy and they handle recruitment and payment. Any inquiries or issues are addressed promptly and options are offered. I highly recommend their services.

I requested a quote and they offered $19 for the first lawn service so I signed up. Since then I keep getting texts and emails to sign up for service when I already did.
When I signed up and scheduled the first service on their web page it said Monday or Tuesday, then I received an email stating my lawn would be mowed on Thursday or Friday. Then the person came on Wednesday with no notice. Luckily, I was home and heard the lawnmower so I was able to unlock my gate to give access to the back yard. The service was ok.
Per their website they require customers to have 3 services before dropping them.
I'm not sure if I'd recommend them. I'll update after the next service. -
Victor does a great job on my lawn. I initially hired LawnStarter when I injured my back almost a year ago. Now that I am healed I have decided to continue the service. I could do it now, but Victor does a great job and it saves me a lot of time

The response to messages was impressively quick, and the estimated arrival time was communicated clearly, which made planning much easier. The explanation was not only kind but also delivered with a professional attitude that inspired confidence. Everything was explained in detail, and helpful advice was provided throughout. Overall, it was a very pleasant and reassuring experience.

I had an overgrown lawn and needed help. I called Lawn Starter and they sent someone out the same week. Hector did a great job! My yard is tamed & i will enjoy regular service to keep it under control. Thank you!

Love this service! Been a life saver with my yard and HOA. All the yard guys I have gotten (Franklin and Josh) do a professional, clean job. You can change how you want your service too (weekly/bi-weekly) and do a consult if you want special treatments for your lawn or need anything like bush trimmings.

I asked to skip service on 3/10/25 and LawnStarter ignored my request, charged me $62, and left my Bermuda grass a mess. Only refunded me after I threatened legal action — and called it a "one-time courtesy." Do better and take responsibility!

Worst company every. Do not ever use this company. Destroyed flowers beds. Left grass everywhere. Rocks from the flower bed all over the place. And they have done nothing to fix this.

I'm very impressed with John’s work! He really paid attention to the details, especially the edging, which looks incredibly sharp. My whole yard looks better and you can tell it was done by a professional. It was so great to have someone show up on time and actually do what they said they would do!

First & last time using this service. When I inquired for lawn maintenance I was advised by Denise that the estimate she provided was in fact a preliminary estimate until the landscaper would come to then do a proper evaluation of the property for me to then have an accurate assessment of the charges. Once the true rate was verified I would then be “prompted” to sign the estimate BEFORE the landscaper would start the job. This was not the case as the landscaper had no clue what I was referring to & went straight to cutting the grass WITHOUT my verbal consent.
When I called customer service to cancel Kenny advised me that they need to allow a minimum of 3 cuts for them to cancel your service, which was NOT disclosed during the initial call nor did I sign anything binding me to a contract of that sort. I requested to speak to a manager which he didn’t connect me to but offered to “pause” my service when I called to cancel. How odd after me requesting to speak with a manager to discuss the “3 cuts minimum” I was then told they’d be able to cancel effective immediately. Which is what I wanted & shouldn’t have taken more than 20 minutes to do so!
Kenny just kept arguing with me by saying they advised the rate prior before we disconnected, which I understood (although the rate was not why I was calling) but my issue at hand was that this process did not pan out as Denise had said.
Disappointed with the customer service from Lawn Starter given the great reviews which is what lead me to start my service with them. -
Overall great experience with LawnStarter and Bryant
Communication was always great if things needed to be rescheduled. We are moving states so we have cancelled services with them but had them for over a year and were very happy with what they provided!
