Home Services reviews in Houston, Texas

Early Aug. I came looking for terracotta pots. I'm an amateur gardener I guess. I did not find any. I found nice selections. I found things I didn't know I was looking for. Houston, mosquitoes. They say lemongrass good for that. Bought 4 at $5.99. Healthy bunches. Very pleased. Highly recommend. Customer service excellent. Staff very nice and helpful.

Wide variety of healthy plants. Easily maneuverable. Plenty of staff if you need assistance. Reasonable prices. Great choice for all your garden & planting needs. Healthy plants make happy plants.

I suggest going if you know exactly what you need, because I have found (based on experience at multiple locations) the customer service to be horrendous (everyone who works here is angry). I called this location a few months ago and asked if they had a specific type of fertilizer. The person on the phone told me I needed to come in and look for myself!

They close before their posted hours all the time. Twice now we showed up two hours before they closed and both times they were completely closed, once with the gate open. By the time we had our plants and were ready to check out they told us there was no way they could check us out. Two employees saw us and did not stop us from walking around and picking plants. Never coming back.

On Nov 25, 2023, bought a 6’ tree AND the base that they attached to the tree. This was at the 5345 W Loop S, Houston, TX 77081 location. As always, arrived at home and watered the tree first. The tree is fully decorated with lights and ornaments, tree topper and everything else. Today, Monday, Nov 27, there is no water and the floor is wet. I just called the location where I bought the tree and the person who answered the phone never announced herself or mentioned that it was Houston Garden Center. I asked if in fact it was that business and she said “yeeeeeess”. I told her of the problem and first, she suggested that “maybe” we hit or grabbed the tree from the base they put on. After a completely useless conversation with this person, she said that I should Bering the tree back. I reitera that it was completely and fully decorated. She repeated that we should bring the tree back so that they can “fix it”.
Don’t buy Christmas trees or anything else from Houston Garden Center. I certainly will never again. They have the worst customer service and no concern for the customer. And they’re not cheap either. $18.99 for a leaky base that has probably $1.50 worth of wood and a plastic tray that’s probably worth another $1.00. -
Great variety, healthy plants, only a little higher than the big box stores, but you get what you pay for. Not 5 stars because you can’t call the location your going to directly, the net only has one generic number. And if there out of something, don’t bother asking the employees. They just quickly say “I don’t know” ?

I was recently at one of your stores with my handicap friend (in a wheelchair) We looked around for awhile, then decided on what she wanted. I went and got a cart...loaded it (didn't mind doing this) then headed towards the registers ...2 Emploees passed me NEVER ask if I need help as I was pushing her wheelchair and pulling the cart. Once at the register...we paid (100.00) Again ...no one ask if we needed help. Passed 4 employees on our way out the gate....passed another employee in the parking lot while I was trying to maneuver the cart and the wheelchair. He was kind enough to take the cart back for us :/ Before anyone gives their opinion....let me say this....Yes it's my job to take care of her and yes I chose to take her.... I was just so upset NOT ONE EMPLOYEE ASK IF WE EVER NEEDED HELP.
This was on a Tuesday at 3 in the afternoon...They were NOT BUSY!!! The only person that ask if we needed help to the car, was another customer!!! Webster Texas Store...Off 45
Check the cameras we checked out at 3:00 4/23/24 -
I used to love going to the Houston garden center. But as of this year, I think I’m going to stop. I bought some Christmas lollipop decorations from them which they create every year at this time. Just because they are outside 24/7 for over a month they usually only last two seasons before the colors just fade. So this year I bought some replacements, but was puzzled to find that the stems were 8th inch dowel rods. For those who don’t know dowel rods are wood. And very cheap pine wood. That’s the purpose of a dowel rod. So I bought them anyway but now just a couple weeks after purchasing them all of them have snapped in half after rain storms. The wood is so cheap that all of them snap off at the ground whenever any wind blows. So almost $100 worth of decorations gone. But in the past they have used metal rods to hold them up. Very sturdy and withstood anything. It’s just so sad to see a local family owned business that has been around for decades giving in to corporate greed like everybody else, and cheaping out on the products they sell, just for the sake of making a little more money.

Horrible! Used to come here all the time and the last 2 times it has been horrible and I will never go back. The workers look at you like deer in head lights when you have 4 carts of plants and you ask for help…. they “speak no English.” But when you say it’s half off they know how to say “no” and understand you.HOW CONVENIENT … Sales “half off” very deceiving.. out of all my plants and trees NONE were 1/2 … yet sign says MOST plants 1/2 off. Want to get screwed come here!

Great selection and good prices! The only downside is that the staff doesn't really know what's in inventory or where to find it, but if you're willing to poke around, you'll find some wonderful plants. The gardening supplies, planters, etc. are very overpriced, but most of the plants are adorable, local, and healthy. Highly recommend overall!

Grounds always neat, staff always watering. Excellent seasonal color choices. Love the 50pct discount on summer stock. Amiable and careful cashier at check out. I'll be back when weather is cool enough to rework garden.

Horrible experience with the “manager.” Simply asking for assistance regarding plants I was unable to plant yet and wanted to know if there was anything I could do because I didn’t want them to die. Instead, I was met with a very rude “Chris” who I asked if I could please speak with anyone who would help me figure out what I can do to ensure the plants didn’t die since there is a no return policy. He said no. I asked if maybe his supervisor or manager could give me some direction. He said “she’ll yell at me.” And I asked, if he was refusing to to ask his supervisor what I can do in the meantime? He said, “Yes, I’m refusing to call her.” I then asked what his name was and he said Chris and then I asked what his last name was and he said, “Chris” clearly with the intention of being rude for reasons unbeknownst to me.
I was asking for help and advice, and instead I was met with someone who was so unbelievably rude and treated me with utmost disrespect for reasons I will not know other than I must’ve interrupted his music listening time since he had to take his headphones out when I asked for help.
I will not be going back and I would advise against shopping here if you’re looking for any kind of assistance or even just basic decency/manners. Not something I was expecting from a garden center. -
If I could have given a zero star I would have. I am disabled right now & have to use a walker. My husband has been so great during all of this I decided to surprise him on my way home from the Dr. I stopped at the Pasadena location at Vista & Beltway 8 to get him 3 Live Oak trees that he has been wanting. I waited in the line to see if they could get me the trees & load them in my truck. I had already called to verify availability & price. I was told no by the female clerk. I would have to get a cart, load them myself & bring to check out. A man at the next register heard that & offered to help me. I said thanks but I wouldn't spend my money there after that & I left. Lost a fairly big sale & my business in the future.

I bought many plants and squirrel repellent that was $26. Got to the parking lot, just for the heck of it I looked on Walmart site for the same repellent. They had it for $16. I took the repellent back into Garden Center, with receipt. They would not refund my money because I had left the garden enclosure.
NEVER WILL COME HERE AGAIN!!! -
Terrible - they refused refund of unopened $50 bag of fertilizer that their employee suggested incorrectly for me. Will NEVER go back. This no return policy is ridiculous. Mgr Bobby was of no help.

It's such a shame.
I have purchased many plants from multiple locations of Houston Garden Center in the past, but I'm afraid that has come to an end.
Let me explain.
They always have a big sign out front telling about their sales. This time, the sign said "70% Off ALL Trees and Shrubs." Since I needed a Camelia, I stopped in to get one. When I checked out, they would not honor the sale, saying that Camelias were not included.
I purchased it anyway, because I needed it and was tired. I thought that maybe I would speak to a manager later in the week.
Nope!
The number for the Tomball location goes to voicemail and the mailbox is full.
So ...
I called the corporate office.
I have no idea who I was talking with, because she wouldn't say. However, she did tell me that Camelias are not included in ALL Trees and Shrubs. When I asked her how a Camelia is not a shrub, she just said, "I don't know, but they're not included." I suggested that, perhaps they should say that on the sign, to which she replied, "OK."

I really like their plants, but I won't be shopping there anymore. There are too many other great places that have great customer service, and are honest. -
Great selection of plants at decent prices.
Some things are more expensive than the Home Depot and Lowe’s selection, but better quality. -
They have a HUGE sign stating they have fresh grass every Thursday. I came in on a Thursday at 4pm. I was unable to find an associate who spoke English so I used google translate to ask where the grass is, what units it’s sold in and for how much. The associate led me around the entire store, fixing up things along the way before saying the grass hasn’t come yet. I asked what time since it was 4PM and they close at 7 and she didn’t know.
I called the store and the person on the other end said the same, that it would come today but didn’t know when or the price. Very silly to advertise it if it doesn’t come until right before close and no one has any info. -
Easy experience. Reasonable prices. Helpful staff.
In and out in like 20 minutes.
Trees over 6ft $50 and up, plus like $13 for a base.
Spent around $70 for pic related. -
Great place to get what you need. Only catch is not a lot of 'experts' if you need advice. Do your homework on what you want/need before you get here. And/or take your phone...
Good prices and I trust this place to have plants that match our weather unlike Home Depot, Lowe's, etc -
Ana was very rude and short tempered, I asked her if she can provide location information, she said she doesn’t know the address and cannot provide a business card, she eventually did provide me hand written information on the location, I am doing my yard over, and have spent thousands of dollars with this brand, I also asked for a manager and was declined. She told me that she’s tired and that’s the reason she was being rude, and advised me that she was trying to be nice, after I told her the importance of customer service, I am also a business owner and I know that people have bad days, but to continue to be rude over such a small ask. I find it highly unprofessional and bold, this incident took place at 4:25-4:35 front cashier 02/05/25, disappointing experience, wonderful selection of plants
