I visited there on Sunday, August 24th, and please be warned that a lot of the plants are infested with mealy bugs. They should not be selling any plants that have mealy bugs.

Update: beware plants are not guaranteed. So if you spend good money on large plants, shrubs, trees and they die I was told you are just out of luck. I bought two roses, planted the same location if Rose miracle grow soil. One doing well, one died quite quickly (only had about two weeks). It started looking bad immediately, and within two weeks it was gone. The roots were weak looking in the dirt as if it was just planted.

The prices are not much better than Home Depot or Lowe’s for the risk of being out of luck if uou get a bad plant and it dies.
Best bet for bargains is to go to Lowe’s in the back of the outdoor garden area they have clearance flowers. Although they look a little rough you can plant abs give a little love and care and they come back. I have such great success with these plants. I have them all over my yard. I call them my “rescue babies”!!

Just know at HGC you have a risk of being out of the money spent!!!!

The review below was about a year ago. Just another bad experience with them. Unsure why I went back.

PRICE IS NOT WHAT IT IS POSTED.
I typically love HGC. However, this location is really poorly managed. Often the shelves are bar or a bunch of old over grown plants. I was excited today to see they had a fresh order of mums. The sign on both ends of the table said $1.99 for qt. Another sign different table said 1.99 for qt. All Colors. So while there I grabbed 8 mums, and 8 other 1 qt. Annuals. When I checked out my bill was much higher then expected only 3 of the 16 were $1.99, mums 2.99 and 2 other plants were 3.99. All annuals! When I asked about it I was told the sign was in wrong place. Most of the tables, including where I got mine had a $1.99 for qt. Some did have certain plan names, that I did not notice I give them that. I asked to speak with manager and was told she will tell you the same thing. I again asked to speak with manager. Helper went to office came back out found another worker who was off loading flowers and could not speak English and told she was the manager. He translated to me that she said basically the price is what we ring it up as you can not go off posted prices!
I think I will find another place to buy my plants, if that is the case. Over all it was. Different of $12 really nothing, but it was the principle. It’s even happened before, price did not ring up as what I was posted and I was always I. A hurry and just went with it. I am just sick and tired of the poor customer service and the mentality that THE CUSTOMER DOES NOT MATTER! Wait until Amazon can deliver fresh flowers and these type of business go away and they will wish for the day they had loyal customers!!!

Today my wife’s car and another car were both broken in within minutes of her entering the store. The manager, Richard Warren was completely useless and safety of the customers was not a concern at all. Avoid this place at all cost.

Don’t bother calling any of the Houston garden center location’s phone numbers. Whoever is running their phone line needs to be fired and replaced, they are losing you business. I was told the tree I was looking for wasn’t in stock (immediate no, so quickly it was clear she hadn’t checked) only to go to the location I called to find 20+ of that tree in stock.

You can find everything here when it comes to landscaping.

They have a wide range of annual and perennial flowers/ground cover, hanging baskets, scrubs and trees.

They also carry potting soil, fertilizer, root stimulator, flower pots and gardening tools.

I like their weekly ad that appears in the Friday issue of the Houston Chronicle.

Bought a Christmas tree here. We asked it to be trimmed at base and they didn’t. Then It won’t take water after a cut at home. Tried to exchange it for another but “no refunds and no exchanges “ asked for another cut to see if that might work then they charged me another $3 to cut it again. Super not helpful and arrogant manager. Will never shop here again.

Wish I had read the reviews. This business is super overpriced. I stupidly paid for soil here and realized after going to Lowes I could have gotten the same soil for half the price. I drove back only for them to point to the reciept and give some excuse of the owner not excepting returns or exhanges. They know exactly how they are screwing over their costumers. Just go to any other gardening store.

I went to Houston Garden to buy all-purpose garden soil, but they loaded mulch instead. When I noticed the error and went back to resolve it, I was told all sales are final, even though the mix-up was entirely on their end.

To make matters worse, the store manager was extremely rude and unprofessional when I tried to explain the situation. Instead of owning the mistake or even offering a compromise, they were dismissive and made it clear they had no interest in helping.

It’s frustrating to spend your money at a business, only to be treated like you're the problem when they’re the ones who got it wrong. I won’t be shopping here again, and I recommend others double-check everything before leaving, because once you're out the gate, you’re on your own, even if they mess it up.

Never ever buy from this company! They mistreat their hard working employees and their customers.

Don’t buy your Christmas tree from here…They damaged my car loading the tree on my car. The manager laughed and said there was nothing they could do about it. They “filed” a report but haven’t heard anything from ownership… poor customer service.

I drive all the way from Arlington to get plants from here. I wish Kim (the gal in the commercials) would open a DFW Garden Center. I grew up in Houston with this place and my parents shopped here. Now I am their age (back then) and shop here when I am in town and about to leave for DFW. Today, I picked of a 15 foot (10 Gal) Red Oak Tree for $99!!! There is no place around me with a Red Oak that big for that price. Got me a few azaleas on sale too!

Lots of plants relatively inexpensive but if you need any information about a plant or soil or exposure good luck.

It’s a great place for general gardening. Now if you are looking for indoor plants that are not toxic to cats, you’ll have a hard time finding them here. Otherwise, there’s a great selection and the people working there are nice.

Went for a Christmas tree. Hand about 400 to choose from. Tall ones, and fat ones, and skinny ones too. No matter your choice, the staff was nice and made quick work

This place is huge everything from large trees to potting soil . The clerks are there if you require or happy to let you wander the nursery. The prices are good , prime location 18th and loop, ample parking large selection a first choice in the loop.

They sent an email out saying everything is 70% off until January 15. I tried to call multiple locations to confirm this and got no answer. After driving an hour to the garden center on the 9th I am told that it’s only 50% off and they will not honor the flyer that they sent. VERY DISAPPOINTING & FALSE ADVERTISEMENT

Wow so I had read the reviews before I went here so I can’t say that I haven’t been forewarned, but on one of the reviews I read it set their flowers died immediately after purchase still I took a chance and I bought about five flowers from here and within a week after we potting them they completely died.. yes prices are cheap but be careful what you pay for. Only one still living right now. They grew some weird bacteria I wasn’t even going to reuse the potting mix that I bought because I was worried it would affect other plants. Attached one photo for example

We've bought our family Christmas trees here every year for several decades. We bought a tree Sunday and spent well over $100 to include a base and fresh cut (plus an additional $20 tip) We brought it home, put water in it and it immediately began leaking all over our living room floor and nearly drowning our roomba and other electric devices. We strapped the tree back on top of my car and hauled it back where they put another base on it. Unfortunately, as soon as we pour water in the base, again its leaking, it has a giant nail in it, splitting the water bucket down the middle but Jennifer, the manager, says its all my fault. She says I must have ripped the bucket by pulling on the base. DONT GET YOUR TREE HERE or at least don't let their people put a base on it. Merry Christmas

Yes, bad service gardeners don't care and managers are not knowledgeable. Went recently found avocado tree from last year ad said 50% did not honor. Rude and im going to Cornelius on Voss I'd rather pay more but service quality and deals are better . LOST ME AS A CUSTOMER. manager was a spanish lady did not know pricing so bad she deserves to be fired.

WARNING!! DO NOT BUY YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE HERE!!!
We bought our Christmas tree here this year. We paid the extra $20 for them to give us a fresh cut and put a stand and water bowl on it. We brought the tree home and put water in the bowl, fully trusting it had been put on properly. Within minutes a gallon of water poured all over our expensive hardwood floors! It took us hours to clean up the mess and it was especially difficult because we had already decorated the tree and put lights on. It was an absolute disaster! We brought our receipt back to the Garden center, along with the faulty stand, and we were told there was “nothing they could do to help us.” They gave us a number to call customer service at headquarters, so we did that today. Headquarters told us to pound sand. They said they cannot give refunds and they made no apologies and absolutely refused to make their inflicted disaster right. This company does not care about Customer Service, they do not care about their customers, and they have inferior products. We will never give them another dime after being very loyal customers. What a disappointment! #FAIL!!!!
