Smooth experience from beginning to end... Final product is beautiful and flourishing after following the directions they provided...

I would definitely recommend this company! I had a majority of my front mulch bed re-done. The guys came and removed everything in one day and then planted the next. Everything was quick, easy, and hands-off (I was at work while they completed the entire project). They also mulched a tree in the front yard with some extra mulch so everything would match. Not to mention I got the cheapest quote from Green Side Up (out of multiple companies). Such a great experience!

This is an *excellent* company. We have a large property with extensive landscaping that we could never maintain ourselves. Green Side Up took the time to listen to exactly what we wanted and needed and they delivered beyond what I expected. Every service has been prompt, courteous, and well done. Every single thing is taken care of with amazing attention to detail. The lawn looks beautiful, the bushes and trees look perfect - everything is taken care of, from edging to trimming to mowing to mulching to clean up. They just planted my gorgeous weeping willow tree and it looks fantastic. I cannot recommend this company enough.

Green Side Up is a great company. They communicate well and often regarding our yard maintenance needs. The technicians take pride in their work. We would recommend GSU to anyone

In these last months I have started with my contract with GSU. The "onboarding" process was amazing. The communication process is excellent and I can see and know that they are available and responsive. They are competent and thorough and I feel confident that I will finally have a yard that looks healthy and cared for. I have used big companies in the past, been disappointed in their work and their responsiveness and it is clear to me that GSU is very, very different in all regards. Highly recommend.

They made sure every detail was perfect and went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with the plantings.

We just started working with Green Side up landscaping. I love their website for information and the booking process. They have great communication and are proactive in getting you all the big information ahead of time. Each in person meeting has been conducted professionally and on time, which is so appreciated. The quality of work they have done with the retaining wall, mulching and sprinkler work has been impressive. We will continue to use Greenside up for more yard projects.

EDITED 3 December 2024: I posted this review in response to a billing request for a review (1 Nov 24) generated by the parent company of my Williamsburg branch. I have since posted my updated review to the Williamsburg location. The shoddy work was carried out by a different branch but the corporate structure seems to cover multiple locations and the problem stems from a management and leadership issue, not just lack of properly overseeing the work.
If I could give a half star or less I would. I hired Green Side Up when I bought our house from the previous owner because we were putting renters in it initially and I wanted to keep the same beautiful lawn that my predecessor had maintained. Unfortunately, somewhere in the time where I had renters in for a year and a half, and we lived out of the country, Green Side Up stopped providing the same level of lawn care. When I asked periodically for feedback from my property management company and GSU, no one told me about the state of the lawn. Imagine my shock and dismay when I returned to see it for myself. Zero weeding or pruning had been done. It was Overgrown, disheveled , and embarrassing. Several emails to GSU went answered. I hired someone else to clean up the back yard. Finally, I threatened to fire GSU immediately, despite having 6 months remaining on a year-long contract (that I had asked to discuss before renewing the year before; of course that request also went unanswered). Since my threat to fire them, I have seen a marked improvement. Apparently GSU has hired new managers to oversee the Crews work. The new manager promised to make it right and do the work to get it back to the state that it should’ve been kept in all along, stating that I had already paid for the work. However, there has been zero discussion about reducing my bill in anyway - A common practice for my inconvenience and the extra time and effort that I had to put in to fight get my lawn to the state that it I am paying for. The fact that I pay over $400 a month and they blatantly didn’t do the work that they were paid to do over the course of at least a year, I would expect a good faith refund of at least one month’s payment. Two weeks ago, I met with the vice president and told him that. He declined. He asked for a few more months to see if they could renew my faith in them as a company. This morning, I got my latest bill which is the same as always. As a result, I am posting this review and have every intention of firing them immediately. Customer satisfaction is easily won and easily lost. You had a chance to correct what you admitted was your fault, but rather than return a small refund to me, the company solution was to say that the crew who did the work at my house didn’t get their annual bonuses. I view this as the management failure not necessarily solely a problem with the workmen. Take your business elsewhere. I intend to. -
GSU was quick to respond when requested a bid and quick to schedule work. The crew was amazing! They were polite, kept us informed, and did a great job installing the cobblestone edging on driveway. Thanks, Craig.

We worked with Bill and his team on a lawn renovation project that included treating existing weeds, installing irrigation, and laying sod. Bill was responsive throughout the process and he and his team did did an excellent job. We're very happy with how the yard looks now and would recommend Green Side Up Landscaping for anyone in the Richmond area.

8/8/25 Update
Ivan, Deris Mejia Sosa and the crew completed a walkway in our backyard flower bed that is nothing short of outstanding. Thank you our GSU crew!
4/21/25 Update - Another 10! Stripped our side yard, (Invasion of neighbor’s unkept yard). Installed a custom 14” deep, custom ordered border to 1” above dirt level. And sodded. These folks care about every job they have done for us and their reputation. You get what you pay for.
Our third time out with GSU in a little over a years. This time replanting the front yard after clearing an overgrown flower bed in November 2021. Ivan and the GSU crew were their usual fantastic selves. On time and very detailed.
The GSU process, through their web site, takes all the guesswork out of the process. Scheduling an appointment was easy. Our design consultant was helpful in suggesting the plants to select.
We give them a solid "10".
Update, January 2024. Mulching was perfect. Dominic and crew exceeded our expectations. Another 10! Thank you.
11/26/24 another perfect experience! Thank you GSU Team. -
Green Side Up executed the planned landscape with thoughtfulness. They offered suggestions when they saw there were problems in the plan. They were proactive in helping with making the landscape livable and easy to manage.

Green Side Up has done a stellar job with our lawn and landscaping. They leave everything looking great, and on top of that, their communication is great, the portal and notifications are great. Great company all around!

Greenside Up leaf blower decides to blow leaves all over cars in front of The Law Offices behind Lexington Commons instead of taken two seconds to peak into the door of the establishment to give business people the option of moving their expensive (some freshly hand washed) vehicles and he was smoking in front of the establishment while doing it as well. He decided to pull out his phone to record me instead of being apologetic for his antics! VERY RUDE!!

GSU did amazing work on my driveway. The team worked well into the evening to complete the project. I was very impressed by their communication and attention to detail. We will definitely use GSU again for future projects.

Small job with big results. Mathew and his team were so customer friendly. Job was done timely and we are more than pleased with final results. Thank you

Absolutely phenomenal experience working with Greens Up landscaping. This is our second time working with them and I’ve been blown away by the communication, professionalism, advice on projects, and their ability to match quality looks with practical fixes (runoff protection/etc.). I would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a landscaping project!

GSU did a phenomenal job removing an existing concrete sidewalk for us. They graded our walkway, put down clay pavers instead of concrete, and added some built-in lighting. We love the finished work. They were professional and easy to work with. The people who did the work on site were courteous, very hard working, and they were very respectful of our neighbors (which was important since our project was right up to our property line). They also went the extra mile to leave our yard as they found it. We’d highly recommend GSU for all your hardscaping needs!

I’ve been a client for seven years. Craig and the team run a first class business. It’s so common to find flaky and unprofessional companies in this space, but these guys are the opposite.

We have been using this company for multiple years and unfortunately have not seen many benefits. Most importantly, the grass increasingly looks awful, patchy, and half is mud or moss - not what we had expected for the prices we pay. Often when problems are pointed out to the company, the very nice service manager will meet with us and we have been given excuses or the option of paying more for different services. After using a lawn care company for over 5 years, we had hoped that they figured out how to maintain our lawn. Overall, the customer service and quality of care about the job they do is lacking. There have been equipment tracks ran across our yard, things are half edged, and they’ve created a mud pit across a majority of the yard. I find it frustrating to be paying a lot of money for professionals to do a half-assed job for years and being told “well that’s how the yard is” - No, we are paying professionals to have these issues taken care of and they have not been handled for years.
We will see how aeration and seeding go this year but so far my husband and I are extremely frustrated. -
When we moved into our house, the yard had not been maintained for quite some time. In the front of our house, there were nandina that had spread like wildfire. There was a tree stump that had been to about 3-4 feet from the ground and branches had started growing from it. There was another tree that look like it came from a sapling and let grow as it pleased. I took out some holly bushes, but it still needed a lot of work. We hired GSU, they came out, removed everything, planted some plants, and laid sod. It looked amazing!!
When they were grinding the stumps, they accidentally hit the cover to our water meter. However, this was not their fault because whoever marked the utilities did not mark the water meter. They even called the utility company, or whoever gives the ok to grind stumps/dig/etc, and they said everything had been marked and they could proceed. The city came out to replace the water meter cover and I guess they had to dig up whatever was around the water meter and install a new one. When doing this, they did not care what it looked like before or after. They dug up our new sod, placed the new water meter cover, then threw dirt around it. I sent GSU a message with pictures and they came out the next day to fix it. They didn't charge me anything additional. Because of their customer service and quality of work, they have a lifelong customer. I highly recommend using GSU for all your landscape needs.
