TLDR: These guys have predatory pricing and will absolutely rob you blind.

Our A/C stopped working in July with temps upwards of 95 degrees. McCarthy had installed our HVAC about 7 years ago, so we called them to figure out the issue. They sent someone else the same day to figure out the issue. He diagnosed a whole bunch of issues, including a gas leak, and said the “quick fix” would cost us in the neighborhood of $2,500. He was not able to fix the issue, and his colleague came out the next day. Tip: never trust the guys who come out with the iPad - they run on commission and are only there to make sales. He (or course) said our best bet would be to replace the HVAC unit and quoted us $14,000. He said if we went with the “quick fix” it would take longer and oh, actually it would cost $4,500, not $2,500 that his colleague quoted the day before. Thank god we got a second opinion, because the HVAC company that WASN’T trying to fleece us fixed the problem the same day for the whopping total of…$450 including parts and labor. The company we went with also said the gas leak was bogus.

STAY AWAY FROM MCCARTHY! They are completely unethical, paid by commission, and only in it to upsell you unnecessarily as much as possible. We have an infant, and I truly believe they tried to pray on our desperation during a heat wave to get us to pay as much as possible.

McCarthy has since contacted and resolved issue very professionally.
Over the past twelve years McCarthy has installed two HVAC systems and provided numerous annual tune-ups.
Up until this last tune-up service I had been very pleased with the service provided by McCarthy, but this last encounter left me very disappointed.
When the technician arrived, he proceeded to the outdoor unit and visually inspected the unit, tightening a couple of screws to address vibration noise and then advised me not to have the refrigerant levels checked because that process would let refrigerants escape and cause problems.
He then proceeded to the inside unit and opened the door to the air filter. Without inspecting the filter, he proceeded to explain that the 4-inch filter system (installed by McCarthy) was problematic as it restricted airflow.
He then launched into a sales pitch for an electrostatic air filter. After listening for a while I told him I was not interested and asked him if he had finished with the interior unit and he responded that he was. He had not checked the unit temperature, airflow level or check for loose wires or thermostat accuracy or any other services listed on the attached coupon.
I then asked him about cleaning the outdoor unit as noted on your coupon (copy attached). He indicated that it would be a couple of hundred dollars more and not covered by the coupon offer, even though the service was listed. He then asked me to pay the $49 for the “service” which I refused as I felt no service was rendered and the visit was a pretense for a sales pitch for the electrostatic air filter.
As I have observed many tune-ups in the past, I find it hard to include this service encounter as a tune-up and will not be paying for something I did not receive.

Technician arrived on time. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He throughly explain the functionality of my HVAC and needed repairs. Mr. Berkeley ensued that my system was I. Top running order when he finished the service. Thank to Mr. Belle and MCCarthy for a job well done!
