My goal was to create a level playing space for our children in our small backyard. A friend had recommended Olympic Rockeries after I received a staggering quote from another company. I saw that Olympic Rockeries had many positive reviews online so I gave a call. I had a rough idea of what we wanted- to maximize our space but still work around some existing trees for privacy and natural beauty. We had already called in a tree removal service to get rid of some stumps and small fruit trees to open the area up. Shinda walked the property with me and made several recommendations for what would blend aesthetically and what was doable. I was very excited to get started on the project right away. His quote for a rockery was significantly less than a retaining wall by a local landscape company. We made some changes to the scope of the project- added some stairs, changed the fill material to gravel, added a planting bed, etc. but Shinda was easy to work with and open to these modifications so that we could create a functional and beautiful space. Near the end of the work, one area was a little smaller than we had originally discussed and he made sure that it got fixed. He even sent photos of the progress while we were out of town. Shinda was a pleasure to work with. He even recommended some other specialists for plantings, artificial grass, and deck repair work that we need to finish the backyard. We have just completed the main rockery work and once we are able to get the deck posts rebuilt Shinda will come back for phase 2 of the work- to add crushed gravel and level the yard for the artificial grass. I got a little nervous when I saw all the big rocks coming in but once they were set up and the yard filled in- it looks great! I would not hesitate to contact Olympic Rockeries for any work you need done!

We had a longstanding drainage issue and the previous owner's attempts to rectify were not successful. Olympic Rockeries installed an all-new shy acre site drainage system to collect and disperse groundwater and downspout runoff.

After weathering the wettest spring in 120 years this year, I can happily say that our lot & crawlspace is dry and everything works as designed.

Olympic worked around issues as needed and made sure we were 100% pleased with the work. Great company and professional crews, and dedicated to making sure they get it right the first time.

While our experience with Shinda and his crew can be summed up in three words: skill, efficiency, and responsiveness, for the sake of producing a qualified and thorough review, I’ll elaborate further…

My husband and I purchased our home nearly three years ago knowing that the very sloped side and back yard were going to require some serious work. Our ultimate goal was to level out and re-grade nearly the entire perimeter of the house (there was a funky hill in the front yard too) in order to gain flat, accessible square footage. The current sloped yard was not only unsightly and unusable, but posed a real safety hazard for our two young kids who could easily fall over the existing rockery onto the street. We also had a really messed up and uneven driveway (so much so that my car would bottom out when exiting the garage), DIY retaining walls on either side of the driveway made out of cinder blocks (!!!), and cracked pebbled concrete stairs leading up to the front door. (Our wish list included fixing these things as well).

From our very first meeting with Shinda he took our vision into consideration and told us exactly what was feasible and what was not. He gave us ideas and provided valuable insight without pushing us in any one direction. He made unique suggestions that enriched our project without racking up unnecessary costs. In fact, from the beginning, Shinda sold us only on what he could deliver. We were never surprised with the bills; all of the financial terms of the contract were clear and consistent.

As for the actual work, well, it speaks for itself. We now have a completely flat front, side and back yard where our children can run and play without toppling over onto the street, a beautiful rock retaining wall surrounding our home, stone retaining walls on either side of the driveway, stone steps leading up to our front door, and a smooth driveway. Whereas before I would cringe driving up to our house, now I can hardly believe it’s the our yard. I never thought I’d beam with so much pride over rocks!

Throughout the project, my husband and I had the chance to talk with Shinda and his crew on a daily basis. They are good people who take tremendous pride in what they do. We’ve come to trust Shinda’s opinion on other aspects of our yard improvement goals and will not hesitate to call on him for future work.

To sum it up, if you are on the fence about who to hire, stop your search and go with Olympic Rockeries. You won’t regret it.

With any contractor, there will be points in the project where there are changes, unforeseen issues, and additional pick up items. The mark of a really good contractor is how well they listen to and collaborate with the customer on reaching resolutions. Shinda is extremely customer-focused and highly accountable for the work he and his team does. He was very diligent about working with us until all the issues were resolved to everyone's satisfaction. We are very pleased with the work that Olympic Rockeries did on our residential hardscape project and would recommend them to anyone.

Wide selection of rocks. JC manning the counter was super nice, easy to talk to. Slight delivery problem at first but Dom, manager, made up for it and made personal delivery of my rocks himself.

Olympic Rockeries & Construction recently completed a rock wall and alpine rock outcropping project for us. It was one of the largest projects on our property to date and we could not be more pleased with the results. The team at Olympic Rockeries & Construction were very responsive, reliable, experienced and took care of our property as if it was their own. We will not hesitate to have them back again and would strongly recommend them.

I found a better deal on ecology blocks through Olympic rockeries. Unfortunately I went with this company and I wish I would’ve paid more to go elsewhere.

It took multiple phone calls emails text to make a purchase to give this company money. In fact, Shinda acknowledge that his service was bad and advise me that he was giving me an extra ecology block for free due to the hassle. He did not do as he said and the blocks delivered were absolutely beat to hell- not what this company advertised.

I rarely feel the need to leave a review, but the service with this company was exceptionally lousy, so I felt compelled.

Olympic ROCKS! They are responsive, creative, and service oriented professionals. We are in the midst of a major remodel, and they were by far the best contractor experience we have had.

Went there on Saturday morning to get a load of rock they were open and had another customer after waiting around for 5 min the guy just rudely said we're closed the yard is closed and gave a business card to the other customer and said here's my bosses number call him for a refund and the just walked into the back office worst customer service in a long time do not waist your time.

We’ve had Olympic Rockeries do two repairs to our older retaining walls. For both repairs, Shinda was on time, communicated clearly, and he and his team got the work done quickly. We’re very happy with the results and trust that our new walls will last!

Fantastic -- our yard looks amazing, not only the owner but all of the workers were both friendly and professional, great communication, competitive prices. We highly recommend! I will attach a picture that includes how they changed an ugly weird slope into a nice terrace (love the steps!) while it was in progress and a finished retaining wall.

I found Shinda's company on google and was impressed with the reviews. I had a failing 75 foot retaining wall made of 30 year old rotting railroad ties. One bad year and I'd have a mud slide from my property down a steep slope and on to Mt Park Blvd SW. Not a good situation. Shinda showed up quickly after my initial call, surveyed the work area and came up with a price that worked in our budget. It took about five days to remove/replace the old rotten wood with large boulders that will last long after I'm gone.

In the back of my mind I always wanted a water garden, pond, waterfall, fish plants and a deep end in which to plunge on hot summer days. Shinda works with a great pond company and they combined forces to artfully create the abstract vision I had for our yard. Colorful natural stones, tree trunks covered with green moss, ferns sticking out of cracks in boulders combined to create a gorgeous natural waterfall, 15x30 feet, and nearly 5 feet deep in one end.

The crew is professional, well trained, very experienced operators with a real eye for pleasing unique results. They arrived early, worked late in all kinds of weather. After their efforts our yard looks like we have a natural waterfall crashing through and over rocks and under moss covered fallen trees.

The final pond is about 5,000 gallons and can send 5 to 15k gallons per hour over the falls.

These guys know what they're doing and very efficient. I would highly recommend them.

I’ve worked with H&S on multiple jobs now. They are very professional, skilled craftsmen. Jobs are organized and clean. I’ve always been able to get in and do what’s needed because the prep and schedule stay on track.

H&S has been fantastic as I've worked to install a egress window in my ADU. Nathan has been patient with the city's permitting process, and he's an excellent communicator who does terrific work. Highly recommended, and I look forward to working with them on future projects!

H&S Construction and Renovation did a fabulous job renovating our attached garage into a living space. They finished the project on budget and schedule. We are thrilled with the results. They are great people to work with and I give them my highest recommendation. I would absolutely use H&S again for future projects.

Nathan and his crew installed built in Shaker cabinets and canned LED lighting in my craft room that were very much needed. I love them. They are perfect for my needs. The men were on time and efficient, and very pleasant to talk with. I would hire them for my future needs any time. I am so sorry for this late review. I was dealing with some serious health issues for the last several months.

Great experience with Sean! He repaired our chimney and did a great job. No more leaks coming down on our children even after that crazy thunderstorms.
