Electrical reviews in Madison, Wisconsin

Having a relationship with this company for over 20 years with unprecedented service and professionalism says it all. We trust Hill Electric for any electrical needs from the simplest of changes to full home renovations.

I had work done by Hill Electric and I thought they charged too much labor time. I called the office 8 times and each time was told someone would call me back about this concern, but no one ever did. A contact through their web site had the same lack of response.
This was very disrespectful.
I ended up paying the charged amount, but I would never use them again. -
Very disappointed. We had Hill come out to figure out what was wrong with the power in our garage. It took them 2 1/2 hours to figure it out and tell us they would give us a quote. The guy also replaced two outlets, even though they will have to be replaced when the garage wiring is fixed. For all of that, they charged $248 and never gave us that quote, plus they used the outlet we bought at Menards for one of the replacements. We've called multiple times in the last two months asking for the quote and are always told that it's on so-and-so's desk, but he's out. We called a private electrician who figured the wiring issue out in 15 minutes and gave us a quote in a day. He charged us nothing for his service. Looks like we'll be going to the other guy.

I had the pleasure to have Terry Kersten provide electrical work and I am SUPER impressed! He was friendly, energetic and just a pleasure to be around. He was super efficient and knowledgeable, making quick work of all of my electrical needs. I'm grateful for the quality work provided by Terry from Hill Electric!

They came today to install a light in my garage I did not know that they charge from the time I called to the time they do the job. No one explained me that.
Aamad was professional no one explained me how this get charged. Aamad took time to explain me how I will get charge I installed a light in my garage. He had a light fixture in his truck. I tried to call several times to the company to see how much will charge me, could not get through. Told him that he called from his phone and they answered right away. That is not good customer services. But the quality of the job was good he was professional and courteous. Please take time to explain how you guys charge. Thank you for your sevices. -
Hill Electric has done an outstanding job for all of us at First Supply for many years. We recently needed them in a pinch, and Andy at Hill Electric worked quickly to get his team to our location within minutes. Tremendous support team at Hill Electric

Electrician was unable to install a simple outside motion detector light. Even when I pointed out he had wires wrong. Said he would come back later to fix. He never did.
Overcharging on parts and screwed up wiring in basement.
We had to hire another elective company to redo the job correctly. "Customer Service" was rude..
Over priced parts and service. -
I just had an electric issue that I thought might be related to work that Hill is currently doing for us and so I gave Victor, our project manager a call. He stopped by the property, checked it out, fixed it up and gave me a call back- all within an hour’s time. And he said no charge this time! Thank you Victor! That’s world class customer service in my book!

I have worked with Hill Electric on two jobs. The first was removal of all knob and tube in my century-old house. Their price was fair and they worked quickly and efficiently to make our wiring safer. They adjusted the work on the fly as needed without haggling about price changes. It was the heat of the summer and they were extremely professional about having to crawl around in a hot attic and work around other contractors. It was a great experience.
On the strength of that experience, we hired them to provide a subpanel and updates in order to install air conditioning in the house. And here's their real strength: I received a call while I was at work saying they noticed a smell of natural gas near the furnace. They recommended I call MGE and offered to meet the gas company. MGE spotted and fixed a leaking valve, all without me leaving work, and all because of the concern Hill Electric provided for my home and my family. I'd recommend them to anybody, especially the team of Rick Walstad. -
I've used Hill Electric for a few different jobs over the years. In the past, I would have rated them 4-5 (which is why I continued to use them). But my recent experience warrants a 2. No fault of the electricians... it is the receptionist who is going to run off business. First, it took me a few days and several calls before I could even get hold of her instead of an answering machine. When you finally do get through, she sounds so disinterested... like "another day, another pain-in-the-butt call I gotta answer". And then... she DROPPED MY APPOINTMENT! I'm here waiting during the scheduled 2-hour window, no one shows up, I give the electrician another 15 minutes, still no show so I call and she says, "Oh, well I wasn't sure whether you had cancelled or not...." You weren't sure? I ~never~ called to cancel it soooo.... ??? This kind of thing has never happened in the past. She didn't apologize, didn't offer any compensation... I mean, people take off work so they can be at home waiting for the electrician to show up... time = money. She said she'd call around and see if any techs were available, then call me back. More than an hour later... still no call... but then again, I called at 11:20 am so maybe she opted to "deal with it later"... after a long lunch break. Unfortunately Hill, it only takes one awful experience like this to make someone consider other electricians in town... I don't want to go through this nonsense again (especially since this incident is still unresolved).

Every month (for over a year) I get a bill even though Ive never received service from Hill. I called and it still hasn’t stopped. Kinda weird having a stalker like that 🤷

Had a difficult situation where some data cabling needed to be run in a tight crawlspace. Hill Electric was able to schedule a visit for same-day and their guys handled the job with ease. Very happy with the quality of work and timely turnaround. Thanks!

Incredible service! We recently bought a house that had a number of electrical issues. The service tech that came out was extremely knowledgeable and very polite. He answered all of our questions honestly and did an impeccable job. I cannot recommend Hill Electric enough!

Wow,was I impressed!! The first company I called did not have an hourly rate. It was $69.00 to come out and then the price is buy the job. Hard to get an idea how much the job will cost until the guy comes over. Cynthia the receptionist told me Hill charges $85. an hour and $21.50 for every 1/4 hour. Ok now I have an idea what it might cost. I new the job wouldn’t take over 2 hours. Ben the electrician took exactly 1and 1/4 hours. Did a great job. When Cynthia called later to settle the bill, she said it was just over1 hour but i’ll call let one hour!!! A company charging less time than it took! I almost fell of my chair. Hill is who I am calling in the future. Nice to deal with a honest company. 😎

I have been using Hill Electric for about 20 years and have always found them to be fast, effective, and reasonably priced.
The only problem is that they do not offer electronic payments, so that I have to excavate my checkbook and look for stamps. -
Despite being booked out for big jobs for two weeks, Jennifer at Hill Electric was willing to work with me and even got my little project on the schedule within 2 days! After calling 2 other electricians with no response, talking to Jennifer right away was outstanding. I will continue to call Hill Electric first for any future needs. Thank you for your excellent service!

Totally unprofessional. Electrician charged us for an additional 30-45 minutes, which I found out when I called to ask about the bill. He left my house by 11:35 after informing me he was done, yet claimed he worked until 12:30. I called back several times for an explanation and never heard anything until I got a bill in the mail. I called again and was told someone would contact me about the dispute, but the next thing I got was a past due bill. I called yet again and was told the late fee ($2) would be waived as I never received a call back regarding the disputed amount. Finally paid the inflated charge and then received a third bill in the mail a month later for $2. They’re total crooks. Do yourself a favor a go with a company that bills on site.

I am a manager for a local store, and called Hill Electric for an electrical issue we had needing attention. They had someone out very quickly-far quicker than I would have ever anticipated! They took care of my issue same day, and saved me a lot of headaches on another ongoing project that could have been delayed, along with inconveniencing our clients further. Great job-thank you so much!!

I had a Hill tech out to replace a bathroom fan, and that part went reasonably well. Called back for a possible labor warranty issue because the fan still wasn't pulling air well and I thought the duct hose might have been kinked by the installer (it took 3 or 4 calls to get somebody to call back and address my concern, leaving my name and number with a live person each time), and rather than tell me over the phone that he had noticed a *different* possible venting issue, the installer came out to tell me in person, which I didn't realize came with a full "service call" charge. On the phone I was told that if the installer *examined* the fan and found the installation wasn't the issue, I'd be charged a service call fee. But he never examined anything, just came to my house to tell me repeatedly why it would be a waste of both our time for him to actually look at it, and I later found out I was billed as though he'd physically inspected his installation work anyway. He easily could have done this over the phone and saved us both a lot of time. But hey, at least he was on site to give me a sales pitch for *another* $500 in service work after the first pointless service charge! When I called to complain, I got the bill reduced but still had to pay $80 to "cover [their] costs," though what those costs were the customer service rep wouldn't tell me. Overall, an immensely disappointing experience, as the company was hard to reach and I felt I wasn't leveled with by anybody.

This is the second time I have used Hill Electric and been very pleased with their work. For both projects, there were always on time and responsive to my emails. The electrician were professional. They seek your input on the work and clean up when done. Highly recommended.

They are much different than a few years ago. Poor customer service and sloppy work.
