HVAC reviews in Tucson, Arizona

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY – ORANGUTAN HOME SERVICES. My family has had a service contract with this company for over 10 years, faithfully having them come twice a year to maintain their heating and air conditioning units. Six months ago, they came out and said they needed $1000 worth of work, and because of their past performance, my sister allowed the work after I suggested getting a second estimate. Recently (and remember now, this is six months later), they came out and said she needed a new a/c system, it would cost $13,000 (the house is approximately 1200 sq. ft.) and they could come out the next day to install it. They also spoke with my brother who authorized the work. When she told me about it, I was shocked, and again suggested a second estimate. My brother has a friend who performs this type of work and asked him to come out the next day to look at the system. In the meantime, my sister called to cancel the installation, was told they could now do the work for $10,000, and because she wanted to cancel the appointment, there would be a 10% re-stocking charge. UNBELIEVABLE! When my brother’s friend looked at the air conditioner, he said there was nothing wrong with it, and should they need a replacement, he could replace the unit for $5,500. I’m not a lawyer, but this almost seems CRIMINAL that a company can do this and get away with it. I see many other reviews that have similar horror stories about this company. My sister has since cancelled her service contract with ORANGUTAN. I heard from other HVAC companies they incent their “technicians” to sell services, and the higher the cost to the customer, the more incentive the technician receives. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.

Same story, wire was said to be chewed through and blew a fuse when the tech tested it, it was working fine before the tech came, so I had to pay $400+ to have the wire replaced. Everytime we have a service call we are paying $. Also, got told that we had "black growth" in our unit. That implies black mold. The technician said that he wouldn't live with that. We had it tested and it is dust. Plain dust. Our Unit is 9 years old and we paid close to $9000 and of course they recommended a new unit. And when I've compared with other companies, it is well over the market price of services. Just call and compare before you pay $1000's of add'l repairs. They seem very nice but when you question, there is no response.

My Mother had new heating and cooling units installed. In the beginning there was a lot of confusion and misunderstanding. With the help from Heather on the phone and Dave in Tempe ( with operations), and Chris Wynn a Tech. All 3 are People People and everything worked out Fine !!!!!!!!!!!

The worst!!!!!!! What ever could go wrong went wrong, equipment was 6 hours late in coming, ac installers were here till past 11pm. I had to clean up the mess. Plumber installed outside filter system, leaking when he left. Tried to install different water heater than one. ordered, came with right one later. Installed water heater by ripping out my solar hot water valves, and mickey mousing (sorry mickey) it back together. Leaving out the the all important mixing valve( required by code ). Eventually someone returned to install one (their way). Still not working the way the old one was. What a MESS!!!!! Too bad they made their money off of me, but they will not make any money off the people I know

These guys are rip off artists. They came and installed a new AC at my sisters home and had to replace condenser and coil’s within the first year, still manage to charge her excessive amounts for the “labor”. Over and over they came out always saying it was some different problem and never worked right. The final straw was when they told said she needed $3300 of repairs in a new coil and Freon. The coil had already been replaced by another company. The technician didn’t even spend 10 minutes testing the system before coming up with this. If I could give zero stars I would. Definitely do not use this company.

I’d give them 1 1/2 star if that was possible only because, the new installation was fine and it’s worked since perfectly for over a year now and they installed the original over 12 years ago and it worked great too. Now that the new one is in though they are trying to charge us $2000 for a check up maintenance that never happened, saying our signature is there and everything. DON’T EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. I wished I had seen the reviews ahead of time.

My aunt has had a maintenance agreement with them since they were known as American Home Services. During the latest "service call" last Friday, the tech said that there was an issue but would have someone with more experience come on Saturday to verify.
On Saturday the new tech came out and told my aunt that a new unit had to be installed because the compressor had melted the wiring in the unit and as a result warm/hot air was blowing out. Yet, on Friday before the first tech came out, the unit was working fine. The cost for a new unit: a steal at $6,800.00 because my aunt was a "valued customer". My aunt, trusting this man, agreed to have the unit installed and financed. The tech confirmed that she would not be charged until the install was complete and she was satisfied.
I did some research on this company and found one star reviews everywhere. The scenario similar. An older woman, vulnerable to be taken advantage of, told that a new unit would be the only way to fix her problem. I called Manny at Green Comfort A/C Service who I completely trust. He came out and after examining the unit and determined that one of the techs had loosened a ground wire enough to make it seem like the unit was needing to be replaced. He tightened the wire and now the unit is blowing cold air as before.
Conclusion. There was nothing wrong with the unit other than the age of it (11 years). So, this company tried to take advantage of my aunt for $6,800.00 plus financing interest when all it needed was a one minute re installation of a lose wire that couldn't have possibly happened accidentally. This was done on purpose to sell her a new expensive unit.
When it comes time to replace this unit, we are staying far away from Orangutan Home Services. Check out all the review sites for yourself.
A letter to the State Attorney General, the BBB and the Registrar of Contractors are next.
And by the way, with so many one star reviews, you would think that Orangutan would try to reach out and make whatever issue right with the client.

THIEVES! When I bought my house nearly 20 years ago I purchased a service contract with a company called American Home Maintenance and was overall satisfied with their level of service, in spite of numerous negative reviews. Since then, the company has gone through various iterations (to avoid legal problems?) and my experience with them has been a very mixed bag. One grubby-handed technician came by with his tweaker pal who talked my ear off. Others tried (sometimes with success) to sell me gizmos I probably didn't need. But the other day a so-called technician called Trevor Franco came for the scheduled winter check-up, and informed me I needed to replace my whole system, which is only 8 years old --the same one the last technician installed a costly gizmo on that he said would extend the life of the system by 7 or more years. He showed me photos of cracked compressors and the like to frighten me, said that I should replace the system immediately before it killed me with CO, etc. and suggested we do it the following day. When I told him that I was leaving town in the morning and wouldn't be able to schedule anything until the following week, he kept pushing to do it the next day. I should have seen a red flag flying, but scheduled it for several days later. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth, so I called another heating/refrigeration company (the more trustworthy company that installed it) to take a look at my system today and they assured me that it's FINE, and should last another ten years. I have cancelled the install, obviously, and have informed Orangutan I will no longer use their service --EVER. How do these people sleep at night?

They didn't call before they showed up and when they did they were not organized and they went to lunch before they showed up. So when they got the ac/furnace disconnected they didn't have a crane here to remove the old ac so they can set the new ac in place. They didn't bring the furnace filters that day and they didn't butt the ac until up to the house, now I have a gap between the house and the ac unit. They told me that they would come back out and finish the job. Its been a week since the work first started. And I am still waiting for them to finish the job. Its 5 o'clock now and they told me that they would be here between 12 noon today and 5 o'clock today. So if anyone is thinking about using this company take my advice and call any other company. But do not use this company. Or you may be sorry you ever did. I would have to give this company a big fat zero for a review

I haven't used this company for several years because they are RIP OFFS!
My breaker tripped MANY TIMES several years ago and I was told I needed a new unit. ( I had already replaced the compressor a year previously, and my unit was only 6 years old.)
Fast forward...there was NOTHING wrong with my unit! The problem was a SHORT between the unit and my breaker box.
NO DIAGNOSTIC CHECKING from these crooks, they just wanted to sell a new unit to me! My house could have caught fire because of their lack of diagnostics!
RUN AWAY from these rip-off artists!!! -
Your technician STEVE was excellent. He took time to explain how the safety defaults for our gas furnish works. During his troubleshooting found a high burner ignition switch malfunctioned. Steve fixed the problem and was confident this was why we had no heat when it got very cold outside. Thanks very much. Very happy.....Carl

We have been without heat for the past 24 hours. Reiner, the technician, showed up only 2 hours after we called and got our furnace running properly. Reiner was friendly, courteous, and so professional in getting our heat back on. We would highly recommend Reiner.

Technician Craig Mohr came all the way down from Phoenix and did maintenance quickly and professionally. We had a problem with one of their technicians in the past, so I’m happy that they sent Craig.

I had my A/C maintenance checkup with John and Jay they were very professional and friendly. They replaced a OEM capacitor to extend the life of my compressor. They also replaced a Air Purification System they explain every thing I needed to know and showed me pictures of the items and work that was done on my unit. Had a good experience with both of them I highly recommend both of them they are both a good asset to your company. Will request them to come back next visit thank you.

This company is A fraud and a sham. I am in Tucson and they do not tell you that they are coming from Phoenix and then they attempt to charge you for travel time from Phoenix to Tucson. How absurd is that. Once they got here, they told me that he had never serviced this particular problem before with my steam room, but wanted to charge me twice. The amount of previous plumber had offered to pay for. I will stay away from this company in the future and I suggest thay others do the same.

This company is number 1 for a reason, that would be
Andrew and Dwayne.
They work nonstop. Installed A/C and heat unbelievable work ethic. Can’t thank Andrew and Dwayne enough. Thank you Orangutan home services! -
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.
The service people are generally adequate and sometimes fabulous and worthy of four stars, but they are always trying to sell add ons themselves. Hence the two star rating.
The company itself is a den of thieves and rip off artists. Six years ago, give or take, they installed a new heat pump that failed after less than 5 years. One day after I had cataract surgery in the middle of the broiling hot AZ summer it just stopped working. A technician and a salesman (that should have been a dead giveaway but as I was only one day after surgery that required a fair amount of sedation I was clearly not at my best) came. They told me a big part had broken and with the labor it would cost big bucks for what was a bandaid solution and proceeded to upsell me a $20,000 unit PLUS the lifetime maintenance program for another ten grand.
I needed cooling so I signed on the dotted line. Later, I had another company come look at it who said it could be repaired for far less than I had already committed to, but what was done was done.
The sales manager that I dealt with was completely obnoxious. I suspect they sell repurposed units to unsuspecting older people (I’m 75 but I look 60), especially single women. Were it not for the fact that they convinced me to buy the maintenance package I would no longer be a customer. I had a dispute with them as I was still paying for the unit that crapped out that required the BBB to resolve.
Horrible company when it comes to sales. -
This is the worst company I am beginning a legal process against them. I bought and A/C about five years ago paid $10,000 for it and when I paid it off within a year I was told that it was a lemon they put me in an emergency situation because my husband was seriously ill and I need air at once so I told their offer to lease an A/C . My husband passed and I have been leasing for 4 years. The unit is so loud my neighbors complained I call for service and they tell me that I need an additional part if I don’t own the product why do I have to pay for parts to make it work properly? I checked my balance on the lease and to date July 17, 2025 I still owe $17,000. My payments are $235.00 per month I have been paying the lease for 4 years.
