We contracted Casa Utopia for a maior renovation (complete kitchen remodel, addition of another bedroom, flooring, upgraded electrical) of our SFH in 2024. They understood our requirements and budget and came up with architectural and structural design plans. In this process they were very patient and refined the plans until we were completely satisfied. They also helped us with getting the required permits and design approval from the city.We also had help from their in house interior designers who recommended finished materials(flooring, cabinets, paints, hardware) and sourced the them from reliable vendors. Once all permits were available the team at Casa Utopia were very efficient in implementing the design. The project was managed professionally and there was very good communication between us to ensure that the work gets done in time, within budget and good quality. I would definitely hire them for my future project and recommend them to others who want a worry free experience in remodeling their house.

We recently completed a home extension project with Elior & his team -- added a new bedroom and bathroom, and extending our existing master bedroom. Overall, the quality of work and timeline exceeded our expectations.
At first, we started working with another company which did not go well. Later we switched over to Casa Utopia & Elior & I'm so glad we did. Elior provided valuable suggestions on how we can change the design & fit our needs within our budget.
The team completed the project ahead of schedule, which is a huge plus. They were dedicated -- working weekends and ensuring all city inspections were done on time.
They proactively fixed issues with the existing sub-floor and added extra rain protection to prevent delays or damage during construction.
The designer was helpful with bathroom design choices -- offering practical advice like selecting fixtures made entirely of brass and pointing us to good material sources.
Even after the contract officially ended, Elior agreed to come back and install ceiling fans for us, which we really appreciate.
Communication & Project management could be better but overall I'm very happy with the output.

While the design phase felt a bit long—largely because we reconsidered our initial color scheme—the effort was well worth it. Once the design was finalized, the construction process itself was a breeze. Raz was especially proactive in scheduling city inspections, which kept project delays to a minimum. He maintained clear communication throughout, addressed every concern, and ensured the work was finished to the highest standard. We highly recommend Raz for his professionalism and expertise with city officials, and we look forward to working with him again on future projects.

We recently completed a house extension and full remodel with Elior and the Casa Utopia team in Fremont, and the experience was outstanding. We recently moved into a home that was built in 1977 and apart from some appliances, almost everything was original. We were in store for a huge home improvement project. We needed to redo: all the floors, the kitchen, 3 bathrooms, living room, family room, exterior/interior paint, windows, and fireplace. We meticulously searched for a contractor. We messaged 8 and met with 4. Casa Utopia instantly stood out due to their professionalism and attention to detail. In terms of cost they were somewhere in the middle but it still felt fair and reasonable. It also felt justified based on past projects they had shown us. They do amazing work! They have interior designers (shout out to Rinat) that work with you to customize each space to your liking while providing their professional input when needed. They put together renderings based on your selected finishes to make sure you like everything before you start purchasing material. I’ll share photos of some of our renderings. During the construction process, the project manager (shout out to Raz) did a great job communicating with us and he made sure to send progress pics to keep us in the loop. We have heard horror stories about contractors and are so glad we virtually had no issues or complaints. We recommend Casa Utopia to all our friends, family, and coworkers any chance we get. We were looking to remodel our guest bathroom and interview several companies. In the end we chose to go with Casa Utopia. Robert met us at their main office and reviewed options that we had and then we met with Kathia their designer to pick out tiles and hardware. Prices were competitive. But more important - communication was great. Marcos came to our house and did everything from demo to installation. We could have gone cheaper to fix the issues but are way more happier with the final product. If you are looking to do some work on your home I would highly recommend Robert and the crew on your next project. We will plan to use them for our future projects as well.

We had an excellent experience with Casa Utopia and with Elior as our general contractor for our major home remodel. Our remodel was complex with multiple phases. We made a lot of changes and a lot of additional work from the original scope.

1. We can now say with confidence that Elior is a very honest person. This is a very important trait for remodeling. A trustworthy contractor is essential.
2. Our remodel was complex and we added on many additional items after the work had begun. Elior was very accommodating with the changes. As a matter of fact, some of the changes which we liked were Elior’s suggestions based on his experience.

Overall, Elior is an honest, trustworthy and very accommodating general contractor. We are extremely happy having worked with him on a complex home remodeling project and highly recommend Elior.

From start to finish, they were on time, detail-oriented, and incredibly accommodating of all our input. What really set them apart was the communication. They explained everything clearly and flagged issues that weren’t even in the original scope — like asbestos we didn’t know about — and walked us through options instead of just leaving it to us.

They handled the asbestos abatement and even took point on our PG&E upgrade, staying on top of it despite the long follow-up period that came with it. When supplier delays popped up, they took point and either pushed to get the materials in time or re-sequenced the work to keep us on schedule.

Their planning and execution were excellent. We had rain delays and a few unplanned repairs pop up, but they worked through every issue and still delivered on schedule. You can tell they take pride in the details and finishing the job right.

If you want a contractor who’s reliable, transparent, and actually cares about the quality of your home, this is the team to hire. 5 stars.

We chose Roberto / REF Builders over 3 other contractors to add 900sqft to our house and change the existing layout to go from 4 bd/2 bth, to 5 bd/3.5bth. We remodelled everything - it very was close to a complete tear down.

I would highly recommend REF based on our experience. Their quote came in reasonably priced. Roberto, his crew and sub-contractors were honest, transparent, flexible, hard working, and perfectionists. They went above and beyond to work around our need to accommodate our need to stay in the house, while delivering quality work on time.

Roberto himself is a perfectionist, noticing imperfections we didn't even see, and fixing them himself. He treats his work as a craft and takes pride in it. His sub-contractors are the same, with his painter especially, as well as his electrical and plumbing guys all being exceptional. Frequently surfacing suggestions to improve upon original lighting and plumbing plans when they saw the architects plan wouldn't work as well. They really want to get it right for the customer.

When unforseen work came up (e.g. moving the sewer line) he did his best to make sure he priced the additional work, accounting for our budget, frequently offering to cover labor if we wanted to cover material for small improvements he saw he could make. A great example: We weren't planning to replace existing siding and just have new siding match. However after demo, there was only a small section of old-siding left. He offered to replace that last chunk, without charging labor, if we covered the material, so we were set for the next many years.

The best example of his customer-centric attitude: The architect we used messed up the positioning (off by many feet) of a 700lb 60ft vaulted ceiling beam in their plans. We noticed this after Roberto and his crew had already installed it, and started to build roofing on top of it. The architect suggested we would have to pay for their mistake to re-do the plan. Roberto stepped in feeling this wasn't fair to us, took on the cost of tearing it down again, and moving it to a new position to meet structural needs, while making it aesthetically pleasing (some of the photos here, are of that beam). This customer-focused attitude shows up in all aspects of the project.

Roberto delivered the project on time, it looks fantastic, and he also helped us work around PG&E delays.

I'd highly recommend considering Roberto and REF for your construction needs - whether complex or simple. They're customer-centric perfectionists.

We used Roberto and his team (REF builders) to renovate our entire house. We added 750 sq, i.e added an additional bathroom, new roof, extended our living room/kitchen and rearrange our bedrooms. It’s was a complete gut job. Roberto helped us keep within our budget and on track.

He and Paola made the city inspection a breeze and took care of the PG&E upgrade as well.
His team worked almost everyday so that we can move in before our baby was due. Roberto and Paola are a great couple, easy to work with and very considerate.

All renovations has it’s issues and Roberto tried his best to fix it. If we could do it over we would change several things but we would definitely hire Roberto and his team for the job.

Its the main spot we hangout in at our house now. We have given his number to friends and family. Roberto was always in communication and was on site often. This is a first-rate company they do major construction the very detailed and I'm glad there hear serving the community

From what I read this is a fantastic company to hire. But the company does have to take responsibility for the raging simpletons driving around out there bearing their name. Turned right in front of this idiot from a quarter mile out, with traffic moving at 35-40. He sped up, swerved into incoming traffic, and cut us off again by 10 feet, just to get one car length in front of us and stay there for the next 10 miles.

Blocking sidewalk and bike lane in a very busy intersection with blind corners and no crosswalk. They have scaffolding over part of the sidewalk, and then it dead ends so you’re trapped in a tunnel. Only option is to either turn around and walk a block to another street or risk getting hit by a car trying to go around their vehicles. Lawsuit waiting to happen.
