I give businesses every chance to do the right thing and almost never leave 1-star reviews. Unfortunately, this experience felt dishonest and misleading, leaving me no choice.

I paid Roto-Rooter $450 to clear a blockage in my main 3” sewer line. The line was still clogged the very next day, which tells you everything you need to know about the quality of their work.

They sent out a field supervisor, Jose, with a sewer camera, who claimed the problem was a broken clay sewer pipe (a so-called “mudball”, most likely a collapsed pipe) and said the entire sewer line should be replaced. In the video, he showed that his camera could not pass the mudball, and the options are to replace the entire sewer line or just the section where the pipe collapsed.

The moment I told him I would be getting other estimates, his attitude changed completely.

Here’s the truth: the sewer pipe was NOT broken or collapsed. The issue was a root ball, which was easily removed by re-snaking the sewer line. Then another sewer camera was sent down the sewer pipe, taking pictures and videos showing no clogs, and no pipe replacement was needed.

This was a blatant upsell attempt and a complete waste of $450. Based on my experience, this company cannot be trusted. Use extreme caution or hire someone else.

I highly recommend Roto-Rooter Plumbing! They sent out Jerry and he came out on a Sunday to take a look at my clogged bathtub and provide an estimate for repair. He was very professional, fair, and honest throughout the process. I really appreciated his transparency and the fact that he didn’t try to upsell anything. I ultimately decided to move forward with a remodel instead, and he was completely understanding — even refused to charge for the visit. It’s rare to find someone so respectful and trustworthy these days. I’ll definitely be calling Jerry again for future plumbing work!

Rick came out and repaired a broken water
Spigot (broken in the copper pipe). He was very thorough, explained what he was doing, tested thoroughly and got it right. He was kind enough to let me observe without complaint. The water heater repair involved replacing a frozen shut off valve. Again, thorough and well done.

Timothy was my technician and Roto Rooter got the job because they showed up first. I tried my best to fix the plumbing issue we had in our home on a Sunday afternoon with no success. Timothy took care of the problem and made sure to clean up after himself. The job was wrapped up in no time. Only issue was I didn’t get an invoice for the work because Timothy said he was out of them and that the office would reach out after the weekend to get me one. It took a while but John from the Livermore office reached out and made things right. Overall the customer service was on point. I would recommend Roto Rooter to family and friends. They get the job done and in the end they get it done right.

Rick was professional, friendly and efficient. He explained everything and treated me like I could understand it. Which I very much appreciate. No hard core sales pitch, just facts that helped me decide.

Within 15 minutes I received a call from Katria. She confirmed an appointment and explained the assigned plumber would call me , and set up a time to come.

Jerry called, I described the issue, we were able to narrow down the problem (most likely).

He came out within a reasonable timeframe, told me the price after he checked it out externally , and I agreed.

After removing the toilet, he looked and found the issue as he had suspected:

The past contractor who upgraded our bathroom and installed the toilet had put in the wrong kind of seal.

The first photo is two small seals, that don’t seal to fill the gap.

Instead, as shown in photo 2, Jerry put in a 2” wax seal that would fix the problem of air gap, which also caused a slightly unpleasant smell at times (no leakage of excrement thank goodness! 😅)

Jerry zoned right in on the problem with lazer focus, and did not do anything that was unnecessary.

Some people might say it’s pricey, but I would rather have peace of mind knowing that the plumber knows what they are doing and is fair in the dealings with unexpected add ons.

I also have had the unpleasant experience of witnessing all the problems caused by a plumber that did not know what they were doing at my parent’s property. Believe me, years of leakage can cause HUGE problems and big $$$$!

Do not do business with them because they are negligent and show a want and disregard for human life.

Roy was awesome! He fixed our water heater and sorted out an issue with the bathroom shower that had been driving us crazy. He showed up on time, knew exactly what he was doing, and got everything working again without any fuss not to mention best quote we got, it felt like forever trying to find a reasonable quote, these other guys are legally robbing if they’re charging those prices.

Super friendly, explained things in a way that made sense, and left the place clean. If you need a solid, no-nonsense plumber, Roy’s your guy. Highly recommend!

I recently just had some work done by Roy a great plumber. He was prompt, professional, and quickly assessed my leaky faucet and a weird and questionable build up.

Roy explained the issue, he was also able to explain everything to my Spanish speaking relatives clearly and provided a fair estimate compared to all these other guys other guys, He fixed the leak and made further improvements and ensured everything was working before leaving.

His friendly attitude made me feel trustworthy of him . If you need a reliable plumber, I highly recommend

We needed our sewer lateral replaced. Fred from Star Rooter is a professional and flexible. He got right on the permits and was very easy to work with. His crew was efficient and helpful.

My only recommendation is to make sure you go over all the details before the work starts. For instance, I didn't realize the clean out would have to be relocated and I'm glad I was at home to discuss it and ask if it could be done a certain way. They finished in a day and things seem to be going well with the sewer system.

We have used star rooter various times through the years. For small things like a plug drain two big job such as replacing all the piping from the street to the house. They have always come very quickly once we have called. They work long and hard days. Until the job is finished.

I had a great experience with Alex and team last week. My plumbing backed up on Friday evening with a houseful of people who needed water! I went to a party where a friend gave me the number for Star Rooter. Yeah! The owner contacted me shortly after and sent Alex out to evaluate the problem. He did a quick fix, fully explained the issue, and scheduled an overhaul of my deteriorating plumbing under the house a few days later. The workers were clean, efficient and respectful. Had a pretty stressful weekend when my house backed up, and after a couple plumbers came by, I was told I needed a full pipe replacement because of broken lines. Luckily, I found Star Rooter Plumbing—they got back to me the same day and came out the next morning to check things out.

We’ve had Fred and his team do a couple of big jobs for us as well as some smaller jobs. This week we had copper pipes installed from the street to our entire house. Fred and his team did everything from the trenching to installing the new shower fixtures on our 60 year old house. They are fast and efficient. Fred always takes care to follow up and make sure you’re happy with the work. Highly recommend. And they were the best priced as well!
