We've been stuck without AC for years, like many in Sunnyvale who built their homes without it. As summers get hotter, the desire to install a system is growing. The main obstacle we faced was our house's 100A service - all previous HVAC vendors claimed we needed 200A capacity. However, our underground conduit is only 2 inches in diameter, which meets National Electrical Code requirements but PG&E insists on 3-inch conduit for 200A service. Digging up the street for a 3-inch conduit costs around $20K, including fees that PG&E adds to the contractor's bill.

The Bryant slimline heat pump outside is very quiet, while the air handler in the house makes a low-pitched hum that's barely bothersome. It's comparable to our old furnace, which was also relatively quiet. Sam and his crew (Jake and Ha) are honest and straightforward. They're polite and clean up after themselves every day.
