We’ve had John over a few times over the years. He always does a wonderful job but not just that he is very honest and trustworthy. He walks you through different options and explains what is going on. I can’t recommend him enough. He’s the only one I would call if I need something taken care of.

John was absolutely awesome, coming out on a Saturday morning to get our furnace working again. He was able to diagnose the problem quickly (bad circuit board) and already had a new circuit board in his truck that could replace it.

He explained about everything he was doing and was extremely friendly. After I mentioned that there was a whistling noise (unrelated to furnace itself) coming from the air intake inside the house, he took a look, figured out what was causing the noise and had a quick, inexpensive solution for it. Now I am able to use the heat and no more whistling noise!

Before he left, John even helped clean out the dryer vent duct, which definitely needed the attention.

The furnace is up there in age, but John’s work will hopefully get me several more years out of it before it is replaced. Whenever that happens, I will be in touch with John to install a new one.

I rarely post reviews but I have to recommend John Salus. He first came to correct a furnace issue, which he did promptly, honestly, and fairly. Today he checked our water heater and gave honest and fair advice when others could have easily taken advantage of us. John is the best!

I've worked with John and Core Heating & Air twice now, and he will always be our go-to for support with our heating/AC. He's extremely knowledgeable and experienced; meticulous about his repair work and getting to the bottom of a problem; and devoted to carefully addressing the issue at hand -- without cutting corners or cheating the customer of high quality repairs. John came out the same day I messaged and was thoroughly delightful and efficient. Rather than sell me on a new furnace unit or parts I did not need, he cleaned my older unit and replaced two parts. John even patiently showed me how to clean the filter and do minimal maintenance in between yearly service checks. This is important to single mom types…lol. My pets loved him too! CORE is my new HVAC permanent contact

It's hard to find people you can trust, but John is the real deal. Went above and beyond, and still charged a fair price. He has become my go to guy for heater issues.

Best repair experience ever!
My AC went out in 105 degree heat. I called CORE at 3 yesterday and John was here at noon today. He tested and diagnosed the problem in minutes. He Replaced a part, cleaned the unit, checked the furnace and even noticed a melting plastic part on top of the furnace. His bill was very reasonable, much less than I feared. In addition, John is very polite and friendly. My dog immediately loved him!

John did us a solid a couple days ago when my attempt to install a nest thermostat didn't go all that well. We started to panic with the heating not working properly, extremely cold weather, and a newborn at home. Almost every other service we called were days if not weeks out. John came to our place that same day and looked over our whole system, fixed existing wiring issues, made sure everything was working properly and installed the nest properly all within an hour and even managed to teach me a few things and how to maintain things myself.
He's an extremely nice guy to chat with and very reasonably priced. He will be the first person I contact now for any HVAC related issues.

John is fantastic! He's the owner and only worker here. He came out to service my HVAC system. He was prompt, thorough, meticulous, and went well and above anything I had asked him to do, just because he wanted to maker sure that everything was set up and operating perfectly. He even noticed some issues that no one else had caught. He saved us a lot of potential future trouble and expense. He's the nicest service provider I've ever had at my home; kind, respectful, a solid human being. I highly recommend him! Because he's a one-man show, I felt lucky to have gotten his time:)

I am so very grateful to John at Core Heating & Air Conditioning Repair. I have an older wall heater that hasn't worked in many years because PG&E and other heating service techs told me that it was not fixable. I actually hired Core to replace a burned out pilot light part on a freestanding gas space heater and when John asked about my wall heater, I explained that I was told by two service crews that it wasn't fixable but he wanted to take a look. He quickly found the issue and had it working within the hour! And really worked with me to ensure that fixing it was within my budget. Then he insisted on checking my attic to check the heating pipe since the wall heater hadn't been used in so many years. Core Heating & Air Conditioning has my business for life!

John was great, extremely fast response getting here. Troubleshot our AC, found a pretty rare fault, diagnosis and repair happened quickly. He even took the time to clean up and do some extra maintenance on our system. Fair price, fast service, third time using his service, best in town!

We have an old wall heater that was in desperate need of repair. We called John, got his voicemail so we left a message. We were called back within minutes. Luckily John was able to come out within 20 minutes of us calling him. He was great in explaining everything that he was doing and why he was doing it. He is very conscientious about his work and is very detail oriented. He even took time to clean the heater. He made sure to ask us about having a fire detector and carbon monoxide alarm since the heater was old. We appreciated that extra care of concern. He is very knowledgeable and extremely kind. We called him due to all his great reviews and everything everyone says is true!! We could not be more happy with the service and friendly conversation we had with John.

First time needing AC repair, and Core was everything I could want in a maintenance service. John was professional, friendly, and passionate about his work. He had my AC up and running quickly and enthusiastically explained what he was doing and why as he did it, and provided maintenance tips on how I can keep the system running longer myself. Overall the service was outstanding, the rate was fair, and I feel that Core's integrity left a solid impression.

CORE Heating and Air Conditioning is now my family's go to company for everything HVAC. I worked on a project in conjunction with John, the owner, and it couldn't have gone better. Since then, John has repaired issues with my father's heating and air conditioning, installed ductless mini split units on our building for our company, and is about to install a new ductless mini split system on my house. He is professional, punctual, fair priced, does extremely clean installs, is a wealth of knowledge, and above all, an honest straight shooter that stands behind his work. Seriously amazing. I will be recommending him to everyone I know.

This may be the second review on Google that we have written about Core Heating & Air, and the third time that John has been out to help with heating issues here in Penngrove. I do not have enough superlatives to describe John's outstanding service-- he truly cares about ensuring that your HVAC issue is handled in the most professional and workmanlike way possible.

The first time he was out, John serviced our furnace which another contractor had said needed to be replaced. That was bunk and John's service restored the furnace to perfect working order.

John's second visit was much needed and he responded ASAP to diagnose a circuit board that needed to be replaced. He also addressed a noise issue on the air intake with a clever solution that I had not considered although I am handy with home projects and repairs that don't need a high level of expertise. John did a great job and the furnace's life has been extended for several more years-- when we need to replace it, we will call Core Heating!

But this third visit (July 2023) was the most complex project, with a new installation of a 35,000 BTU heater, specifically the gas lines and valves, for a small greenhouse. John caught a safety error in the mounting of the unit by the contractor that constructed the greenhouse (and was not noticed by the electrician who wired the unit) and fixed it. He figured out how to best place the gas pipes, and then connected and mounted those lines for the propane, including all the necessary valves, etc. His charge was reasonable and very much in line with the high level of service he provided.

All three experiences with Core have been outstanding-- I would give more than 5 stars if possible. If you are lucky enough to be in John's service area and he can get you into his schedule, do yourself a favor and get him out for your HVAC repair, replacement or installation!

Where to start - John set a new record for my work with contractors!
Responsiveness - showed up within an hour of my phone call explaining our central heating was not working.
Communication - carefully explained everything he was going to do/test and the result.
Diagnosis - after over 23 years of service, our heater was failing to a point beyond repair.
Result - John specified and ordered a new heater, removed the old heater (the same day) and two days later delivered, installed and tested the new heater - we couldn't be more satisfied!

John is an honest and hardworking business owner. He fixed my AC on the hottest day of the year when it suddenly stopped blowing cool air. He is thorough in his process and he takes the time to check everything and explain everything. I have used other companies so I have a base of comparison and John is far superior. I won’t be using anyone but him. Thank you Core!

John was informative and took his time to deal with problems we had with our furnace and air conditioner. He spent four hours at our house to methodically clean and repair our HVAC issues.Other companies told us that we needed a new furnace and air conditioner. John was amazing! I called him late Friday evening and he was here by 9:55 Monday morning. Not only is he professional, but he's very knowledgeable and friendly. You can tell he truly cares about his clients. I would 100% recommend him for the job. Plus his pricing was incredibly fair. He even came back to ensure there weren't any gas leaks. Calling him thorough would be an understatement. I could go on and on about how awesome he was!

Our A/C fan failed on Sunday, John came out on Tuesday to begin repair, new fan arrived on Friday night, and John was out on Saturday morning to install it. Removing the fan was difficult but John quickly figured it out. But wait, there’s more: he gave the A/C unit an inspection and found it was low on coolant. By the time he left, we had a better system than when he arrived in multiple way. Call John next time you need HVAC work. He is truly outstanding.

I hate having to reach out to service providers and find new people to work at my house!
