Appliance Repair reviews in Van Nuys, California

This company is absolutely terrible. Their "repair man" (genuinely questionable if he is capable of fixing anything - he is certainly not licensed or certified to do any sort of repair) came out to evaluate our refrigerator. After his inspection, which left a mess of our kitchen, they said a part of the computer was broken and they would need to order a part which would be there in 2-5 business days. Fast forward to THREE WEEKS later. After finally getting the part, they came back to install the part. I am not joking when I tell you that the "repair man" was sitting in our kitchen watching YouTube videos on how to fix the refrigerator. Not only did he not solve the problem, but he made it worse and we are back in this stupid, continuous loop with this company because they are seemingly our only option through First American Home Warranty. To First American Home Warranty, PLEASE READ THE REVIEWS - no one wants to work with them. It is a miracle that this place is still in business. Seemingly they only are because people are contractually obligated to work with them. If you have any agency in the process CHOOSE ANOTHER COMPANY. Side fun fact - they will not connect you to a supervisor on the weekends. This place is an utter joke and should not be in business.

MAKE SURE YOU RECORD YOUR TECHNICIAN!!
Completely fraudulent company. The technician for my dishwasher was caught on camera saying there was a drainage issue but when he submitted his report to American Home Shield he cited a completely different issue that was coincidentally not covered because it was deemed “misuse” by us. This is the definition of insurance fraud. -
Company is a joke. Short notes: The tech tells you he will come back to repair with a part, and they will deny service and not tell you.
Called AHS to to fix a microwave. The door itself will not latch.
Technician Andy shows up, opens up the microwave and says he needs to get a part. He will be in contact to schedule the repair once the piece comes back in.
A few days later I check the status on AHS, it says the case is closed due to misuse. I call the company and speak with Angelica who will gatekeep Management and the manager John. I also call Andy the technician. No one here will take ownership. Their responses include "I need your address" , "I left my paperwork in the office", "They are not available", and "Contact Management". The tech told me he visits 2 locations a day - and apparently he can't recall a repair he did a week ago and does not know when he will be in the office to review his paperwork. P.S. They make you sign a waiver saying they are not liable for any damage during the repair.
I opened up the microwave, I noticed a tab holding in the glass door is broken. Was it broken before? Potentially. Regardless I am able to connect the spring back to the locking mechanism and fix the microwave in under 20 minutes. There was no need for any additional parts and this could have been resolved on the first visit.
I am waiting for a call back from "management". The manager John will not accept any calls. The phone team will "forward the message to him". I just want to know why there is such a difference from what is promised to what is actually delivered.
Do yourself a favor, hire someone else or fix it yourself. -
We are a property management company that hires appliance repair companies all the time. We had a very bad experience dealing with Active Appliance. From our recent experience, they proved to be unprofessional, dishonest and dismissive.
Fidelity Home Warranty scheduled Active Appliance as the service vendor for our warranty claim. We had never used Active Appliance before, but scheduled it for two days later. On the day of the scheduled service, the technician did not arrive during the 8am - 11am time window. At 11:30am, our tenant called Active Appliance to check on the arrival time. He was told by Active's customer service rep that the technician had been on-site a couple of hours ago, but couldn't find parking so they left for another job. Our issue with that is the tech had the tenant's phone number on the work order. All he had to do was call and tenant would have given him on-site visitor parking. Instead, he just left.
To make matters worse, when our tenant asked the Active customer service rep why didn't the tech just call, he was told that the tech did call the tenant but no one answered. Our tenant double checked his phone to make sure he didn't miss the call. Active's response was to dishonestly blame our tenant. That's completely unprofessional. Did they own their mistake and move on? No, it got worse.
So what happened when we try to reschedule? Active Appliance told us that the earliest they could go back was 6 days later. I expressed, that all things considered, we should be a priority. They messed up and should make it right. Their answer was literally, "We're very busy. The best we can do is six days from now." They were completely unapologetic and dismissive. When I explained that I was going to file a complaint with Fidelity Home Warranty and blast them online, they were unfazed. So here you go:
As property managers, we deal with multiple repair calls everyday. When we have scheduling problems with our repair persons, they are usually quick to resolve the issue. Active Appliances is unprofessional, dishonest, unapologetic and dismissive to it's customers. Do not use them. -
I honestly am not sure why all the bad reviews. Our microwave stopped heating, they came out within 2 days, we're super courteous and clean, and fixed it within 40 minutes. Would use again.

**Review for Active Appliance and Fidelity Home Warranty**
**Rating: 0/5**
I recently had a highly disappointing experience with Active Appliance and Fidelity Home Warranty Company, both of which proved to be unreliable and dishonest. Our microwave's start button stopped working, and after paying the $85 service fee, Fidelity Home Warranty sent a technician from Active Appliance to address the issue.
Upon arrival, the technician noted that the microwave was 10 years old and explained that the problem was due to normal wear and tear—the hook on the latch wasn't connecting, preventing the start button from functioning. He assured me that this was a straightforward fix, requiring just a week to order and receive the necessary parts.
However, I was shocked to receive a call from Fidelity Home Warranty informing me that my claim had been denied. According to them, the technician reported that the issue was due to "excessive wear and tear." This was completely contrary to what he had told me in person, where he stated it was a normal issue for a microwave of this age and assured me it would be covered.
This blatant contradiction leads me to believe that Active Appliance and Fidelity Home Warranty are colluding to deceive their customers. They take your money under the pretense of providing a service but fail to follow through on their commitments. Their actions are nothing short of fraudulent.
I strongly advise against using Active Appliance or Fidelity Home Warranty. They will take your money and leave you without the repairs or services you paid for. Save yourself the frustration and seek out more reputable companies that stand by their promises and respect their customers. -
1 star (is one star too many). My experience with this company through my home warranty provider was extremely disappointing. After waiting several weeks for an initial appointment, the technician provided an incorrect diagnosis of the issue. Despite multiple attempts to follow up, I received no communication from their team. The lack of professionalism, extended wait times, and inaccurate assessment resulted in a frustrating and unsatisfactory service experience. I would not recommend working with this company.

Thank You Active Appliance. The repairman came to my condo so many times that I feel like we have become best friends. It was comforting to see my buddy each month. I'd say, "Oh, you grew out your hair." He'd say, "Oh, you lost weight." I'd say, "Is today the day I get to stop washing my dishes by hand?" He'd say "Oh, I need to order another part." I'd say, "See you next month. I should get you your own key." We both laughed. He gets me. These guys are incompetent when it comes to fixing appliances, but they sure can mend a broken heart.

If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with Active Appliance has been nothing short of a masterclass in poor customer service and unprofessional behavior.
I contacted them through my home warranty company for what should have been a simple repair. The technician misdiagnosed the issue and the warranty company refused to honor it. They quoted me $90 for the repair, which I agreed to.
After the initial visit, they disappeard for over a month. When they finally responsded, their message was essentially "we just can't fix it" – referring to what is literally a tiny leak in a water tube.
No explanation. No alternative solutions. No accountability for the month they kept me waiting. Just a simple "we won't fix it". This is after they had already diagnosed the problem (incorrectly) and quoted me a price!
The level of dishonesty and incompetence here is staggering. They wasted my time, provided incorrect information, and then couldn't even be bothered to follow through on their commitments. Their communication is nonexistent, their service is unreliable, and their excuses are pathetic.
Save yourself the headache and find another appliance repair company. This one seems to specialize in disappearing acts rather than actual repairs.
Pro tip: If you hear "we just can't" from Active Appliance, what they really mean is "we just don't want to do our job." -
It's 10:30 on a Saturday and I have a service call scheduled. I tried calling the office to see if I could find out where I am on the route so I can estimate when the technician will come. The phones go to their "Office Closed" message even though the message says they are open 9-1 on Saturday and their website says they are currently Open and the hours are 8-3 on Saturday. Their message also refers me to the website for "up to date status" of my service call. But when I click on the Service Status button, it says Coming Soon! If they weren't the company my home warranty uses, I would never call them. The technician I had for a previous service call was great, but dealing with the office is an ordeal!

This has to be one of the most unprofessional appliance service companies I’ve ever dealt with. Not only did they fail to resolve the issue, but their behavior was downright rude, and it was clear they lacked the expertise needed for the job. Judging by other reviews, my experience isn’t unique, and I genuinely hope AHS reconsiders their partnership with this company because they couldn’t have picked a worse provider.
To summarize: the technician showed up late without even bothering to call ahead. When the technician arrived, he spent exactly 10 minutes running the cycle, only to claim that the machine has common issue caused by it's age.
To make matters worse, they later submitted a completely false report to the warranty company, blaming the issue on excessive wear and tear. That’s absurd, especially considering the machine is just 5 years old. The audacity of this company is honestly mind-blowing.
Long story short: avoid this company at all costs. If your warranty company assigns them, insist on a different provider. Save yourself the headache. -
These guys have teamed up with AHS in a scam to deny repair works calling it as misuse of appliances or to steal from sincere customers through bloated repair cost . AHS dispatched (Dispatch: #441374208) Active Appliances Inc. to check on my Whirlpool washer for louder noise during the spin cycle. The tech shows up after 4 days from placing a service request. The guy did not turn on the washer...opened the lid, touched the drum and said it needs a transmission unit replacement and he will submit his report to AHS. Nothing was written down about his diagnosis and left me with a blank yellow page stating the unit makes loud noise. He did not even turn on the unit to hear the noise. The guy spend couple of minutes to fill the form and left. He submits a report full of lies to AHS stating the washer is overloaded and issue is due to misuse and AHS says I need to pay for the full repair work that comes up to $500 !!!. Where are the sincere repairmen in this world? AHS just going to lose a long-term customer for using a scam repair company to write a report so AHS can deny the service but pocket the money.

Filed a claim with AHS due to the control panel on my oven being loose on one side. The oven worked just fine. A repairman came out late 2pm when I was given an 8am-12pm window. By the end of the visit, the oven no longer worked, I was told I needed a new control panel and it wouldn’t be covered. Called AHS and apparently the repairman diagnosed that there was physical damage due to external force. This was not communicated to me and is not accurate other than perhaps damage done by the repair person. They are not taking any responsibility for it. I’m flabbergasted.

I must publicly disclose the exceedingly disappointing experience I recently had with Active Appliance. The staff's conduct was unprofessional, condescending, and rude from the moment I opened the door for him.
The technician who visited my residence insisted that I initial a vacant document, assuring me that he would complete it at a later time. This caused me to feel uneasy, and when I suggested that he instead document any visible damage around the appliance, his demeanor changed. In the absence of any further discussion, he proceeded to collect his possessions and depart without identifying any damages.
This encounter profoundly frustrated me and called into question the standards of service at Active Appliance. I anticipated a high level of professionalism, particularly when it came to repairs to my property. Instead, they treated me disrespectfully and dismissed me. Based on this experience, I would not endorse their services. -
Poor customer service company and incompetent. I had a washer that was leaking but they couldn’t find the source. They gladly took my $100 fee and didn’t provide any remedy. When I called them back because it was obviously going to leak again and it did they said that since it was located in a tight space in order for them to come again they needed me to pull out my dryer and send a pic. If I didn’t provide a pic they wouldn’t come out. Needless to say, their incompetence turned me off to have them come out again. I will never use this company for repairs again. Absolutely horrible.

Horrible service. They use unlicensed, unprofessional technicians, especially if you get Yan, he doesn't know anything. Rude, disrespectful. They are also discriminating against handicapped and elderly. Will charge you service call and provide nothing.

Unfortunately, this company seems to have a stranglehold on home warranty companies, who continue using them for repairs covered under a warranty (I'm looking at you, American Home Shield). The company sent someone out who was very pleasant but who simply didn't repair our dryer. You then have to go back through the home warranty company, because calling Active Appliance just gets you a "but we already closed out the ticket." REALLY? Open the blinking ticket back up, or open a new one.
We then waited ANOTHER week to get a repair person back, and they haven't shown up yet.
I literally don't understand how these con artists are still in business. -
Unprofessional service. Took them over 2 weeks to get me on schedule to fix my refrigerator and the day of the appointment they cancelled because their engineer was “sick”. I would recommend a different appliance repair service as this company is incompetent
-
Stay away from them. I wish I could rate them 0 star. The technician came over to check the gasket of my wall oven door and the stove. He was taking pictures the gasket including the stuff I had in the oven at that time. Then he sends the diagnose to AHS like (the gasket was damage due to the owner's physical force) the oven is 21 years old and we use it at least 2 times a week I consider that as worn-out over the years. The same thing with the cooktop stove they report to AHS that we abuse it that's the reason one of the on/off button doesn't work. The company took our money and now I probably have to hire some other company to fix the problem ending up spending more money out of my pocket.

I am extremely disappointed with this company. The technician came out once, left without making sure the appliance was working properly, and when he returned, he blamed the issue on something that was impossible because I hadn’t even used the machine since his last visit since it was still not working- On top of that, I had to wait nearly a month just to get this second appointment, which didn’t solve anything. The technician was unhelpful and dismissive, and in the end, they couldn’t figure out the problem and tried to cover it up with excuses. This was a complete waste of time, and I feel lied to and let down. I would never recommend this company to anyone

This company is trash and garbage!!! Even 1.6 stars on google review is too kind. The person they sent was incompetent and claimed they were not able to remove the dishwasher due to its location. Wrong! He just doesn't know what he's doing. I had another company come out few years ago and removed it completely with no issues. The heating element was not working and didn't dry the dishes well. Used AHS warranty who partners with this trash company. They simply closed out the case saying it was resolved. This place needs to be shut down NOW!
