Appliance Repair reviews in Van Nuys, California

By far the worst company I’ve ever experience service for. I would not have hired these guys myself, but my home warranty picks the company for me. This company lives up to their reviews! They hang up on you constantly (even after being on hold for 45 minutes to get ahold of someone) and they just love saying “sorry the line was disconnected”. The customer service techs are not the only ones that do this, the managers are worse! ESPECIALLY YOU ROD! I told you I’d name you and you are by far the most unprofessional manager I’ve ever encountered. If you get the guy Rod, expect to be lied to and hung up on almost every time you call! And whoever his supervisor is, is worse! She wouldn’t even give me her name and hung up on me!
Unprofessional, unsatisfactory work, did not fix my appliance after a video call, and 2 in house visits! Did not call me when the parts arrived. Lied to me and said they had no ETA on the parts. Lied to me about the schedule and said they couldn’t get me in for 3 weeks to repair my oven. Came to replace the part and ensured me it would resolve the issue. My oven still does not function properly. I will never use this company again. -
I'll be honest - I was terrified when my Home Warranty company assigned this business for our LG Refrigerator repair because of what I've read. My experience was far above my lowered expectations. They arrived within two days and on time to diagnose the problem. Ordered the necessary part fairly quickly, texted when it had arrived to schedule, and then showed up on time for the installation. The only issue I had was the timing of everything - part took 5-7 days to arrive, and once it arrived it was another 9 days for installation, so we were without a fridge for quite a bit of time, but we made do with our old fridge in the garage. The original diagnosis tech was a little brash but was very quick and efficient - the install tech was informative and seemed very thorough. Bottom line - our LG fridge, which apparent are problems galore, is now cooling again, and this company did what I expected.

I wish I could give 0 stars. It has now been 6 weeks without a working refrigerator as this company was assigned to us by my home warranty company. Today, would have been the 3rd time a tech shows up to our house, and they do not show up. I sat on hold about 45 minutes to be told that the appointment was “cancelled” by my home warranty company... so I called the warranty company and lo and behold, the appointment is still active!
I have been hung up on numerous times by the girl who answers their phones, I have been cancelled on twice, and have lost $100’s in wasted groceries.
If my warranty company didn’t refuse to change our contractor I would never have to deal with this horrible excuse for a company ever again. At least the tech who come’s out is a nice guy. -
DO NOT USE THEM!!! Lowe's referred me to them bc we had a protection plan for our washer. The service technician didn't arrive between the hours he was suppose to. Finally someone came 3 hours after the allotted time. They never contacted me about the status of the repair or return my calls. Finally after a week, I was able to finally reach them and they stated they didn't order the part to fix the washer bc it was not under warranty. Very inefficient and not responsive.

My home warranty company contracted with them to repair a leaky dishwasher. They didn't reach out for several days, then when I contact them they insisted on up-front copayment (ONLY by giving her my card over the phone...), but they couldn't schedule the repair for a couple weeks!
Then they called a few days before the scheduled repair to cancel and push things out 2 more weeks, which is totally absurd. I asked them to cancel the repair and said I'd use someone else. The extremely rude customer service person just said they'd refund my card and hung up.
Horrible company, horrible customer service. Do not ever use them. I'll be watching my credit card to see if they actually refund me and will dispute the charge if not. I'm also filing a formal complaint with my home warranty for their horrible performance and terrible customer service. -
This company is an absolute nightmare when it comes to repairs. My warranty company, AHS, assigned them to fix my ice maker. The technician came, took it apart, and told me to throw it away because it was completely broken. He explicitly said to keep only the wires and screws. Following his instructions, I did just that. Later, AHS reassigned a new contractor to rediagnose the problem, but by then I didn't have the ice maker since I WAS TOLD to throw it away.
When I called the company to make sure their technician would mention in his report that he told me to discard the ice maker, I was met with the rudest customer service rep, Anthony. The moment he heard what happened and realized the technician made me throw away the ice maker, he refused to listen further, insisted the case was closed, and essentially hung up on me. I only wanted the report to reflect what their technician said, but they refused to take responsibility and wouldn't let me speak to a supervisor. Apparently, the case is closed. You can amend the Constitution, but you can't amend their idiotic report.
If you call and Anthony answers, hang up immediately. He is rude, unprofessional, and utterly unhelpful even when it comes to scheduling. DO NOT USE this business. They are the absolute worst I've ever dealt with. -
I would give them zero stars if I could, but you’re not giving me the option. Unprofessional, nobody answers the phone. AI will only text. They probably only have one person working in the entire company. Do not waste your time or money. American home Shield needs to stop working with them immediately.

Useless and not even sorry about it !
I booked an evaluation for my Viking after being a customer numerous times . The first appointment time was canceled because of a prior commitment on the tech’s part and left a vm thirty minutes before the visit was to expire . In other words kept me waiting all morning !The reschedule was for today 8-12 again and changed my day around to be here for the tech ! Again- 11:30 am and the tech had an emergency and couldn’t come ! No apology just we’ll reschedule you again !! Really ?? No respect is what I call it and even offering a free consult might have redeemed them but they are stupid enough to not even offer that and get a big job … but instead lost a customer for life ! Goodbye Active Appliances - your service sucks ! -
I don't think their repairman knows what he is doing! Our refrigerator stopped working and our warranty company (AHS) sent this compay out to repair it. The repairman said it was the compressor, so we had to wait a week for the new compressor. He installed it and said to wait 24 hours to put food in it. We waited almost 60 hours! The refrigerator never got cold. We called them to come out and fix it. At first they weren't going to come out for almost 2 weeks, that was unacceptable! The warranty company called them and made them come out sooner. Active called us and suddenly there was a cancelation and they came out in 2 days. Repairman said there was a leak in the copper line and all the freon leaked out. So he said he repaired the leak and put freon in. We waited 3 days before going grocery shopping, it seemed to be working although didn't feel as cold! I checked it this morning and it stopped working again! I don't think they know what they are doing and it so so frustrating!! I agree with most of these comments, find a different repair company!! I have lost so much money in wasted food!!! We will have to call them again!! They better come out asap!!!

Stay away! I have a GE washer that is less than 2 years old. Active Appliances has been to my house 7 times within 2 months and my washer is still not fixed. Complete incompetence and lack of customer care. I have requested to speak with a manager but no one has ever called me back. You can't get past the schedulers to speak with someone that can possible help. I think this is by design.

Made a service request on November 18th through my home warranty. They didn't schedule repair till 10 days later. Suddenly canceled on the day of the appointment because "technician called in sick". Rescheduled for November 30th. Armenian technician arrived at my residence and was extremely rude. Refused to fix the dryer and instead said we needed to clean the lint filter before every load. Dryer is still broken and does not tumble. The soonest they can come back is December 14th. Do not use this company.

They are scamming many innocent people with services NOT performed. I disputed this in 2023 and now (in 2025) they’ve sent it to collections in an attempt to make $135 which they claim I owe them!! Collections has found a way to add it to my credit report in an attempt to lower my rating that has always been over 800. They need to be stopped.

Active Appliance was contracted by our home warranty AHS. The tech that showed up said our fridge needed a condenser or compressor. He said he will submit a claim for new parts to American Home Shield (AHS). A few days later, AHS called stating our claim was denied due to a missing part. Our refrigerator is 5 years old and he was they only person to inspect our fridge for diagnosis. AHS said the service order from Active Appliance stated our refrigerator is not working due to a missing part; hence the denial of our claim for repair. I'm not sure what part magically disappears for a working fridge to stop. My guess, this is a false diagnosis -- nothing to do with a missing part. I called Active Appliance to request a copy of our service order and the said it's against their contract with AHS. When asking AHS for a copy, they said the will mail it. I'm waiting for a copy. Either way, looks like this company is fishing for quick service call money with possibly no desire to repair appliances. I'm out $100 for the service call with no professional, documentation explanaining the service call.

Got assigned to this company by my home warranty, my dryer just needed a simple and common repair. They said they were waiting for parts, 4 days later I called, after a very long hold they schedule me for 3 weeks later, tried to get an earlier appointment but they did not have anything. Called home warranty to try to change contractor but this company told them
Parts take long to get. Called several other contractors, all of them had their parts in their truck since it is a common part, I hired one of them that came next day and fixed it in 20 minutes -
I was required to use this company as they have a contract with my home warranty. I would not have used them if i had a choice just based on the reviews. The reviews are accurate! They came to the property and did not have the part needed for the repair. Then they did not respond for over two weeks. First American Home warranty was not much better but at lease they responded after 2 weeks. Customer service was just horrible, the representative was dismissive, didn't care that it was over two weeks before i got a hold of them and I had to continue calling them, they never responded. It was like 'What's the problem, you got us on the phone now'. smh I'm sure that they are busy and don't feel the need to take care of their customers. First American told me that i had to use them as they were the designated company for my area. I contacted another company and they came out, completed the job, next day (Reliable Appliance Service). Check their ratings. I'll also be cancelling my service with First American home warranty.

The worst. Had to use them because of our home insurance sent us their way. Repair came twice to fix leaky fridge (returned with ordered part) then said we needed to call a plumber bc there was no water coming into the fridge and left. HE NEVER TURNED THE WATER BACK ON THAT WAS WHY. Save yourself and go with someone else.

We'll see how this goes with our home warranty repair claim with our cooktop. So far the part has been ordered, waited a couple of weeks for that, set the appointment to install these parts, two more weeks pass. On the day of the appointment, received an automated text at 12:02 pm saying the technician was on the way, the appointment window was between 1-5. Then at 12:55 I received a call from someone saying the appointment will need to be cancelled because he didn't have the correct parts.
I called First American Home Warranty to inform them of what happened just to keep them in the loop. No return call from anyone to reschedule this repair. I just called Active App today, a week later, and the lady said I missed the appointment last week. WHAT!?!? She said there was no record of a technician calling me to cancel. She was very sweet and handled the call very professionally as she could hear how upset I was.
Fine...let's reschedule for another day.....Like I said...we'll see how this goes!! So far it's been a lot of waiting and no results.
New appointment is scheduled for May 19....update will follow. -
I would like to share my recent experience with Active Appliances Inc., which has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. On August 22, 2023, a technician from Active Appliances Inc. (contracted by our Home warranty company) visited our residence to address an issue with our refrigerator, which was not cooling properly.
Before even examining the refrigerator, the technician asked me to sign a waiver, absolving Active Appliances Inc. of any responsibility for, amongst other things, food spoilage during the repair process. This seemed like they were more concerned about protecting themselves than providing quality service.
The technician then proceeded to diagnose the problem without even opening the back of the refrigerator - or the freezer's back panel. He claimed that the issue was a faulty coil and fuse, solely based on pointing a thermometer at the refrigerator/freezer and citing his prior experience. I questioned his diagnosis, but he insisted that these were the problem areas.
He informed me that the necessary replacement parts might take up to ten days to arrive, and I should expect a follow-up appointment once they were available. Two weeks later, I received notification that the parts had arrived, and a new appointment was scheduled for the next day between 12:00 and 5:00 PM.
The technician arrived at 3:30 PM, and we promptly emptied the freezer to facilitate the repairs. However, to our dismay, upon inspecting the back of the freezer, he declared that the coils and fuse were functioning correctly and suggested that the issue might actually be with the "fan." This sudden change in diagnosis left us in a frustrating predicament.
We then had to face yet another week or more of waiting for the correct repairs to be conducted. This extended delay not only inconvenienced us but also exposed us to further food spoilage, which has been particularly concerning, especially during the summer months.
As a customer who relies on a fully functional refrigerator, I am extremely upset and inconvenienced by this situation. The initial misdiagnosis without a thorough examination of the freezer back panel has resulted in significant delays and frustrations for us. Finally, after 23 days of waiting, on September 14, 2023, the technician showed up close to 4:00 PM, and finished the repairs which took him about 30 minutes. While I understand that we signed a waiver regarding food spoilage, it is disheartening that Active Appliances Inc.'s representative was so careless with their diagnosis and repair process.
Considering the level of frustration and inconvenience that Active Appliances Inc. has caused us, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this company to anyone. Customers deserve transparency, professionalism, and accurate diagnosis and repairs when they seek service, and unfortunately, Active Appliances Inc. has fallen short on all fronts in this instance. -
Horrible company. My home warranty company sent them, otherwise would never have used them given all the bad reviews! They are terrible. The ice maker on my refrigerator door isn't dispensing ice. They came out and the technician said there was a ripped wire in the door. I asked how that could have happened, and he told me poor construction. However, he apparently told my home warranty company that it ripped due to the door being overloaded and not normal wear and tear! And now the home warranty company won't cover it! The door has 2 tiny shelves on it and barely anything in them. There is no possible way it was overloaded. And why did he tell me and the home warranty company something different?? Probably because they hope I'll just pay them directly to fix it and they'll get more from me than they would from the home warranty company who they have contracted rates with. No wonder 750 1 and 1/2 star reviews here and about 1700 1 and 1/2 star reviews on Yelp!

Worst company ever. Ice maker stopped working. They said I should unplug the fridge the day before which I did but the ice didn’t melt. They left without fixing it and gave me another appointment for 10 days later. They are unprofessional and irresponsible. No wonder they have only one star. I don’t know how they’re still running the business

Wish I could give a 0. When AHS supervisor called me today, she was under the impression that this was a FREEZER not a REFRIGERATOR. The freezer part is not even the issue. The issue is the fridge does not cool. I waited over 3 weeks for them to even come out to diagnose the issue, now I am waiting yet again for them to order the part. I had no refrigerator throughout the holidays. Additionally the technician dented my fridge and lies that the dents were there already.
