Constraction reviews in Des Moines, Iowa

Servpro showed a real lack of transparency in communicating total expenditures. Lack of responsiveness to texts or emails. Lack of timeliness on all fronts. Didn't even listen to basic design preferences. The best part about working with Servpro is that the ordeal is finally over.

The Servpro team did an amazing job on my mom’s basement after water damage from recent storms. They faced a few challenges due to it being an older home but they came back with solutions to get the job done! Great work by all involved!

Loved working with ServPro when our dog got sick. Very professional. Only problem was it took about 30 minutes to wait for more stain remover when they ran out. Otherwise very professional.

These guys we amazing!! They showed up ASAP when we had a flood in our home. They worked so hard to stop water damage to our walls, ceilings, floors and floorings…What was not salvageable they hauled away for us.
They were all knowledgeable and kept us informed on everything they were doing. At a time when we had no idea what in the world we would do next they took over and handled everything that the flood had damaged and got our home ready for the construction repairs. We seriously couldn’t have been in better hands than our ServPro team!!
Thank you to the team who came to our rescue….

We had a minor issue with water in our home and the Servpro team in Des Moines responded to the matter very quickly. Upon arrival, they used a camera to identify the problem areas and after diagnosing, they proceeded to the next step. They dispatched another team who came in with equipment to rectify the issue. After a couple of days, they came back to check on the issue and the levels were better than the threshold needed. We thank the Servpro team in Des Moines for their expedient response, professionalism, care and knowledge!

Called at 10:30pm to clean up after a burst pipe. They were there in 30 min. They saved my carpet. Hope I never have to call them again 🤞

Second update from below - I am bumping up my review by one star, and all the credit goes to one guy - Stephen (goes by Rye), who works out of a Missouri office. (I live in Iowa.) If I could give Rye a 10-star review, I would. Several months ago, a small crew that, I assume, Servpro subcontracted with, spent almost a week doing the bulk of the restoration work we needed. The workers themselves were very pleasant and hard-working. However, the communication between them and our Servpro rep was lousy. When the crew arrived on the first day, they seemed unsure what work needed to be done. Maybe we were naive, but we assumed they would know how many walls would need to be repainted, which room needed the flooring replaced, etc. After a few days of work, the crew told us they hit a stopping point and needed to purchase new baseboard for our bathroom because our original baseboard was too damaged to re-use. Our understanding was that Servpro would need to purchase that new baseboard and, until that happened, this crew would be working at a different job site. I was under the impression they would return after a few days to finish the job. However, that was the last we heard or saw that crew. They laid new flooring in our bathroom, which was great, but they left our toilet disconnected (storing it in our tub), and they had not caulked around the base of our tub. After a few weeks of hearing nothing, I replaced the toilet and patched the area around our tub just to make our bathroom functional, thinking that the crew would return at any time. I assume this crew did not communicate the status back to Servpro, as several weeks--no, months--later, our Servpro rep reached out to us and offered to send someone to our house to evaluate what work still needed to be completed. (I would have thought Servpro would aware of what work had not been completed.) Anyway, I received a call out of the blue from Rye, and within a couple of days, he was at our house. He walked into this messy situation, was completely professional from the very beginning, and remained professional until the day he left. I even made a strong effort to tip him, and he repeatedly and politely refused. From our insurance company to the Servpro rep and all of the 'middlemen' (ahem-ALACRITY) in between, Rye was hands down the easiest person to work with. In the perfect amount of detail, he explained what work he thought needed to be done, making it very easy to agree on a plan. He was a master at explaining our options whenever we reached a decision point. He was a meticulous yet efficient worker, and the quality of his work was outstanding. I wish I could extend this praise all of the Servpro reps, but our experience with them has not been as great, which is why I'm keeping this review at four stars. (To be fair, I understand our Servpro rep may be experiencing an overwhelmingly high volume of work.) Rye, however, truly is our hero.
Update from below -- I have made three attempts in the last week to schedule follow-up to work described below, and I have yet to receive even a call-back. I appreciate that it might be difficult/impossible to perform the work itself anytime soon, but based on the great work with the initial demolition, I'm surprised it has taken this much effort just to schedule the restoration, thus the drop in my rating from five stars to three.

Hired Servpro to contain water damage from my bathroom. Fast, responsive, courteous, and professional. Even spoke directly with my plumber and insurance company, saving me significant hassle. -
We recently had a GREAT experience with ServPro! We had never used their company before but a local plumber recommended them to us to help diagnose where a water leak was coming from. We got same day service and our tech was very knowledgeable and went over and above in helping us find our leak. I would highly recommend ServPro to others!

Servpro was great at helping my mother! We were going to be charged 3 times more than another company and when I called Servpro they helped right away! They were at my mother's house in less than an hour and did a fantastic job! Would highly recommend and hire again if ever needed!

I had a fantastic experience with Servpro and was recommend to Servpro by two friends who had also used them. They put me at ease during an extremely stressful situation. I had a sewage backup that occurred in my condo bathroom and HVAC drain. I called Servpro at about 7pm (Monday) and the project manager immediately called me back at 830pm that same evening and was willing to travel to me to assess the damages that same night. I scheduled the assessment the next morning and the project manager was able to accommodate my schedule. The project manager, Brad, was very knowledgeable and very friendly. He explained his assessment and explained why. Since there was no insurance claim filed on this incident, I was required to put a 50% down payment. As soon as I made payment, his team was very quick to start with the sewage remediation.
By Thursday the team was setting up the containment area (with zippers for me to pass through when needed) and started running the dehumidifiers and air filters. On Friday they started work and by the following Monday they finished the remediation. During the weekend someone even came by to check the moisture levels on the machines. The remediation team, Landon and Jesse, were fantastic with vacuuming everything during and after the cutting of drywall to minimize the spread of dust (an extra precaution since the contamination area was already sectioned off with the filter fans running to catch the dust). They made sure all the trash was properly bagged and that all work was documented through photos. They answered all my questions, tested areas that I had concerns about, and explained the process of spraying and steam cleaning. They were extremely professional and friendly and really helped calm me down during this high stress situation. I would not hesitate to use Servpro again! They are awesome! -
Sean-Paul and team were phenomenal! They showed up the same day they were contacted by our insurance company to assess the water damage caused by a sever Storm/Tornado that came through our neighborhood, lined up subsequent parties to check for asbestos, mold, etc. and assisted in getting the right people out to complete the abatement. They provided great communication throughout the process and even came back to ensure all was addressed properly. I would highly recommend Sean-Paul and ServePro for any water damage issues you may incur.

In August 2024, I had a fire at my place of business that I rent. My landlord‘s insurance company hired Servpro to clean it up and rebuild the space. The damage was on the inside and it was mainly concentrated towards the back the front of the space just needed cleaned whereas the back needed new drywall and Things like that. Normal things that would need replaced due to a fire. They came in and got everything cleaned and the walls and things and encapsulated fairly quickly. But it is now March 2025 and we still aren’t back into our space yet Not only did we lose much of our possessions due to the fire, but we have lost a great amount of income waiting for these people to finish our space. It sat for almost 3 months, completely empty, and no contractors Came to do anything we finally started complaining and a couple people here and there started showing up, but there was no progress being made whatsoever. We made phone call after phone call and we’re very patient up until this last month. We started to get pretty angry and contacted other people in the company to try and get something going. Now things are moving along a little bit quicker, but it’s been nine months, I could’ve had a baby by now.. Something that should’ve took around 90 to 100 days has taken over nine months and still probably another month to a month and a half before it will be all set and done. It’s been a horrible experience. Our general contractor, obviously either didn’t care or had no idea how to do her job. Her name is Jenna. I definitely do not recommend having her as your general contractor for any of these types of projects. I think Servpro as a whole is a pretty good company and I do think that they had our best interest at heart, but when it came to Jenna and hiring contractors and actually making sure the work was getting done, she did not do any of those things. I have lost so much aside from what I’ve lost in the fire and these are things I can never get back.

We had a flood in our master bath which went into our master closet and master bedroom. Serve pro was notified and right out with fans, dehumidifier, & all there special equipment. They were so polite and did exactly what they needed to do. They even came on the weekend to check everything. Me and my husband were so very pleased with their level of professionalism. I would definitely hire them without worry if we should ever need them again. Thank you SERVE PRO!!!!

If I would have written this review as the team was here doing their job, I would have rated it much higher. Our sump pump backup system failed while we were without power, so our basement carpet was saturated with water. Brad came out to give us a quote and they got started with the cleanup. Everyone was nice and professional and we were happy with the work - until we received the final bill and it was TRIPLE the amount we were quoted. Drying out the carpet and walls took longer than expected, so we anticipated the bill would be a little higher, but not triple the amount! This was NEVER communicated to us. When I called to discuss the bill and my concerns, I was told that they saved us a lot of money by drying out the carpet and walls versus tearing it out, and therefore our repair wouldn't cost us as much. So since the repairs weren't going to cost as much, they decided to triple our bill?!? Very disappointed!

When the baseboards were removed there were several large holes left in the drywall. Additionally I spent an hour crawling around the basement floor removing the nails left in the wall when the baseboards were tore off. When they cut the carpet between the hallway and bedroom the cut was so jagged, when the carpet was stretched back in it left a large gap.

Zack and his crew were phenomenal! When I needed help with water in my basement, those guys had been out for 16 hours and they still came out to help. They were able to save my basement and helped with insurance, leaving me at ease. I would highly, highly recommend ServePro!

The room Serv pro restored from years of smoking looks amazing. They also cleaned my living room furniture and that looks brand new now. Great job, Chris came on time and got right to work. Very satisfied and would recommend Serv Pro

We had water issues at our house due to a city drain plugging a few weeks ago. We called SERVPRO in the middle of the night and within an hour the first tech Nelfa showed up around 3:30 AM! Over the next few days after the situation was assessed they went to work with all their BIG equipment to get the drying out process going! They stayed on top of it and kept us informed on the progress! If I called any of the team they responded quickly! They were there through the entire process until it was time for carpeting and their job was done! Our team worked LONG and HARD hours for us along with other job sites! Shout out to Nelfa who was the team leader and so kind almost became like our family! Chris who was there a lot and was very knowledgeable in his work and answered professionally ALL of our questions! We also had Jesse and Conner along with a couple gentlemen called in from Iowa City to help out! These people all worked Stinken Hard for us and we would recommend SERVPRO to anyone who needs help! Thank You to our team!

ServPro apparently has an exclusive agreement with my insurance company for mitigation and repairs. The work for mitigation of water damage was good, but they collected the deductible from me and also the insurance company. They provided an estimate for repair work that included added fees for "labor minimums." The communication from Jenna Hill was inconsistent and slow, requiring follow-up. Three months later, they still have not refunded the payments they over collected, so I am left waiting. Eventually, ServPro told the insurance company the work was below their minimums and refused the work. They lowballed the estimate presumably because they added "overhead and profit" surcharges that are not included if I cash out and choose my own contractor. That means the payout is not enough to hire another contractor. Their business practice seems unethical, and customer service is extremely poor. They still have not returned the payment they collected twice without telling the insurance company I already made a payment. I still have a large hole in my ceiling and searching for alternative contractors to handle each part of the repair. They were guaranteed profit by their captive agreement with the insurance company and still claimed the repair size was "not viable," after they had provided an estimate.

After coming to me and offering to help to repair/replace a cover and winterization last season, we could not get them to come and open the pool as promised and finish repairs on the cover in the spring. After finally having to open the pool ourselves in mid June, there was a leak that prevented us from using the pool. No one would return calls, come out as promised to “get us up and running.” Another pool company finally found the issue and made the simple repair after one short visit.
Unprofessional to not return calls/ messages after promising to be out, not opening the pool 1/3 of the way into the season. Now 4 days before August we are up and running no thanks to them. -
They came to close our pool as we normally do with this time around. They excluded pool-covering from the work order and charged us extra for it. I didn't read the work order closely. In addition, they included a bogus term "Full Pool and Equipment Inspection" into the work order. We did not get a single line of report about the result of their inspection, but we were charged for it anyway. Be extra careful dealing with this business.
