Overall very unsatisfied with my experience using Spartan and will not be using them again.

Cons:
- Kenneth is extremely rude; rushing to get the job done, then proceeds to leave me with his other technician. Upon inspection after their work was completed, my toilet began making a strange noise that was not there beforehand. When I call Kenneth to ask why this is happening, he proceeds to berate me over the phone telling me "it's not his problem" and if he was to come back up he'd charge me $205 for it. Absolutely unacceptable to yell at a customer for asking simple questions, not professional at all. Not to mention they left my toilet a mess and didn't even bother to put the tank lid back on.

- Costs are exorbitant - $89 service call fee, $300+ fee to replace supply valve and tank gaskets; over $400 for 40 minutes of actual work; the parts themselves cost ~$15

- For some reason it took nearly an hour for the technicians to go to the store and buy the parts

I worked with Duane on an emergency plumbing repair in my kitchen. He arrived quickly (thanks Spartan!), fixed everything thoroughly and explained exactly what he was doing. He was honest and experienced in his advice on future work for our plumbing in the kitchen. As a real estate agent, I see LOTS of professionals -- he stood out far and above the rest. Don't hesitate, ask for Duane. He was so good I called their office just to remember his name from work done in January. I'm asking all my clients to use Spartan as well. I'm sold!

What's the worst that could happen in DC during summer? the AC breaking down! I found Spartan on google with 4 stars reviews so I gave it a go. Everyone I talked to were polite, with an utmost professionalism. We described the problem (we saw ice buildup around the drainage coil) over the phone and were told to turn off the AC right away so that they could come out the next day in the morning. Joaquin and Matt arrived on time, they diagnosed the problem correctly and fixed it fast. They were knowledgeable about old houses like ours, nice and efficient! We are happy to have worked with Spartan and would recommend them to everyone!

On this very hot morning Joaquin and his new trainee David came to my home bright and early in response to my call regarding a non-responsive thermostat for my upstairs air conditioner. Joaquin fixed the problem immediately and together they ran a thorough check on that unit as well as the downstairs ac--and the water heater for good measure. I was not surprised since Joaquin has been taking care of my cooling and heating systems for years. He is the best of the best! But I was also impressed by David, the young man Joaquin is now training. David seems attentive, keen to learn, and capable. Like Joaquin, he is courteous and helpful. He seems to be a very good student, and he has a fine teacher. I look forward to seeing David as well as Joaquin in the seasons to come.

Needed a new hot water tank. Called for appointment and was greeted by a most cheerful lady. To my sweet surprise she told me someone could come by the next day and that I would receive a call to tell me when they would arrive. The next day a very pleasant and knowledgeable young man (Anil Das) arrived. He explained all my options and the next day arrived as promised. I have used Spartan many times before - both for large and small jobs: It is always the same: no hidden anything, all explained upfront, all jobs done professionally and with proper speed. I am so thankful the owners have weathered this horrid pandemic and they have not lowered their standards. God bless all of you at Spartan.

I do not recommend because they failed to show up for the service appointment and lacked the decency to make a simple phone call.

We needed urgent help due to our furnace leaking water all over our floor. I set up appointment with Spartan because they assured me they could service it same-day. I canceled my plans and waited all day for them. No one showed up. I called three times. Each time they promised a technician would call me back shortly. No one ever bothered to call or show up.

The delayed/missed appointment is forgivable. The discourtesy is not. How hard is it to make a 30 second phone call to tell us the truth and cancel the appointment? This business left my family in the lurch and wasted my time. I do not recommend.

I recently had my HVAC system serviced for the 2021 season. Spartan (Joaquin) was the serviceman and has serviced my system over the years. Joaquin is the most kind spirited, respectful and knowledgeable serviceman. I want to send kudos to Joaquin, Thank you for a job well done. Thank you to Spartan for employing the most professional employees whether they are the Service Reps and service men/technicians. Thank You for your great service!

This company's web site says "voted best in DC seven years in a row" and "BBB A+ rated". Buyer beware!

We have used them occasionally for many years. In the past, they would show up on time, do a good job, and charge a fair price. However, they have lately changed their billing practices, and now charge by the job, not by the hour, and the result is their prices have more than doubled. When we called to complain, they gave us a lecture on capitalism.

We are remodeling a small bathroom. Called them to cap off supply and drain lines, and install three simple shut off valves -- an easy job. Total cost of components from Home Depot was $28.91, and it took them 90 minutes to do it (total time in to out the door).

Their fees were:
Three angle stop valves -- $645
2" PVC cap -- $189
1/2" copper cap -- $278
(They waived the $89 dispatch fee)
TOTAL $1,112

I would expect to pay about $400 for this job.

After receiving this exorbitant invoice I contacted them using a different name, and asked them to quote this exact work. They said they would send a tech for $99 ($10 more than what is on their web page, what they charged us last month), and the tech would review the job and provide the quote.

So when you call for their service, the tech shows up and gives you a huge price, and then stands and waits for you to agree to it -- after you already owe them the $99 dispatch fee.

Gary and Raphael of Spartan replaced our water heater and did a fantastic job! Very professional and knowledgeable. The customer service folks answering the phones have also been great. Gary and Raphael even came back the following day, at no charge, to help fix a small issue that had cropped up. The follow-through to fix the lingering issue is what really sets this crew apart. They had already been paid in full for the water heater job and still came out and made sure everything was in perfect working order. I highly recommend Spartan for your plumbing and HVAC needs.

We are so glad that we called Spartan Heating and Plumbing. Our Hot Water Heater was leaking. I called several contractors, and was not pleased with the conversation on solving my concern and I was put on hold. I then called Spartan Heating and Plumbing and AC and they came out right away to fix my problem. The Technicians Gary and Bob that came out were First Class Technicians did a excellent job and we were provided with great, quality expertise Service. Gary and Bob was on time, very polite, experienced, very knowledgeable and they did a outstanding excellent job. I highly recommend Spartan Heating and Plumbing AC Services. Consider me a completely satisfied Spartan customer in every respect... After living in my 4 story townhouse for fourteen years, I needed to replace 1 of the air conditioning systems on the roof. The team that arrived came on time, And not only were they diligent, but they took the time to respect the cleanliness of my home as well. I am very impressed by the courtesy shown to me by everyone associated with Spartan.

Cannot recommend highly enough. My HVAC stopped working and they sent a team out immediately. They diagnosed the issue and had it sorted in under 20 minutes. Everyone was a pleasure to deal with, from the customer service rep to the techs, Matthew and Joaquin. They were friendly, courteous and wearing their masks (over the nose even!). Great experience.

Spartan's air conditioning team, Edgar and Juan, came on short notice to our home and rescued my wife and me from Friday's brutal heat. They diagnosed and repaired the problem within a short period of time. In addition, they were professional, reliable and I found them to be very trustworthy.

Spartan arrived within an hour of my call to check our AC compressor. Their technician, Joaquin, was very friendly and professional and encouraged me to stand by and watch as he inspected the system. He explained everything that he was doing and had us up and running again in five minutes. This is the second time we've used Spartan (once previously for heating system repairs) and both times their service has been incredibly fast and extremely affordable. We will stick with Spartan for all of our HVAC needs and highly recommend them to everyone.

Spartan Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning was referred to me by my neighbor. I checked them out on the Better Business Bureau website and discovered they had an A+ rating. I called and was fortunate that a technician was already in my close vicinity. Within the hour Joaquin and Matthew showed up.

They guys went straight to work, and talked me through every step. It was determined that I needed a new capacitor. Joaquin retrieved a new capacitor from the truck, it was installed and we were back in business. So the actual time from my placing the call, to the guys leaving was less than two hours.

I am very pleased with this service, as well as the technicians. The experience was quick and painless. I will recommend Spartan to my neighbors and friends.

Great service! I had Matthew come out for the first time today and he was wonderful. Very professional, so helpful, he showed us our system and how to take care of it, and he was very friendly and nice to talk to. I've used other HVAC servicers in the past but this has been by far my favorite in the area.

Matthew, the service technician, was polite, professional and efficient. He diagnosed the problem (condenser motor capacitor) within minutes, removed the offending item, replaced it and had the system going again, all within half an hour. He was great! I've used Spartan many times over the past 20 years and always been satisfied. Great people, great company!

Joaquin and Juwan were great!! We had been having AC unit issues for weeks and our prior service kept flaking on us. My husband found Spartan and they came out same day. The walked us through each of the potential issues and what we should be looking at when our unit is fully functioning. They didn't rush and we're extremely responsive. They are our new heating/cooling guys!! Cannot recommend highly enough

Joaquin and Edgar were outstanding! They arrived within 30 mins of the initial call to dispatch. They were courteous and polite and took great care to educate my family on exactly what was needed to keep us in tip top shape. Before they left they tested the system and didn't leave until we were completely satisfied. Absolutely amazing team and I totally recommend them to anyone!

I have been a Spartan customer for several years, now, and always found their plumbers to be well qualified and professional. For today's job (which was to repair a leak in our sink), David was no exception to this rule. I found him to be not only incredibly competent, but extremely polite and cheerful. He carefully explained all of the work he would be doing prior to performing it. He arrived exactly on time and cleaned everything up before leaving. And the area below the sink is now completely dry! I will be requesting David the next time I need plumbing assistance. Thank you, David, for your great work!!

My AC hadn't been working for two weeks, called Spartan on the recommendation of a neighbor - Matthew was here in less than 45 minutes! Professional, thorough in his troubleshooting, he explained everything - and was not in a condescending. Best service, I've had in a very long time! I highly recommend Spartan and kudos to being woman owned!
