We have used Richards fuel for the past 3 years. They have been the only company to service our furnace. With that being said, we had a service scheduled today. I was at home waiting with a 10 week old baby. No one ever came to either doors, but my wife received a phone call at work. we were told that someone came to the door and there was no answer and that because we had our last oil delivery from a different company they were not going to service our furnace. Upon calling back, I was told by a very rude and condescending woman name Bridget, the same thing, but that the tech went to the garage door and didn’t get an answer. I was told it was company policy that they can’t service when another company has delivered oil. Well no where on their website does it say anything along those lines. Needless to say, we will never do any service with Richards again, and will tell everyone I can of the horrible customer service they have.

I have always had a great experience with the folks at Richards. Always really nice people. When I accidentally ran my oil tank dry, they came very quickly and showed me how to bleed the line. Really appreciate their help!

New home owner in the area for less than two weeks, now we have a heating emergency and can't get service because we aren't an existing customer. While I understand this is "standard" it certainly doesn't help keep my children from freezing just after Christmas. New customers we will not become.

This company is extremely responsive, and their service is exemplary.
And now I would like to add that they did a superb job installing my new mini split system. They sent out a large crew and got a complicated job done in just two days. And they give me a very good price for the whole project. If you're looking to get mini splits installed, I highly recommend them!

If you are looking for an HVAC company that (1) is always there when you need them and (2) provides low cost annual service contracts that help you mitigate the high cost of repairs (of older systems like mine) than Richards Fuel and Heating is the best. They have been supporting me and my family for 20+ years and they have never let me down. Thanks for what you do Richards Fuel and Heating!

The quick response to our leaking old water tank and old furnace gave us peace of mind from having a disaster in our basement. They came out immediately and surveyed our situation, wrote up 2 separate proposals for us to review, and our Friday contract signing had our job completed on Tuesday.
The first truck dropped off the equipment at 8am, and the 3 men that performed the installation came with 2 trucks about 15 minutes later. They set up a pipe cutting shop inside the larger truck, and had easy access through the garage into the basement.
They were very friendly, and extremely thorough in their adaptation to our 3 zone arrangement, explaining where and why the new plumbing would be laid out. They picked up behind themselves, even removing some paint chips in the grass that fell off the old rusting tank in the yard as they took the old stuff away.
Our new furnace is quieter, and should save us money with better efficiency. There was a $1,000 rebate which they took right off the contract price so we didn't have to pay it and wait for a rebate check.
We can't say enough about them, as they are always responsive to our needs and our annual cleaning/check up. We have been loyal fuel customers since October of 1998, and recommend them highly.

We had Richard's install heat pumps for our home in August 2025. Dennis, Nicholl, Hunter, and John were great to work with -- I would definitely recommend!

We had a small leak in our furnace. I call up, speak to a super friendly woman, and then the literal owner shows up to fix a few hours later. The owner of a decent sized company out there making same day service calls…won’t find many like Richard’s anymore!

We’ve been using Richard’s Fuel since we moved up here from CT in 2019 and they’ve been absolutely wonderful. They service our furnace every year and even replaced our expansion tank the same day, when we realized it was no longer working. They did our oil tank replacement too. I simply do not have enough nice things to say about them, highly recommend.

I switched to Richard's a few years ago after another well known local oil company sold out to a corporation. Richard's has been great. We typically do pre-buy in the summer and automatic delivery, and I usually stop into the office in person once a year to get all the paperwork and payment done, and always welcomed with friendly service. We also purchase the maintenance plan to include a cleaning and ensure emergency service. The one time I had a minor boiler issue, they responded immediately. The company has now been sold by the retiring original owner, but purchased by a longtime employee, and there has been no change to the great service. There aren't too many businesses like this left (independent and locally owned with great customer service). They are an asset to our community.

Been with Richard’s since we bought our house in Williamsburg 15 years ago. I appreciate that they are always courteous and prompt with fuel delivery. When our trusty old Peerless boiler finally called it a day after years of good service we trusted Richard’s to steer us in the right direction for a new boiler as it’s such a big purchase, it was great to have such a good crew to handle it.

We’ve been amazed at the efficiency of the system ever since it was installed and now that heating season is creeping in, we’re even more amazed at the Buderus system’s performance.

Awesome company and owner!!! This guy came out on Christmas day for us one year as an emergency call and what I thought would be an astronomical fee was beyond reasonable. Before that, they put in our new furnace and very professional, friendly and I would not hesitate to hire him again and will always refer him if asked!!! Thank you Patterson Fuel!!!
