We worked closely with Eric in design and then with Tom for the completion of our project. They were able to replicate our aesthetic and offered flexibility for our budget. Frequent e-mail contact while the project was ongoing was fabulous and offered us the opportunity to follow the team's progress. We are happy with our final product and look forward to many summer nights in our new garden oasis!

Had a very bad experience working with Biota Landscapes. They did not deliver on what they promised and the project renderings were very much a bait and switch. In trying to work through a resolution and remediate the issues directly with the owner, he offered up an equitable solution but then reneged on it. I've since worked with two other landscape companies and found that they offered much higher quality service for a fraction of the price.

We have a small south Minneapolis backyard and three Great Danes. I have been trying to figure out how to keep my dogs happy, less dirt and grime in my house and be realistic with what my yard can do. Jim and his company were so helpful and patient with this whole process. They went above and beyond to research what would be safest for my dogs. They were also very complete with explaining the process, what I can expect from my yard, and future considerations and upkeep.
We have done a lot of work on our house and have run into issues with incomplete projects, poor communication or people who just never return calls etc. This company was very prompt, professional and had great communication. Their level of detail and follow up was very impressive and reassuring that the job would be done well. And it was. We are thrilled with our backyard. I look forward to ongoing projects with this company and highly recommend their work.

The Biota team is very easy and fun to work with. Communication is excellent. We were involved in the planning and kept informed about each phase as it unfolded. We have a beautiful new driveway and sidewalk that looks amazing!

We used Biota to redo our landscaping, hoping to have it blend with the style of our house. They developed a great plan and collaborated with us to achieve that goal. The crew that implemented it was outstanding. They communicated well and exceeded our expectations.

There’s lots of excitement when the demo crew shows up, shakes the house and scrapes the front yard. Then the Biota team rolls up with a truck load of tools, good music and nice people!

They are talented and persnickety enough so that the landscaping is built to last and looks amazing but doesn’t take forever. And it came in on budget… even after a few twists and turns.

It’s a lot to ask for people to work in such hot and dusty conditions doing seriously hard work. But the crew was happy to be there and pleasant the whole time. We miss them now that they are gone!!!!

Oh and Jim is a maestro.

We worked with a number of contractors and subcontractors while renovating our 1920s house in Minneapolis (with an oddly shaped lot and drainage issues). Biota installed essentially three separate stone patios, new fencing/privacy screening, and awesome plantings throughout. Biota was by far the easiest contractor to work with, the most professional, and delivered the best final product. Couldn't recommend them more highly!

My Biota experience started with a pretty awesome and thorough consultation. Jim came over and we talked about "what I was really looking for." And he listened. Then we went in the rain to measure, talk some more and plan.
Within a few weeks, the crew was here. Amazingly friendly and respectful guys working on my patio. They told me step by step what was going on and what the plan was. Throughout the three day project, the team continued to ask for input, opinions, thoughts. I got an email from the foreman at the end of each work day. They cleaned up the mess every day, I barely knew they were digging dirt, hauling rock, crushing concrete, and creating a whole new environment.
Truly, I would come home at the end of the day and the work would be tidy, tools put away, and no sign of a mess.
The day they finished the patio, I come home to a beautiful new space and a gift and a card, "hope you enjoy your new space!" for me after they have done all the hard work.
And on top of all of that, they went above and beyond and helped me get rid of random concrete pieces in my yard- hauled them away for me. Super helpful and nice guys!
I would call them again in a heartbeat. Top notch aesthetic, incredible work ethic but more importantly a joy to work with.

Biota helped design and then produced an excellent small front-facing patio from where we can sit with a beverage and enjoy summer evenings. There were no problems from start to finish: cleanup was precise and fast and the end result including a small garden barrier was perfect. In addition, Biota went the extra mile to help us adjust and level a connection between an old brick walk and a new sidewalk installed by another company at the back of the house. Couldn't be mote satisfied!

Biota is, without doubt, the BEST landscaping service I have ever used. From design to planning to execution, their staff was competent, creative and wonderful to work with. They have always answered my questions promptly and do the work they say they're doing...no shortcuts. I recommend Biota to everyone who is looking for yard beauty, from conception to completion.

We’ve done our fair share of major and minor home improvement and renovation projects, so we’ve had a variety of experiences, both good and bad with contractors. The best experience we’ve had, though, came from Biota. They were exceptional.

It wasn’t a huge job, just replacement of a retaining wall, but Eric our landscape architect, set a really reasonable and reliable expectation about when the job would be done, and his crew was there exactly when he said they’d be. Joe, the project manager, was fantastic too. He gave us timely updates every day, and involved us in the important decisions, like what to do about an old railing that was going to interfere with the block laying.

The job was finished in three and a half days, sooner than we expected. Biota gave us a taste of what they could do with plantings arrangement too—hearty annuals in a previously weed-choked planter as a bonus!

I hired Biota to install a front yard patio, a retaining wall in the alley and to address some water drainage issues in my yard. I cannot say enough about the skills, knowledge and creative solutions that they employed. They generated a plan, gave me multiple choices regarding stone and were very responsible in reviewing costs as the project progressed. The staff is very friendly and professional! Even the neighbors commented on how hard the crew worked and how clean they left the site daily! I highly recommend this company!

We have used several different landscape companies over 40 years of homeownership and they are above all others. The team is respectful, knowledgable and the communication is excellent. Each day an email would be sent letting me what was done that day and what will be accomplished the next.
The design, build and selection of plants hav been beautiful.

We loved working with all of the people at Biota! They were exceptionally responsive, listened to our wishes and managed to coalesce it into a marvelous plan. Our new landscaping has changed the way we enjoy our yard. We have our own vacation spot right outside our doors. The water feature makes all the difference to our enjoyment, it also has the additional function of moving water away from the house since it captures the water from the gutters and the sump pump.
We cannot say enough positives about the people... each one was marvelous, professional and personable. They worked SO hard and paid attention to the detail.
We highly recommend Biota from start to finish!

Wow. These guys are so awesome. We first met Eric a couple summers ago when we were just beginning to dream about our landscaping project. He was so organized, knowledgeable, and thoughtful, not to mention calm, cool, and collected. We weren't able to get our project going as quickly as we had hoped (some other pressing exterior maintenance projects needed to be addressed first), but Eric patiently waited until the next spring for us to reach out and let Biota know we were ready for them! Eric was able to draw up some really cool CAD drawings that helped us envision what our new outdoor spaces could look like. When the labor crew showed up on day 1, we were blown away by their professionalism, energy, timeliness, and daily clean-up. Tom runs a tight ship! Every afternoon at 4:45 pm we would receive a detailed email from Tom summarizing the day's work. How refreshing! Overall, we could not be happier with the way our project turned out, and with the fluidity with which the Biota machine operates. We look forward to maintaining our relationship with Biota as we add more plants and improvements to our exterior in the coming years. Thanks guys!

We live in the Summit-University neighborhood of St. Paul, and in summer 2018 we had a weed patch masquerading as a lawn, dying hedges (because the previous owner planted sun-loving shrubs in our shady yard), a wobbly brick patio, and a falling-down fence. We hired biota to re-do the whole space—to add a patio in front to facilitate hanging out with our awesome neighbors, to add an entertaining area in the back, and to re-plant the whole yard with low-maintenance species that would thrive despite the shade. Although we clearly knew how we wanted to *use* the space, we didn’t have very clear ideas for style or design. I believe we (rather unhelpfully) said, “Modern, but not too modern.” This didn’t deter Eric! He had us discuss some pictures of biota’s previous work to get a sense of what we liked, and then he went to work. We were thrilled with his initial designs and pleased with how he integrated the few suggestions we had for modifications. Eric worked with us to design a beautiful and functional space that stayed within our budget. When the time came for the build, the crew was amazing! They worked efficiently, and (our favorite part) the foreperson (Joe) sent daily emails updating us on what they accomplished that day and what was planned for the next day. Throughout the process, the communication with everyone at biota was phenomenal. The build crew worked efficiently, and our yard was done before we knew it! At the very end, Eric walked through the space with us to make sure we were happy with everything (we were!) and to go over how to maintain it all. If we ever need landscaping done in the future, we will 100% work with biota again.

Biota Landscapes recently transformed our front/back yard from plain lawn & hardscape to an amazing sustainable garden that highlights MN native plants/shrubs/trees. Every member of their team, from the landscape architect to the implementation leads, team members and subs were amazing. They were (are!) competent, efficient, creative and extremely conscientious about their impact on my neighbors/our family during the installation process. We think their work is top notch & will continue to use their skills to maintain our yard on a year-round basis. They are true subject matter experts in the field of horticulture and landscape design!

We used Biota for our Backyard patio and retaining wall project. Elizabeth helped us design a perfect use of our space including a spot for a new sauna and Tom and crew came out and executed. We received daily updates as to how the project was going and what would happen next, the crew cleaned up every night 😳 and were so respectful, and to top it off the project is GORGEOUS! We couldn’t have dreamed of better service. Even Jim the owner was involved making sure the project was what we we had hoped. Highly recommend!!

We had a terrific experience with Biota, both from design and installation on our fairly large landscape project. A drainage/water issue drove the project and that was handled beautifully. We expanded to all beds getting an upgrade. The colors and textures that replaced our tired landscaping is a joy to look at everyday. We are now having them maintain our installation as well. A SOLID team! They are ALL considerate, thoughtful and talented. A solid recommendation!

Our experience with Biota was excellent. The design experience was a good combination of listening to our wants/needs and providing advice about what was feasible in our space. The installation crew was incredibly friendly, respectful, gentle, and again, very responsive to our wants/needs and flexible with changes in the plan. Once work started, it was completed in timely fashion. We appreciated the daily email updates from our site manager. Our new steps, walkway, patio, plantings, and backyard are so lovely and inviting. This is certainly a company providing high-end service— not cheap, but you get what you pay for and it was totally worth it.

From the start when Elizabeth (landscape architect at Biota) created a design, she got what we wanted when we didn’t even know. She created a beautiful multi season low maintenance yard with the shade and social areas we wanted.

Our neighbor asked how we found contractors willing to work late and early in the landscaping season, one word Biota

Also Tom, the landscape lead gave us in person and email updates. Super detailed and awesome diligent team!

With a significant yard overhaul we did have a few issues, but Biota took care of it with redesign, and strong relationships with vendors to get the issues fixed to our satisfaction.

I highly recommend Biota. We would hire them again in a heart beat.
