Electrical reviews in St. Louis, Missouri
-
called in July to make an appointment for them hardwire my shed. I scheduled for a month later in August because they claim they didn't have a single opening. They no called and no showed. When I called to ask why they didn't bother to make good with the appointment the woman told me that she would find out and get back to me. She never did. I had to call back again. Then they proceeded to tell me they had no record of the appointment. And that they never would have made an appointment with me for 2 pm . Basically called me a liar and said I had never made an appointment with him. When I told him I wanted to speak to the manager the woman hung up on me two different time refusing to speak with me or let me speak to her manager

Last year, we hired Fielder Electric to upgrade an existing panel from 100 to 200 amp, install a new electric meter, and replace three GFCI receptacles in the kitchen to ensure compliance with STL County code. The staff arrived on time and began completing the work. As time progressed it became apparent that work would have to stop temporarily so a tile saw could be retrieved. Once the saw was obtained, the work was completed without any further disruptions. Three days later STL County arrived to inspect the work and stated: "everything looks good". The county inspector signed off without issue.
I found the staff to be professional and polite. We have been using Fielder for several years and will continue to do so. Our past experience with Fielder has included new ceiling fans and new GFCI receptacles.
The reason for this late post is I plan on contacting them in the future for additional work and wanted the public to know of our satisfaction. It is regretful that others have not had the same positive experience we have enjoyed. I understand Fielder may not necessarily be the least expensive, however, when it comes to safety and adhering to electrical code, I would rather pay more and have the work completed correctly. -
The gentlemen who came to do the job were professional and I believe did an adequate job- however when the job was bid it was unclear how much work woudl be needed and they estimated 2 days with the caveat that if it was less time consuming - we could adjust the bill. The job took 6 hours. When we tried to talk with the woman who manages the billing , we were blasted on the phone with rude remarks. Frankly- I was ready to pay the proposed price and see if I could get them to include a small additional job of installing a bathroom fan- just installation- but I never was able to get there because this woman was so disrespectful, and didn't let me finish a sentence- overtalking me about their right to charge me the proposed price because they never included the amount of time the job would take in the bid- that was only communcated verbally . I have done several rehabs, I have worked with many contractors and I have never encountered behavior like this. The icing on the cake is that she refused let me speak to anyone else when I asked to speak to the owner- which by the way - were the first words out of my mouth, "hello, I'd like to leave a message for Matt please." It went down hill from there.

Fielder Electric has been our electrician of choice for many years. We have used Fielder to rewire an entire home, to install upgrades, to fix issues...you name it! During a recent major storm, the President of the company took it upon himself to come to our home (free of charge!) and inspect some downed wires before we involved Ameren. Every technician with whom we have worked has been professional and thorough. We own five homes in St. Louis and work closely with all of our favorite vendors. Recently, we had a strange experience with Fielder that was out of the norm and has caused us to step away from the company. After two technicians visited one of our homes to install a couple of outlets, we engaged in a series of negative interactions with a member of their office staff. We had questions about our bill and were trying to rectify the situation, as there is a small discrepancy between the amount of time we are being charged for the work and the amount of time the technicians were in our home. Fielder has been unwilling to consider our side of the story and has engaged in negative communication patterns with us. We moved the phone conversation to email because the tone on the phone was negative and we were interrupted several times. We tried to salvage our relationship with Fielder, we tried to come to common ground, and we tried figure things out with them. Fielder was unwilling to consider our perspective. We paid our bill and promised to look elsewhere for all future electrical work. This truly breaks our hearts, but when you work with a company, every level of interaction is important. The technicians, the office staff, the president. Everyone. We wish Fielder the best and we hope they reflect on this and are able to adjust their communication practices in the future.

I had seen an advertisement for this company in our Church bulletin. I called to make an appointment to have 2 light fixtures installed. I should have read the reviews on line first, but did not. In order to save some money, because one light had to be installed on a very high ceiling, my husband took the day off to assist in holding one light while it was being installed. This was suggested by the office employee at Fielder. The night before installation, I called the office again to give new measurements of the height of the ceiling so they had the proper equipment. The employee again asked if my husband was going to be there, and I said yes!
On the day of installation, 2 employees show up, and I got charged for 2 electricians per hour instead of one, AND my husband took the day off. One of the electricians tracked mud on my white carpeting, which took me 3 days to finally get out of rug.
I will do my homework next instillation -
The estimator came by promptly and was very professional. He took the time to answer all my questions and explained everything clearly. He even warned me of some of the downsides of doing the work. I received the bid in a timely manner and it was complete and correct without any further interaction. I requested a couple of extras in the time between signing the contract and the start of the work. I also received the bid for those promptly.
The electricians started the job on time without me even having to be there. They were gone each day before I returned. They had cleaned up after themselves and even took the time to reset my clocks! I did have the pleasure of meeting them on the morning of their last day as I was home to get a bid on some plumbing. The plumbing contractor suggested I have a dedicated circuit installed. They cheerfully agreed to yet another extra even though it was their last day on my job. It was done at a very reasonable cost.
I know that my home posed some challenges (nearly inaccessible attic for one) but I never heard a word of complaint. The job was completed on time with minimal disruption.
All the inspector could say was "very nice". It was my first look inside the new panel. This was clearly the work of people who take immense pride in their work.
By all means get several bids, so you can make an informed decision, but make sure you get one from Fielder. If you value professionalism and pride of workmanship you will not be disappointed. -
I've worked with Fielder Electrical over the past few months to add new electrical capacity to a commercial office space. Their professionalism, and expertise has been invaluable. Fielder is able to design elegant and affordable solutions even when the build-out is atypical and complex. I can't say enough how happy I am with their service. Each time they've helped me the state inspector has barely had to examine it because they know the type of quality work that Fielder does. I wouldn't use any other electrical service unless Fielder was completely booked for months.

We had two light fixtures installed beside a vanity mirror the and they were supposed to be 9 “ from the wall and they installed them only 8” so the spacing just looks off from what we wanted. We caught the mistake before he finished installing but the holes were already cut so we got a “oops...too late now.”
They also over charged us for fixing receptacles that were not on the original quote. Originally they planned to run new wires to the sub panel. But all that was needed was a receptacle to be replaced. The electrician said our bill would be adjusted due to there being much less work completed. Only they did not want to adjust our bill. Their secretary was very rude to us when I called to straighten this out.
Would not ever use these guys again. Do not recommend. -
I was very disappointed with Fielder Electric. The technician was very nice but the information over the phone when I made the appointment was very misleading and deceptive. I had a chandelier with 2 lights not working - the phone operator should have said "we do not fix chandeliers" instead she led me to believe the technician could fix it but he (the technician) said they are NOT allowed to replace a socket. period! $145.00 and he truly was here 10 minutes. I went to Home Depot and bought the sockets for $6.00 and will call "Mr. fix it". Never again Fielder.

They did ok work, problem was the never met a commitment. One visit was told the the worker he couldn't do jobbbecause of the va. No call, just is as it is. second time, arranged to have them here during my hot tub install, told at 4 pm the couldn't make it even though my appointment was 8 to 10 am and I confirmed and was assured a person would be there. No communication. My problem was definitely not theirs. Never again.they just don't care. It's a shame as their techs are good, the management blows.

I had new lights installed by this company and they installed them upside down. When I contacted the company they quickly schedule me another appointment for the contractor to come fix the issue. I was again given a 4 hour window. 11-3 I received a call from the contractor at 3:15, after waiting 4 hours for him to arrive, and he then tells me I will be charged if he comes back out to fix his mistake. Of course I was not going to pay another $170 for his mistake and told him not to come. I called back to speak to management with no response. I’m very disappointed in the way this was handled and would highly discourage anyone from using this company.

I called Fielder with a time sensitive request and they squeezed me in within two days, awesome! Mike was my electrician, came out and repaired my wiring and found that my light fixture was broke as well. Mike went ABOVE AND BEYOND by going out to purchase me a new light fixture (since I was out of state) and replaced the fixture and sent me a photo of the completed work. I can’t STRESS ENOUGH how amazing that small gesture was, and I truly believe this company has AMAZING customer service. I will use them for ANY other electrical needs. I was hesitant to use them based on reviews, but they exceeded my needs and EARNED my respect and loyalty as a customer. The office staff was also super helpful!!!

An electrician with 30+ years of experience did our job. He was thoughtful and a good communicator, and helped us get the details right. Mr. Fielder did the estimate, and saved us thousands on a "drop & bury" with his suggestions for placement. The office was going through a staff change, so there were some dropped messages, but all is well that ends well!!

My experience thus far with Fielder has been horrible! First of all, I received a bid that I sat on for a while because I didn’t trust being charged by the hour at $95 hourly. The two other bids I received gave an exact amount, so I called the office and was told I would be given an estimate on what I would be looking at. That did not happen, I was unaware they had even started on that portion of the contract because I would have been present to ensure they weren’t raking up hours. They claim the general contractor authorized them to do that portion of the contract, I don’t have a general contractor for the project and there’s no mention of anyone being able to authorize anything in our contract.
When I discovered they were doing the hourly portion of the contract, I went by the house and told the electrician I was suppose to be informed about the hours beforehand. He calculated I would be charged for 20 hours, I got a bill for 27.5 hours. I called the office and asked about the discrepancy, so the electrician called me and stated “I gave you an estimate and the hours are what they are”. I reminded him, that he looked at the tickets and added the hours up including that day.
I asked him to send copies of the tickets so I can verify with the contractor onsite doing the tear out. The hired contractor who was onsite to do tear out told me that the electrician left for an extended period time and he was waiting on him for a couple of hours.!
It took the company a whole month to send over the tickets! I know, sounds a bit shady. Then they had the nerve to try and charge me a late fee.. it seems that they got an attitude because I asked for proof of the hours. When reviewing the tickets, a lot of things do not add up.
Nevertheless, I decided to go ahead and pay them so I can be done.. 07/26/19, I called the office to make a payment on my American Express. Guess what? They don’t take American Express! I do not recommend the company and honestly I don’t trust them! -
I've worked with this company in the past on several projects and was always quite happy with the work performed. This has changed quite a bit recently. The last couple of times I've worked with them their office staff is rude/unprofessional.
They also have major scheduling issues. They scheduled me for two days of work and on both days just never showed up and didn't bother to call and tell me they were not coming. When they finally did come the workers arrived around noon, worked for 2 hours and left. Office later called to schedule the completion of the work which would be another 3 week wait.
I would advise you look at a different company for electrical work. -
I had a very positive experience with Fielder. Matt was very professional and courteous. The electricians did a very professional job, were polite and cleaned up after themselves. All for a very reasonable price. Also thanks to Paige and Erica for helping with the proposal. I would definitely hire Fielder again.

I've been working with Fielder Electric for nearly 3 decades. They are the only company I prefer to work with when it comes to needing electrical services. Their pricing is competitive and reasonable. Everyone at Fielder Electric (the owners, office and crew employees) are extremely courteous, knowledgeable and punctual. As a General Contractor, the Fielder Electric crew has come to know what I expect of them when they arrive on my job-site, which makes managing all of my scheduling run smoothly and in a timely fashion. I highly recommend this family owned and operated company for any project - large or small - that requires a licensed, bonded and trustworthy electrician.

Very rude office staff, and a big rip-off with their service fees. I have used Fielder several times over the years to install switches, install outlets, fix outlets, etc. Have never gotten bids, just call them for the work. Recently had to call two times within a short span due to noticing multiple failed outlets at different times, and they would not remove one of the (excessive) $95 service fees. Woman on the phone acted like my business was irrelevant to them and was totally inflexible. Switching to different electrician now, Fielder can take a hike.

I've been hesitant to leave a negative review as I hate doing so but I feel I need to share my experience. We had them out to install under the cabinet lighting in our new cabinets. The crew showed up, did a good job and I even bought them lunch. After they left I noticed damage to my kitchen cabinet. We just had them painted a month prior and I know that damage wasn't there before. Also they had to lean over the counter to reach under one of the cabinets which is how it got damaged. I called and got a response that day and a guy named Mike came out and inspected it. I was told they would be in touch. Then nothing. Called and left multiple messages. Then got a live person who said "oh he hasn't gotten back to you? I'll have him call you." Guess what, no one called us. Called a few more times with no call back. It seems the theme based on other reviews is almost to hide and hope when things get damaged it blows over. Its frustrating as the money and time to put into fighting with them is more than me repairing myself which is what i have to do. PlEASE do NOT use them or if you do, take pictures the day of the work with a time stamp so you have evidence of the damage.

I'm a realtor and have referred Fielder to a number of clients over the years. I have also hired them for work in my own home. But never again!
Their electricians do great work. We were very pleased with the large job Randy did for us, and the office was quick to send a receipt and lien waiver. However, I can no longer in good conscience use or refer this company because the owner, Matt Fielder, is SO RUDE!!
He came to our house for an estimate a couple years ago, just a few days after my father-in-law had died suddenly. We had forgotten to confirm the appointment the day before (because we were busy making funeral plans) but we had it on our schedule and were there when we said we would be. After Matt arrived, he spent almost the entire time lecturing us, saying he shouldn't have showed up and risked having his time wasted. Never mind that 1) we just had a death in the family; 2) we were repeat customers who had recently spent nearly $4000 with his company; and 3) no one's time was wasted because WE WERE THERE for the appointment! Needless to say, we didn't hire Fielder.
Just a few weeks ago I decided to give them another chance and refer them to a client who needed work on knob & tube wiring. Once again, Matt Fielder arrived and spent most of the time berating and lecturing my client....all because his office had not passed along pertinent details of what was needed for the bid and he had to get on a ladder and look in the attic. He actually asked the client why she couldn't put down her INFANT and get the ladder set up!
I have never written a negative review, or any Google review for that matter. But this is no way to treat people, especially when you advertise yourself as a "Christian" company. Matt Fielder, you need a serious attitude adjustment! -
We had terrible experiences with this company and terrible customer service from the owner. They left a hole in an exterior wall that we had to ask repeatedly to be repaired. We we're told the hole in our ceiling wasn't their responsibility. They ended up trying to charge us $1000 extra because the trenching performed was difficult even after they only performed half the trenching from the bid.
They didn't call for all the inflections required so I had to deal with that on my own. When they did have comments on permits it was to question other contractors that they didn't seem to like because 'we've never worked that company'. They wouldn't return the calls pig our other contractors either.
The worst was dealing with the owner. I couldn't get him to return my calls and left multiple messages. He claimed never to have gotten them, but the office workers told me they did give them to him every time. When I did finally get him on the phone and tried to explain the issues, he quickly jumped to insults. Fielder claimed to have a great phone system but also had posted online that they were having trouble with their phones.
Stay away for your own sake.
