Nice garden nursery but wouldn’t recommend the at home tree service. Waited weeks for an appointment and than they sent someone not qualified to treat the trees after being an hour late. Waited another couple weeks for them to send someone out to treat the trees and than they tried to reschedule the day before they were coming.
Would also recommend getting a bid for any work you want done in writing, was told one price and than received a bill for $150.00 more than I was quoted when they came out. I called and tried to get it cleared up but they were not even willing to stand by their original quote. Just be sure you have it in writing.

They stock above average plants quality-wise. It has a large selection of trees. It also has soil, rocks and gravel. I ordered a yard of soil today to fill in some low spots in my garden. The cost was around $35 but they would have had to the cost to bring the order up to the $100 minimum for delivery. So the sales lady told me they had "triple mix" for about $58 a yard. I had to pay the hundred bucks anyway, so I said to send to me the triple mix. It arrived and I went a bit berserk. Triple mix is not soil or dirt. It is a fluffy, fly away in the wind, extremely staining black mix of useless material. It was like black potting soil.
It rained after they unloaded it and the horrible black mess blackened the sidewalk with something that looked like used motor oil. It blackened my shoes which I managed to trail through the house.
I contacted neighbors to remove the pile for free for their flowers. It was useless for garden dirt or soil to fill my low spots. I had specifically asked for dirt or soil, not potting mix. I should not have let them switch me. They said that the soil had no nutrients. Of course all soil has nutrients! Overall, their prices are okay but on the upper end.
I would suggest that customers not to use the triple mix in areas where children play. I suspect that material may come from sewer-reclaimation and may contain lead or other dangerous materials. It should be tested before using around children.

They do not answer the phone, The phone number they have goes to the owner's cell number not the store number so if you are trying to reach somebody at the store they give you the same number that ends in 1551 from the cell number, that you got from the Internet so this is why I'm leaving this response I love going to the store but not always wanting to drive there without finding out what they have 1st for what I'm looking for something in particular. Not a very good way to do business if you're trying to get some information before driving all the way out to sparks..
So again , love the store but today after several tries I give it a 1 out of 1-5 scale

Some of the worst customer service I’ve ever gotten. The only reason I’ll ever go. There is for the full circle compost. Staff is grumpy and knowledgeable, and appears to be poorly treated..

I am a local Landscape Designer here in Sparks, Nevada. My family owns a Landscape contracting business and frequently shop at all of the nurseries in town for our clients. In the past I have spent thousands of dollars in plant materials from Rail City Garden Center. Although I have been very pleased with the merchandise and the staff at Rail City, the owner Paul is absolutely one of the most disrespectful nursery owners I have ever spoken to.
This morning my brother and I went to rail city to purchase some plants for a client of ours and would have spent at minimum of $500 today in merchandise. However, I ask to speak to Owner about purchasing some broken or unused storage shelves in his back lot along with the nursery stock I had intended on buying. The staff member I had spoken with was extremely helpful and accommodating yet when I spoke with Paul the Owner, he did not want to give me or my brother the time of day.
He agreed that he had what we were hoping to purchase but said: "No".
Otherwise in his words: I have what you want but do not wish to give you the time of day or the opportunity to purchase, and turned his back to my brother and myself. He was so disrespectful in fact that even the staff member that had walked us over to speak to him was very apologetic and extended an offer to us to come back at another time to attempt to make our purchase.
Frankly I felt so disrespected that I put back all of the plant stock from the nursery that I was ready to purchase and left to spend my money at another nursery in town. I from here on out will refrain from making any large purchases from Rail City Garden Center merely because of Paul.

The selection of trees, flowers, and vegetables are real nice. We bought some roses for mothers day. We were planning on buying some trees as well. However, the older gentleman on the registers was real rude. So, we will probably buy elsewhere.

Wow ! My husband and I are seniors. Town people are always saying " buy local" buy from Mom & Pops local small businesses.
We went to Rail City because we are completely re-doing our pond and waterfall. We walked around for over an hour admiring the statues and yard art. We asked about the pond pumps etc...a very nice employee said the pond shop was locked up but had another person open it. He was laughing because the prices were all in the other building. We told him we'd bring our helper back in morning to make our purchase of pump, pad and pond liner.
My husband wanted a little boy fishing stature and I wanted a yard girl bird feeder. She was 209.00 .As seniors we get quite a few 10% discounts around town. I asked if we might get a discount on the yard girl. The one woman employee laughed out loud stating " we are not a third world country " !! WTH ?? So of course we are humiliated. The owner came out to see what item I wanted. ,he refused 10% and said we should come back in December..
I won't EVER EVER go back. Buy local ?? They really don't want your business. We did not buy the fisherman, we didn't buy the garden girl and we will not buy our pond equipment there. Ive taken my parents to Rail so many times. Never again 😒 🙃

Great little local nursery worth visiting at least once a year. They offer niche things like all the stuff for your Koi ponds and great starter plants for food gardens. Year round cute for gifts and home decor items. Some staff very knowledgeable and can help with minor or major garden planting. This is also where to pickup the UNR Garden tour tickets done in August of each year.

I was looking for bails of straw for a landscaping project and called to ask… was told that they had only 1 available for 12.29 each… I drove to the store and found my way into the store… it’s behind another business on the in and out. Get in the store and was then told that the price is now $25 a bail but they had 4 bails left. I was told it would be $100 for four bails… crazy! Asking where the bails are located was told in the back somewhere… we drove around the parking lot and finally found them… waiting for 10 minutes and no one ever showed to load the truck or help us… we just did it ourselves and got out of there! Horrible service, support and pricing and would never recommend this store to anybody!

I was just talking to my wife about the horrible owner of this place. We were at the register, just paid for a chicken garden statue, and realized it was missing a foot. We weren’t even asking for our money back, would have been happy to exchange or just have a store credit, and the owner said, and I quote ‘my customers are smart enough to inspect things before they buy them’, and refused to let us exchange it. What an incredible jerk. We will never go back there, and I will do everything in my power to tell others not to go there. This was a few years ago and hopefully the jerk has retired, because the way to run a business is not by insulting your customers.

Tho I guess we weren’t actually his customers. We weren’t good enough to shop there because we aren’t “smart enough”.

Edit: Reading other reviews here Ive learned this jerk’s name is Paul. Paul: you need to be a nicer person. Its good for business. There is no excuse for the way you treated us. If you cant be nice to people you should find another line of work.

Last July I had bought two fruited mulberry trees from Rail City and paid to have them delivered and installed. First, I called Rail City to see if they had any fruited mulberry trees. I was told they did not. I ran into a former employee at another nursery and he told me to go to the back and look because the owner doesn't keep inventory and they have no clue what they have. Low and behold, I did what he told me and I found three fruited mulberry trees. So, I bought two of them and paid to have them delivered and installed. The guys came out, planted and staked the trees as per the written agreement that came with the trees. One tree made it through the winter. The other did not. I went to Rail City on 06/14/2020 to talk to them about replacing the tree and was told I would get a call this morning. Well (06/15/2020) about ten minutes ago a lady named Cindy called. She states that Pawl says that there was no drip system installed so therefore they are not going to honor their warranty. Nowhere in the papers that I signed for delivery and install did it say I had to have a drip system. No one told me that I had to have a drip system installed when I bought the trees and the guys installing did not say I had to have a drip system installed. Cindy admitted that there was NOTHING in writing in the contract that said I had to have a drip system installed. I have bought multiple trees at this nursery over the years and NO ONE has ever told me that I had to have a drip system installed. I have brought trees back myself in the past with receipt and there have never been any questions as to whether or not I had a drip system installed. I have multiple trees on my property with no drip installed to any of them and many have been here for over 20 years without a drip system. Rail City, you can and should be doing better than this. Your own employee admitted there was NOTHING in my written contract that said I had to have a drip system. Poor business practice all the way around. Beware of the purchases you make from this company. I would not recommend them at all.

What a great local spot for some awesome plants and flowers! The place is very inviting and warm. A tad hidden but I see it as a hidden gem. They have a good variety of plants and very helpful staff. They also sell fountains and live fish, chickens. The sales floor inside is very cute and well-decorated. You like eggs? They sell cage-free eggs here lol. I particularly loved all the herbs and fruit plants they have. Come by some time!!

Rail City has a great selection of landscape plants, trees and shrubs, annuals bulbs and perennials. I found a great selection of heirloom vegetables, as well as grafted tomatoes and many unique varieties of tomatoes, strawberries, peppers and pumpkins. The selection includes a lot of cool weather lettuces, chard, kale and peas. I really love the varieties of succulents too. They carry a full selection of organic options for your garden. They have a great home decor area with lots of fun signs and country decor. On the north end is the pond supply, so you can get set up with a nice pond. They also do seminars on the weekends. Staff is friendly and very courteous as well as knowledgeable.

Rail City is a great store with a wide variety of items that you can't find in box stores. And they're locally owned.

    Warning ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️
Do not shop here. The prices are misleading and or false advertising.
Went to buy soil, I wanted Ocean Forest Fox Farm. They were out, so I went to leave and the lady said. We have Pride Lands , New to us.
She said if you buy 3 bags at 17.99 you get the 4th one free.
Pay for it and the receipt said 17.99 for 4 bags.
Go back into the store and asked why I'm I paying 17.99 for 4 bags.
The Con Artist move, the original price is 24.00 per bag.
The lady never said that the price was 24.00.
They will not take the soil back.
You will feel ripped off and leave unhappy.
I will never set foot in this place ever again.
I will be making a complaint to Consumer.

Greater variety of soil supplements than other nurseries in town. I just wish they were friendly.

On my most recent visit, the lady that assisted me was over the top rude. I told the cashier. She seemed to care, but I was too irritated to discuss it.

Usually this place is great and has friendly staff. While waiting in line today though, one of the employees (or owner) was having a rather stern interaction with a customer. The customer wished to buy half a yard of gravel but stated his truck was not able to haul the full amount and asked if he could make two trips. The man at the counter said no he was in the wrong and that is not how they do thing there. He could purchase a half a yard since that was the smallest purchase size and haul away 1/4 yard. Then if he wanted more he could purchase another half a yard and again haul away 1/4. The customer was overly nice and obliged to being shorted what he was owed in order to get the gravel. Can’t help to feel some of this interaction was due to biased viewpoints of the man behind the counter.

This all sat unwell with me so I put my thing down I planned to purchase and walked out.

Stop visiting rail city nursery a couple years ago. Staff were very arrogant and didn't seem very happy. Tried ago a couple of days ago. While some of the staff has changed still the same. What a shame nice nursery over priced like all nursery. At least make me feel good before you accept my money.

Yard work just hits different when you fire up those loud two-stroke machines and bug the neighbors a little.
