Plumbing reviews in Brooklyn, New York

Called Stanley Lewis to fix a problem with my boiler recently. Dale did a great job. He had my problem solved quickly and I was very happy with the service provided. I will recommend them to friends in the future.

I've been a customer of SLPH for at least 35 years.
They have always been professional courteous and reasonably and competitively priced.
If your in NYC and especially Brooklyn, SLPH is the place to call for all of your plumbing heating and gas-line issues -
It went very well "all in all". I called & hired them on a Saturday for a gas leak that I thought was corrected by someone else even though every other plumber I called was not doing gas leak work on a Saturday. I had to also leave the country a few days after that. To be clear the whole building including a restaurant had no heat, cooking gas or hot water. The problem took a couple of weeks to fix from "start to finish" but it was not due to a result of plumbers not showing up or lack of effort. Many logistics were involved that are too much to list here. To a small extent, the plumbers office even communicated with my tenants via email while I was away to avoid a collapse in communications. In once instance, they even came out briefly on a Sunday (no one does that in NYC) to check on one of the no heat apt's during NYC's brutal cold front. The pricing was not cheap & some costs were unexpected but the problem was fully resolved.

We lived right down the street from their headquarters for over 10 years, and used them for all our plumbing needs. Now even though we’ve moved to a new neighborhood, we continue to call on them as they are fast, reliable, and professional. We’d definitely recommend them to any fellow Brooklynites.

My Rheem high efficiency hot water heater broke while still under warranty but manufacturer said it would be a 40 business day supply delay due to COVID production issues! Stanley Lewis worked very hard on finding me a solution with another manufacturer that would not require additonal changing the existing piping. My hot water heater is on the 4th floor of my NYC townhouse and that added to the instalation issues. Mr. Alex Lewis and his technical team were very responsive, professional and personable in handling my situation.

Terrible. Don’t call back even even when they had promised to do so, twice - two different people- and fail to show up for an appointment without explanation. Still have not heard from them.
Charge an inordinate amount for a service call, over $400, without resolving the issue and leaving us with 2 gaping holes in the ceiling.
We have been loyal customers for years, but things have apparently changed at the company and we had to move on. -
So this morning, my toilet stopped flushing and the water wouldn't stop running. I tried for an hour to fix it myself, but I had no luck. My fiance called Roto Rooter, who we've dealt with in the past. Even despite it being an emergency, they gave us a wait time between 9:00-11:00. By 10:30, they still had no idea when they'd be able to send a plumber, and by then I was extremely angry and annoyed. Saturday is my only day off, and I certainly didn't want to spend it waiting on a plumber with an attitude. So, I decided to give Stanley Lewis Plumbing & Heating a call to see if they could help us. The woman I spoke to on the phone was so nice and professional. I explained the problem and expressed my concern. The woman on the phone was absolutely amazing; she literally talked me through the whole problem! I didn't think I'd be able to fix it even with her explaining the process to me, but I was able to fix it! She explained in detail what to do going forward and also what not to do. I'm extremely grateful for her help and if I ever run into any issues in the future, I will DEFINITELY be calling Stanley Lewis Plumbing for help. They are awesome!

Excellent and quick service.
They expertly perform my furnace service and monthly sprinkler system inspection. They most recently installed a new 100 gallon commercial water heater, without a hitch, DURING THE SNOW STORM in February 2021. VERY RELIABLE!!!! -
Fantastic experience. Our gas was shut off on a cold friday evening. After calling a number of plumbers who didn't want to or couldn't handle the job Alex from Stanley Lewis called back, walked us through exactly what we needed to do and what we were facing. They showed up on time first thing Monday morning, worked through the day Monday and Tuesday. Gas was back on by Wednesday evening. Cost was exactly as estimated-no hidden fees or surprises. In a difficult situation they were amazing to work with and very knowledgeable and reassuring. Have already spread the word to friends and neighbors.

Our washing machine drain began leaking, either from a break in the pipe or a clog. We contacted Stanley Lewis, and everything was handled promptly and professionally, from our first call to our final payment. Communication was excellent. The technician who came to do the job -- Cliff -- arrived right on time and quickly determined and resolved our problem (a clog), answering all our questions and clearly explaining the steps he was taking to fix things. He also respected our concerns about safety given the current Covid 19 threat. We will definitely be recommending this company and using it again.

The company was very professional and fast. We called mid-afternoon and an appointment was scheduled for the following morning at 9:00
am.Two men arrived at before 9:00 and a new heater was installed by
11:30 am. They also removed the old one from the premises. Even though their cost was higher that other companies I called, I decided on Stalley Lewis based on their reputation in the community. -
I had a leak in my basement and couldn't figure out where the leak was coming from. Stanley Lewis Plumbing came immediately and they assessed the situation and was able to determine the cause. They were extremely professional and handled my problem with the attention that was needed. I would proudly recommend their business and use their services again. It was a pleasure working with them.

A good repair but they did more work than I had asked for without warning or asking me for permission. I complained that they had done extra without notifying me and replaced parts I had not requested to be changed. I asked that those additional charges be removed. In the end we agreed to remove a measly $50 from my bill and for this they labeled me a difficult customer and will no longer provide service. Watch out. They will overcharge you and then blame you for (respectfully!) disagreeing with their decisions.
edit: The long winded reply below shows they’re more interested in arguing than transparent pricing or customer service. Avoid. -
The Stanley Lewis team was a pleasure to work with. They were very professional and polite at all times. Shanie, Shawn amd Karen kept me updated at every stage of the project until the successful closure. And of course, Dale, who effeciently completed the work. Call this company for any heating and plumbing work. 👍

I have used Stanley Lewis for many years for a number of different plumbing issues in my house. They always do a great job, arrive on time, and are very pleasant to work with. Highly recommend.

Our experience with Stanley Lewis was as good as customer service gets. Our water heater died and after being given an estimate that was highway robbery I called SLPH and I could not be more grateful for all their help and kindness. Paperwork went quickly back and forth the installers came and were fast and respectful of our home. I could not recommend this company more.
Michelle who answered my call was fantastic and even made me laugh during a very unfunny time. Well priced and lovely humans. -
Hear about Stanley Lewis Plumbing from a friend who had his boiler replaced and he raved about their service. Tried for myself after my water heater started leaking a little. They gave me a quote which was in line with other quotes i received, so I decided to give them a try. 2 men arrived Saturday morning, pleasant, friendly and ready to work. They removed and installed the new water heater in less than 2 hours, cleaned up their mess, demonstrated the controls and showed me how to do the rebate. I am pleased and will be calling them again.

I contacted Stanley Lewis Heating and Plumbing (SLHP) to fix a leaking valve on a heating element SLHP installed two weeks prior and replace a malfunctioning hot water shut-off. On-site, I also add a washer connection to the list of tasks. Here is how it went after I scheduled the appointment:
* Mary calls to remind about the two plumbing technicians that will be coming to my house in 3 days but cannot provide the scheduled time range of their arrival, despite a SLPH team member giving me a specific time range when I made the appointment a few days prior. Eventually, Mary checks the system after I state 3 times that a time range was given to me during a prior call and I just need her to confirm what the time range is.
* Dale the SLPH technician that installed the radiator heating element two weeks prior which is now leaking arrives at 9:13 am and states right when he walks in the door that he has a 10:30 am doctor’s appointment, raising concerns about potential job abandonment.
* Dale's two visits are needed to install a radiator heating element correctly; the first attempt resulted in a leak due to missing thread seal tape. This tape should have been put on during the first visit.
* Prior to Dale leaving he needs to use the bathroom. He proceeds to go in to the bathroom and leave the door partially open. I only realize that he’s about to use the bathroom when I glance that way from another room and see him fidgeting with his pants. I thought he went into the bathroom to check something on the other radiator in there. Once I realized he was about the use the bathroom, almost in plain view of me, I promptly pull the door closed all the way.
* Listin mistakenly connects hot and cold water lines during a washing machine hookup, potentially causing damage. He provides an illegible receipt and refuses to give a clear price breakdown, prompting a call to the office for clarification.
* The office reveals a high flat rate of $279 for a quick washing machine installation, almost double what other plumbers quoted. This washing machine hookup only required that the two water lines be connected along with the water drain tube. I supplied ALL of the parts needed for the installation. The install took 20 minutes.
* Listin on his way out says to me: “Miss, next time go with the other guys If you want some cheap job. We are professionals and we do good work”. Mind you this is the same person who just installed the hot water line to the cold water line and the cold water line to the hot one on this washing machine about 30 minutes prior.
* I've depended on this company for eight previous jobs due to their licensure and responsiveness. However, the declining quality of work and professionalism from their service providers is becoming a significant concern. This sentiment is reinforced by my experience with a boiler replacement two years ago, which required seven (7) visits by five (5) different technicians from the SLHP team to get it right. -
They charged us $650 for a useless procedure and refuse to respond to my complaints. Stanley Lewis plumbing sent two guys to send an exploratory camera down our sewer to see why we were getting sewage water into our basement. They spent no more than 1/2 hr and charged us $650. The report was that our Victorian sewer was in perfect condition. Unfortunately the sewer water continued to come into our house. We have since had two additional scopes plus die tests both confirming the corroded cast iron pipe was leaking badly into the soil and draining into our basement. I would not recommend this company to do any work. They sent technicians who did not perform their job properly and a negligent about customer service and follow up. I am extremely dissatisfied.

I engaged Stanley Lewis Plumbing and Heating to solve a full-house radiator-geyser crisis. The situation was alarming and overwhelming.
The first technician did not address the main problem. However, over a series of follow up calls, the office did identify a more appropriate technician for the necessary complicated work.
My five star review is a compliment to the professional service which followed. With evident skill, a deep knowledge of the field, respectful and thoughtful care in his work, clear and articulate communication, intelligence and good humor, Wilson solved the overreaching problem, the incidental/related issues, and set things up for a warm, dry winter ahead!
I am relieved and grateful.
Update worth noting: Heat continues very warm, most remarkably in silence. Banging, hissing and sighing are now notably absent. -
I'm a long time customer for Stanley Lewis Plumbing & Heating and recently I had a great experience with them. I called the office during the recent bitter cold spell in an effort to have my boiler repaired. As usual the lady's in the office were pleasant and immediately dispatched a technician within 2 hours of my call to the office who discovered my thermostat was defective. The technician had a replacement thermostat in his truck so our heat was back up and running in less than an hour.
Thank you for the quick response and great service! I will continue to use these guys and refer them to my neighbors.
