Antonio is as professional as it gets. We contacted him and he started work on our house less than a week later despite it being the holiday season. He explained every step, expense, and reason for why he was doing what he did to turn our mess of a house back into a home. From doing our full bathroom remodel and other small things like updating some plumbing items and repairing drywall and painting to completely replacing the roof, the job was done with great care and skill. We hired Hometown Design and Build to carry out a rather major remodel of our house, tearing out the old kitchen and pantry and bumping out the back of the house to add a sunny nook breakfast area and full bath. The house was built in the late 1920’s with gumwood trim and arts and crafts style. We wanted the space to have all the modern conveniences while maintaining the style of the rest of the house. They worked intensively with us to design the space, select the cabinets, countertops, flooring, windows and tile. They saved as much as possible of the old gumwood trim and reused it creatively in the new space. They even mounted a pair of stained-glass windows that my wife had made into our new windows. There was not a gumwood door available for the sliding pocket door into the new bathroom, so they contracted out to have one custom made from poplar which they stained and varnished to match the old trim. The result far exceeded our initial expectations in every way. The project did take several months to complete, and the dust was sometimes overwhelming. If you want a quick and cheap job done, you should probably look elsewhere, but if you want meticulous craftsmanship by skilled and conscientious contractors who listen to your ideas and do their best to make them happen, I recommend Dan and Jim Ludwig and their company.

Jim and Dan Ludwig (HOMETOWN Design-Build) transformed an under-utilized breakfast area and powder room into an efficient and very attractive Arts & Crafts kitchen, in keeping with my late-Victorian house. And they turned my old kitchen into a 2nd bath, complete with tub and shower.

With close attention to detail throughout, the Ludwig’s created these spaces to reflect the rest of the house, down to the moldings used in all the doors, floors and windows. With the exception of efficient new plumbing and lighting, these rooms give one the illusion that they have always been here, an integral part of the original design.

Dan and Jim transformed our unfinished basement into exactly the space we wanted. They were incredibly professional, easy to work with and kind. They worked hard to make our vision a reality. Even though supply chain problems with materials are not uncommon nowadays, they were so organized and responsive that this was not a major issue. Working with them was so stress-free and pleasant, we would hire them again in a heartbeat!

We recently had a deck added to our house by Hometown Design-Build. They did an awesome job. We were very pleased with the solid construction of our new deck. It is exactly what we wanted. They consulted with us every step of the way to make sure we were getting what we wanted and their expert input was helpful in making decisions. We even have some nice weather to enjoy it this year. Dan and Jim recently completed a pretty major renovation of the first floor of our home, which included the removal of walls and a complete redesign of the kitchen and dining room, access to the backyard, demolition of an existing fireplace and chimney, and redesign and rebuild of a front room fireplace and built-ins. The team was like part of the family, and we were on a first name basis with everyone who came in to work on the project. Our home was always left clean and secure, making it much easier to be here while the construction was taking place. Through temporary walls and a dining room magically turned into a temporary kitchen that the team set up, we had a somewhat normal life as this was all taking place.

I’ve worked with many remodelers and contractors over the years. I’m very impressed with the craftsmanship, detail and level of service Hometown provides. They are incredibly patient, skilled and have a great team of experienced professionals.

In 2022 Dan tore down our old 2 story porch and built a new 2 story porch. He did a GREAT job. It looks great and its solid. See picture. And it was also the lowest price we came across. It has held up exceptionally well over the past 3 years. I highly recommend Dan Ludwig.

We appreciated the thoughtful suggestions regarding the design and products we purchased, quality of workmanship and attention to detail. Jim and Dan Ludwig were extremely helpful in making a multitude of decisions e.g. location of lighting, height of the stove hood, ceiling molding, cupboard handles. The herringbone tile backsplash adds a wonderful aesthetic quality to the kitchen. All of this at a reasonable cost.
