Tree reviews in Rochester, New York

Took a long time and some pestering to get on the schedule despite having paid a down payment. Hidden processing fees that only show up on the receipt after the fact despite having credit card as the only form of payment. They did decent work, but didn’t take down everything we discussed at the estimate.
All in all, if they’re the cheapest estimate you get I’d recommend them. Otherwise I’d go elsewhere where they might care a little more about your job. -
Dealing with Birchcrest for our tree removal needs was great. They reviewed our needs, gave us an itemized quote ( with very competitive pricing) just like we requested, and then came in and completed the job to our full satisfaction in one day. I will definitely have them back again for our next tree project.

The tree cutting service did the job from start to finish in a very short time. We were worried about our deck getting damaged but was handled to perfection! Cleanup was done extremely well both on the deck and lawn! I would highly recommend Birchcrest Tree Service to anyone!

I crashed my drone at the very top of a nearly 100 foot tall tree, and Birchcrest was able to send someone over on a very short notice to recover the drone from the tree. Everyone was incredibly kind and helpful. I can’t thank them enough for helping me out, especially Steve and Thomas, who came over within an hour of calling and were able to successfully recover my drone. 10/5 stars.

Birchcrest tree and landscape was in my neighborhood to remove tree limbs obstructing power lines.
They did not clean up after themselves and left me with tons of debris to clean up on my own. Not to mention uprooting and crushing hundreds of dollars and hours of landscaping.
Birchcrest did not once consult with me or my partner on how to best access the yard, nor did they acknowledge the several pathways I have created to access where they needed to work. Nope, just saw the pathway and chose to trample through my plants.
This may be a small crime but I’d expect a landscaping company to recognize how disappointing this is to the gardener hobbyist. Or one would assume a landscaper to be able to discern what is a perennial and what is a weed.
I just dead headed my hardy geraniums yesterday and now I’m looking at them laying in the dirt, roots and all. Further, the privacy I have created between my plot and my neighbors completely gone. -
Trimmed for RG&E and they absolutely destroyed my cedars, left debris all over, cuts were extremely uneven, left one of my trees dead and their supervisor didn't reach out even though I complained about their terrible work and asked that I get a call to discuss their damage. No tree service could have done a worse job and I wasn't home when they destroyed my property. I had a fairly even lovely tree line along my property.
The owners response is completely unacceptable and just shows everyone how bad this company is. They destroyed our trees which were fairly even at the pole height and absolutely could care less. They left an absolute mess and there cutting if you look carefully shows atrocious work and they don't follow RG&E's requirements. I've had responsible tree services prune the trees at my past house and they never hacked my trees.
DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU DON'T CARE WHAT THEY DO TO YOUR PROPERTY!!! -
I had 2 Tall maples removed down to root flare in my front yard. The tallest was by the road and close to power lines. The primary cutter was incredibly skilled in maneuvering the crane bucket for trimming branches, topping the tree, then hewing the trunk safely. As he worked, two others used a tractor for branch and large cuts removal. Branch chipper ran at times to prevent a backlog. Coordination was impressive. They were all focussed on task and their partners' tasks.
The second maple was a bit shorter, but closer to other trees. Cutter climbed that tree with rigging, and set it up so the tractor was cabling for fall alignment after branch removal. They were done in ½ day. Logs were removed the next morning.
They were gracious and professional. You could see serious consideration in their process throughout. Both trees were in poor shape and were tall enough that had they fallen wrong, my ranch house could have been smashed. I feel much safer in my home...and now I can plan a sunny flowerbed thru winter, too! I have more trees with happy woodpeckers, so I foresee calling birchcrest again. -
Summary: Birchcrest was wholly unaware of the job status of this project, invoiced before the job was complete, and left a downed tree on our property for nearly 2 months.
The Job: Removal and disposal of a large silver maple, stump grinding/removal, disposal of stump grounds, topsoil and re-seed.
The Good: Nothing but positive feedback for the workers who performed the tree removal, disposal and stump grinding. They were polite, efficient, qualified, respectful, and left our property in as orderly a fashion as possible after each phase of the project.
The Bad: We were not notified of the scheduled date for tree removal. For work from home professionals who are often on client calls, it is helpful to know in advance when a service provider will be ringing your doorbell.
The cut down tree was left on our lawn, between curb and sidewalk, for another crew to come and remove. We were told this should occur within 3 days. 6 1/2 weeks later (early December) no forward movement had occurred on the project and Birchcrest sent an invoice for the full job. I contacted Birchcrest, and the person who answered my call was shocked and immediately sent a crew to remove the cut-down tree.
It took several more weeks for stump grinding.
We were told topsoil and seeding could not occur until spring due to the unexplained delays; despite this representation from Birchcrest they then applied topsoil and grass seed on December 29th. This final step seemed rushed merely for purposes of getting paid and was inconsistent with their earlier representations about how they could not finish the job until spring due to the weather conditions.
Overall: Birchcrest knows how to remove trees skillfully and efficiently - that carries weight when looking for a reputable business for this service. Customer service and communication, scheduling/organization, and billing procedures need a significant upgrade in a residential customer setting. -
Birchcrest came out last week to trim the trees near the power lines in our neighborhood. I believe RG&E contracted them for this project. The experience was, quite frankly, absolutely unacceptable.
The pruning itself was reckless. Two of my backyard trees were cut far beyond what any reasonable power-line clearance standard would require. To make matters worse, a large branch was dropped directly onto our newly planted forsythia bushes, crushing them completely.
The cleanup was equally disappointing. While roughly 80% of the debris was hauled to the street for pickup, the remaining 20% was simply left scattered across my yard, including several branches well over six feet long. That's not an oversight. That's indifference and sloppiness.
I understand that utility right-of-way work involves some disruption. What it should not involve is property damage and an abandoned mess. If this reflects Birchcrest's standard of care, I would not recommend them to anyone looking for competent, professional tree service. -
The tree removal, stump grinding and landscaping were all handled professionally, quickly and completely. Jobsite cleanup was thorough. Your workers were friendly and answered questions.

I had Birchcrest come to finish a job that someone else started, but failed to complete. The guys took time to discuss the best way to do the job. I needed a tree trunk leveled off to about 4 feet high. The first guy left it about 12 feet high! Birchcrest understood the assignment! They completed the project & did an awesome clean up to boot! All of the pieces were placed at the curb & a different truck came to remove them. I’m so happy with the finished product & learned a valuable lesson. Home projects are not the area to save money. Hire the companies you can count on to do the job right!

Ryan and Xavier are our hero’s!! Our indoor cat got out and was chased up a neighbors tree where she spent the night, terrified. They were here shortly after I called today and were so calm and friendly. Our kitty went straight to them and is back home safe! They made it look so easy and were just amazing. We can’t thank them enough!!

Update: I’ve emailed the company 2x at the email address provided by your front desk employee and have received no response from the owner.
Around noon today (1/23/2026), a Birchcrest Tree & Landscape vehicle (INDIANA PLATE: 3871602) blew through a stop sign as it was turning left onto Bonesteel off Rosecroft Drive, and the driver of this dump truck clearly never looked left, and almost struck me in my vehicle with my family inside. As the decrepit old white guy driving almost hit us due to his poor driving, he went out of his way to make smug faces and callously waved at us, driving a massive dump truck negligently while the roads are icy. I don't know if he understands that people have dash cams now, and I am happy to share my dashcam footage with a Manager to ensure they resolve poor driving or poor driver attitude when driving a company vehicle. Pretty clear indicator to me this company doesn't value others, nor their business reputation. According to others this seems to be about right for this business. -
Birchcrest and the garden work they do is phenomenal! Nathan and each crew that follows up to work are professional and experienced in getting the job done and listening to their customers. The crews work well together and enjoy what they do. It shows in the finished product.

We recently had a three-story high pine tree removed from the back corner of our property By Birchcrest landscaping and removal tree removal. Everyone was very professional and thorough in removing the tree with no damage to our property. Pricing was very reasonable, highly recommend them to anyone looking to have a tree removed or trimmed. In fact, we are actually using them again to have another one of our trees on our property trimmed later this month

We had a large maple tree at the back of our property that had sudden deterioration last year. Large limbs were breaking off and falling into into the neighbor's yard. No other arborist would touch the tree due to its close proximity to nearby main power lines. RGE had Birchcrest remove limbs directly over the power lines. We contracted with them to have the rest of the tree taken down. Both experiences were exceptional. Teams were polite, efficient and were receptive to my input. Communication was excellent. From start to finish Birchcrest was a pleasure to work with. They also trimmed our black walnut and it looks terrific. A special thanks to Amy in customer service for making things easy for this nervous Nelly.
Thanks again for a great experience. -
Very reliable company! They did an amazing job trimming the trees in my yard. The crew was friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. Best choice for tree trimming and maintenance services.

After a recent storm in Fairport, we had a large tree limb come down on our property and called Cooney's Tree Surgeons for help. They were out the very next day to take a look and provided what I felt was a very fair quote for the work. By the end of the day, the job was completed professionally and efficiently. They took great care of the property, cleaned everything up thoroughly, and even blew off the yard before leaving. It’s hard to find contractors who are this responsive, respectful, and detail oriented. Highly recommend Cooney’s Tree Surgeons to anyone in the Fairport area needing tree work done.

I recently had a large tree removed from my property in Penfield and had a great experience with Cooney’s Tree Surgeons. The crew showed up on time, worked efficiently, and handled the entire job professionally from start to finish. The tree was close to part of the house and some landscaping, so I appreciated how careful they were throughout the removal process. Once everything was finished, they cleaned the yard up completely and left the property looking great. Very happy with the work and would definitely recommend Cooney’s Tree Surgeons to anyone needing tree work done.

I called on Friday, May 30 and someone( I think he was the owner) came over within an hour which was nice. I try to use local businesses and he is Irondequoit and my neighborhood. We went over what I needed done and he said he would call Monday the 2nd to make an appt. for Weds. Both days went by with no call and I was disappointed so my first impression of the company was very wrong. This is not the way to run a company! I guess it is never too late to learn not to trust a company and will not recommend this company to anyone who asks my suggestion. People do tend to give opinions and I will certainly give mine.
