I needed backflow testing of our irrigation system done in order to avoid being fined by the City of Durham. Mr. Shelton had the soonest availability and took the time to educate me during the appointment. Great experience and service overall!

$950 for 10 minutes of snaking my toilet. I am kind of a naive first homeowner and called any plumbing company that was open on Saturday. Unfortunately I landed on this one. The tech who showed up was unfriendly, did not like any questions or honestly to hear me speak, told me on the phone it would be 450-1250 and 450 if all they had to do was snake the toilet. Which they did. Yet they charged me $950. Did not give me 10% new client discount. AND told me the $950 was with no “emergency fee” which they never mentioned on the phone. Beyond that I received ZERO receipt or invoice with the work done and the only method of payment was Venmo. Take heed of the 1 star reviews on Yelp. Google is notorious for removing bad reviews.

I recently had Shelton come out to look at a couple of toilets in my home that were not working properly. My pregnant wife walked the technician through the house alone and he charged her $140 an hour for an appointment scheduled over a week ahead of time. This was seen in the final bill and not pre discussed prior to work start. Very irate that without me being home my wife was taken advantage of by this company.

I was charged $150 for the service, which was described as an “investigation” of the problem. The issue, however, turned out to be extremely simple - for example a toilet refill line wasn’t in the overfill tube and takes 2 seconds to adjust. Unfortunately, Shelton did not identify or resolve it during his visit, despite the fact that it was a very basic adjustment.

While I understand that service calls come with fees and that professionals deserve to be compensated for their time, I left this experience feeling disappointed. For the price charged, I would have expected not only an accurate diagnosis, but also the correction of such a simple issue. Instead, I was billed with the core issues not fixed at all for the toilets and a 140 an hour charge to do a basic PRV replacement under the house.

Very disappointed and would not recommend.

I hired Mr. Shelton for a clogged floor drain in the basement of my 1958 house. A previous plumber told me he was unable to clear it and would probably have to bust open the concrete floor to replace the plumbing. Mr. Shelton cleared it in about 15 minutes, no problem! He also fixed the plumbing under the kitchen sink so that the dishwasher would drain properly. He was friendly, professional and punctual. Highly recommended!

I wouldn't recommend Shelton Plumbing Company. I was charged $375 for a hot water heater to be removed and $150 for a shut off valve to be installed. I feel like the prices were fair, if he had done the job properly without leaving me with a leaking hot water line that he rigged and didn't cap off. He said it was our fault because we turned on the hot water line, which we never told him we did. He doesn't take accountability for his poor workmanship. The water hose he brought to drain my hot water heater had a hole in it. He also got and attitude when I asked if he had shoe covers to wear in the house so he wouldn't get red clay soil on the carpet. He got water all over my bathroom floor when he began draining the hot water heater and used one of my personal towels without permission to get it up. He didn't get all the water up, so before he left I asked him if he was going to clean it up. He said that wasn't part of the job. (He made the mess) He got an attitude and said whatever makes you happy. Very unprofessional. Will not be using this companies services again and I would never recommend. In response to your response to my review. It was my understanding that the person who came out was the owner of the business. It's bizarre to me that you're trying to blame someone else for your unprofessionalism. But I shouldn't be surprised, since you blamed us for the leak after what you did failed. No protective covering was ever put on the floor (you put a piece of old cardboard under the hot water heater and drug it out) and I had to ask you to remove your shoes, because you were going to walk on my bedroom carpet with dirty water on your shoes and you got an attitude when I asked. And when you got the hot water heater to my back door, you let it fall onto my steps and into the yard.

The two lines you hooked together leaked onto the floor below. You came back out, but didn't fix the leak and after that you wouldn't answer or return any of my calls. Therefore, I had to hire another company to take care of the mess. The technician from Big Dawgs cut the lines and installed plugs and I haven't had a water leak since. It only took him 5 minutes.

I never asked you to fix any damage from prior water damage. I just didn't expect you to get water all over my bathroom floor and and smear it and leave it that way. The towel you grabbed was not used to clean any water up before you arrived. It was on my bathroom counter and before you grabbed it, you said, "I know you're not going to like this, but I've got to use this to get the water up." Even though you said it was common to get some water on the floor removing a hot water heater, you didn't come prepared for it.

Mr. Shelton is absolutely fantastic! He answered my urgent call for help with a broken sink faucet. He came in under an hour and fixed the problem immediately without issue. He was also incredibly kind and caring. I truly enjoyed working with him. He is now our go-to-plumber. Thanks again, Mr. Shelton!
