We had a great technician sent out to diagnose the issue why our AC wasn't working. He was extremely patient, understanding. Intelligent, reasonable, explained me the process and steps he was taking and why so while troubleshooting and diagnosis. The prices run on the higher spectrum. These guys were the original installers for the system 10 yrs ago. System lifespan is about 15 to 20 yrs for using AC for only a fraction of the year in Pacific North West region such as Portland / Hillsboro Oregon area. I'm looking forward to work with them if possible to get a new system since a major leak was suspected.
I'm sure you'll find this company reasonable to initiate a conversation to see it they are a good choice!

I highly recommend Specialty Heating and Cooling. The did a very clean professional installation of our Carrier furnace and AC and their maintenance service is very affordable and keeps the system clean, well tuned and running smoothly.

Veronica did a rock star job when she came out to replace my proprietary Carrier Infinity thermostat with a modern Ecobee. The Carrier Infinity thermostats are very far behind the capabilities of the modern Nest or Ecobee tstats when it comes to remote access, home/away sensing, and general ease of use. Huge thanks to Veronica for rewiring my HVAC unit to accept a standard tstat and making everything work perfectly.

We’re a long-time customer starting with an initial installation of a heat pump system in 2009. We used them for a heat pump replacement in early 2025. Their work is excellent, and they take the time to communicate with the customer. We use them for our regular system maintenance. We’ve not had many system problems, but Specialty has been very responsive for emergency needs. A top rating from us for this company.

I was extremely pleased with the general servicing of my heat system & repair of my air conditioning system. The tech & manager communication was extremely good. The tech explained what was found, cause, & what would required for repair of system. Since I was ex mechanic I like to know of any problems & what it will take to repair including cost. Their patience & communication helped me understand & Feel confident in them & their work.

Jake was super helpful. He explained what he was doing and why, helped answer questions I had, and is just generally a nice person. I do wish Specialty would throw in a new air filter at cost, or at least hook me up with a box of the right kind at a decent price.

Specialty Heating came out on time! We received a call from Veronica stating she will be at the house at 8:00 am. Right at 8 she was here. She took the time to explain what she going to do. Midway through the inspection Veronica gave me an update. She was very nice, professional and knowledgeable. Great job by Veronica!

The technician was very informative, thorough with the system check/maintenance, and professional. We've used SHC for many years and always have been very pleased. Highly recommended.

Service person came and did a thorough investigation on our 13-14 year old furnace. Found that we didn’t need to replace one of the parts, which saved us a lot of money. (This part couldn’t be tested without installing the other first.)

I've used Specialty Heating & Cooling several times for my gas furnace upkeep and last year had them out to replace my aging A/C unit with a Heat Pump. They've been consistently prompt in returning my calls and keeping their appointment times, and their work has held up very well. I'd highly recommend them for work around the Tigard area.

Skylar did a fantastic job cleaning our ducts. The before and after photos were incredible. The amount of dust and debris he cleared was amazing. He was fast, efficient, cleaned up behind his work, extremely polite and professional. He was easy to communicate with and answered all our questions. I am not sure why issues with home systems always seem to happen on weekends or long holidays—but that’s usually when something stops working.

At the same time, we are all talking about rising costs and how we’re paying more than twice what we used to just a couple of years ago. Companies like Specialty Heating & Cooling are contributing to this problem with pricing practices that, in my view, take advantage of customers.

Last week, I noticed an unusual noise coming from our furnace. I had a good idea of what it might be, as I dealt with the same issue when we lived in a different home. I called Specialty Heating & Cooling and scheduled an appointment.

The technician arrived on time, and within five minutes the diagnostics confirmed exactly what I suspected. That’s when I was told there was a $189 diagnostic fee—something no one had mentioned when I scheduled the visit. I paid it, but I made it clear that this had not been disclosed.

The technician said he would call after the Thanksgiving weekend with a repair estimate. On Monday, he contacted me and asked for my email. When I requested the total cost of the repair, the quote was $1,186.43.

I asked for an explanation of how they justified charging nearly $1,200 for the same OEM part, made by FESCO, with one full year of warranty, that retails for about $142, installs with three screws, and takes less than 30 minutes to replace. Unfortunately, no clear explanation was provided.

If their quote had been anywhere near reasonable—say, up to $500—I would have approved the repair immediately.

However, at this price, I strongly suggest exploring alternatives before calling Specialty Heating & Cooling, unless you’re comfortable paying far more than what the job is worth.

The heat is working and Ryan always gives a great overview of my particular system and the strengths and weaknesses associated with it. I appreciate that he mentioned that despite my unit being about 11 years old, it should have a long lifespan.
