He patiently answered our questions and, showed us exactly what was done when the job was completed. I rarely write a review and I take any recommendation that I make, very seriously.

We recently moved to East Greenwich RI from Massachusetts. Within a few weeks of moving in, we experienced several plumbing issues that needed to be addressed right away. Specifically, the master bath shower diverter stopped working, the garbage disposal needed to be replaced, the dishwasher needed to be replaced and the tank-less hot water heater was clogged and stopped working. We asked our real estate attorney for a recommendation, and he suggested Phillips Plumbing and Mechanical.

I called the company and the dispatcher made certain that she clearly understood our issues. She dispatched a highly skilled plumber who was able to fix (that same day) every issue outlined above. Before starting the work, the plumber told me exactly what needed to be done to ensure that the problems were fixed "long term" (not just for a while) and how much it would cost.

After completion, the plumber walked me through each issue and showed me what he did and why he did it. I was completely satisfied that I was dealing with a real professional.

Long story short, I'm writing this review and for any plumbing or mechanical work (including HVAC), no other company is permitted to do work on our home.

We had a major leak with our water heater, I called Phillips and they were able to have a technician at our home in less than 2 hours. Kevin did an excellent job installing the new water heater, explaining the work, costs of the job and the warranty included. I HIGHLY recommend Phillips for any plumbing services, what a great local family owned company here in Rhode Island.

Have used Phillips Plumbing for 9 years now for primary residence and rental property. They have done everything from change out an entire heating system, install and maintain split systems, replace water heaters, fix water main leak, change out mixing valves. Amazing response time. Quality work. In particular Serge is extremely polite and competent. Office staff always delivers.

John Phillips and his team have been taking care of my family and businesses for years. I love how much they care about the customer experience. They are easily accessible, and they have saved me on weekends and in the middle of the night when a tenant is having an issue. Whether it's a new install or a service call, I know when I call them, I will get a local person who answers the phone and will help me with whatever is needed. It's a lost art these days but not only are they extremely knowledgeable, but they are good people. The employees and technicians have all been trained very well. Thank you Phillips Plumbing...I appreciate all you continue to do for us. You are the best at what you do and a positive force in our community!

I had Phillips remove an old oil boiler and install a new gas boiler through the RISE energy efficiency incentive program. From start to finish working with Phillips was one of the best contractor experiences I've had. I received a competitive quote AT the job evaluation; the office was easy to get ahold of, and guided me through the entire RISE paperwork process; and the install team was professional, courteous, clean and fast. The final install is really neat and tidy. These guys are truly above and beyond.

We had a new Viessmann boiler installed by Phillips Mechanical last summer. They provided a quality installation. The installers were friendly and professional. I would highly recommend.

Update: John Phillips called me personally and ensured this was corrected. I agreed to a $399 maintenance while the additional draw offs and isolation valve were installed at no cost. The maintenance was performed. I'm a little disappointed that a heat exchanger descaling isn't included in what is a combustion chamber and heat exchanger cleaning service, but an additional charge. With the correct ports and isolation valve, that's a reasonably DIY friendly task, but most would probably expect it be built into the maintenance service.

Prior:

The boiler in my photo was installed by Phillips for $6500. It’s missing an isolation valve to the left of the HWBB output so it’s actually impossible to do an annual maintenance on it. After months of trying to talk to a tech at Phillips, one emailed me and told me that I could pay Phillips to do the maintenance, but that they would CHARGE ME TO INSTALL THE VALVE AND CORRECT THEIR OWN INSTALL. Never again. I’ll update this review if Phillips responds, and makes it right at no additional cost for our absurdly expensive boiler.

They are very flexible and responsive. Their dispatchers are polite, thoughtful, and focused on getting you the help you need. Their staff is honest and communicative. I needed help not just fixing something but understanding how my system worked. They provided the repair and made sure my questions were answered.

I recently purchased a new home, and during the inspection discovered that much of the plumbing in the house needed to be replaced. From the office administration, to the service tech (Chris, thanks again!), to the management team, the folks at Phillips Plumbing have been incredibly helpful. This job turned out to be bigger and more complicated than was expected. Such a scenario could have turned into a nightmare experience for a new homeowner, but the generosity and hard work of Philipps Plumbing made for an outstanding outcome given the circumstances. Great communication/updates, transparency, and a commitment to put the customer first made all of the difference. Thanks again to the entire team for their efforts! Highly recommend.

Phillips Plumbing & Mechanical was called to do work on my condo (replace a corroded section of heating pipe). Due to their inexperience and lack of basic plumbing knowledge, they neglected to bleed the system properly after replacing the pipe. They introduced air into the system. They were called back twice because the heating system no longer worked after not being properly bled. They billed the condo board $2500 (for work on my condo and work done on common areas!) and boldly stated on the bill that they could not fix the heating issue because they could not find the source of the problem. Subsequently, I now have a Lien on my condo because the NVC board is placing responsibility for this situation on me. This bill is over $3,100 now with legal fees and interest and keeps rising.
Update: I contacted Philips as they requested via email, but have had no response whatsoever.
Update: I contacted Phillips again. Even though Phillips stated in their reply that they would like to "review the details of your account so we can look into this matter further and work toward a resolution", on Jan 8, 2026, Kimberly Gonzalez, Operations Manager, Phillips Plumbing and Mechanical Inc. (now owned by Santoro Oil apparently) replied saying that Phillips "cannot speak to any billing, reimbursement efforts, or lien actions..." "If you have questions about charges, reimbursements, or liens, we recommend contacting Narragansett Village directly, as they were our client on this project" Phillips completely rejected my request for assistance even though they performed subpar work on my condo (and that is being very generous) and then billed NVC for thousands. Unfortunately I will be forced to take legal action because both Phillips and the NVC board are unwilling to have a reasonable, unbiased, objective, discussion of the facts.

I can't say enough about these guys, but I'll do my best. I called on a Thursday afternoon about a water heater leak, knowing that it's always a full replacement with those. Less than 24 hours later, the job was complete, they got here on Friday morning and were done by noon. Kevin was personable, explained everything in detail, and gave us his best advice on how to move forward. We settled on a new water heater around 9am and he ordered the part, picked it up, removed the old one, and installed the new one. You can't overlook that type of fast and reliable service. With a 100 year old house, we're so lucky to have a company like Phillips so close. It's been a year of clogged drains, leaky boilers, to name a few. The pricing is up front, fair, and always worth the work they do. We never have to wait long to get someone out here. Thanks to Kevin and the entire team over at Phillips.
